I’ve been seeing all over the forums the same few things. On a few occasions, I have agreed with them but around 90% of it is just plain stupid. If you’ve been lucky enough to have avoided the topics in question, here’s a few examples:
“HALO IS DEAD” -If that was the case, nobody would be here to see this, and you wouldn’t have to log onto a website and post a statement saying it is. Which, really, wont make people come along and think “Well, I guess it’s time to stop playing the game!”.
“REQS SHOULD BE DESTROYED” -While I agree that the REQ system is not exactly great, I don’t feel that should be removed. It should, in my opinion, be reworked. (More on this later)
“PAY TO WIN” -They aren’t really forcing it are they? It’s either pay a fee for a chance at getting something you want or is good or spend almost twice as much and get a bunch of 1 specified thing which you still leave to chance to get more of. You don’t even need to pay for anything. Everything in the game can be unlocked via playing the game. Shocker, I know.
“SPRINT RUINED HALO” -I dont have words to describe how stupid this sounds. But hey, you are entitled to an opinion. Just do me a favour and dont just say “I dont like it” or “you know why”.
Now, this is obviously negative things about the game, this is not really a bad thing. It gives the devs (in this case 343i) an idea of what people think of their game and their decisions. But more often than not the negative “feedback”, shall we say, is not very useful to anyone and is really just a claim. And by the lack of any real constructive and proper explaination as to why this is the case, it is very likely a rage-induced one.
So today, ladies and gentlemen, I will give you a basic guideline for how to give Constructive Feedback.
1. Make the arguement clear. Explain what the problem is.
A lot of people do this already, if you didn’t it wouldn’t really be feedback, rather an enigma for all of the people browsing the forums to decipher. Dont make it anything along the lines of “SPRINT RUINED HALO” or “HALO IS DEAD” as nobody is going to take you seriously.
2. Explain why this is a problem. Give us the good and the bad.
So, you’ve made your point clear. Great. Now you need to explain why this is the case. So if you were making a complaint about the REQ system, for example, you could put something like:
“The REQ system takes a lot of the personality and character of the armour sets away. They feel like they have no meaning. When you go up against a player wearing Venerator in Halo 4, you know to keep them within your vision. The armour is designed for and is rewarded to players with skill in getting assassinations. The Mark VI armour and Legand visor was the same. When you saw them you thought to yourself “Man, he beat the campaign on legendary. He must be pretty good at the game!”. To some extent Halo 5 had this, Helioskrill was rewarded to players who had played and beat all of the games in the Master Chief Collection (except Halo 3: ODST) and gave those who wore it a somewhat legendary status. The removal of unlocking armour and customisation via achievements and commendations also removed the feeling of reward from earning the armours. Very much so on the ones classed as “Legenday”. It felt like they had been rewarded for playtime and not so much in their ability in certain aspects of combat.”
3. Suggest a solution to the problem. And try not to make removing it the first suggestion.
You have people’s attention at this point. And if an admin of the forums or even an employee of 343i were to stumble across this it will have a much greater impact and stay with them. Now you can take advantage of this and prove that it is a problem while at the same time you can help solve it. Suggest a solution.
"A way to perhaps fix this issue is to replace the Gold, Silver, Bronze system with one that combines what made collecting armours both fun and rewarding and the current one to let players who arent as good at all areas of the game have a chance of still being able to get that sweet helmet they’ve had their eyes on. Players should be able to get permanent unlocks such as armour and weapon skins by completing a set of tasks that reflects the nature or history of that item. Such as rewarding Recon and Scout armour to players with skill in sniping, headshots or light vehicle prowess and Ricochet armour to those who are good at ball-based gamemodes such as the one that is it’s namesake, Ricochet. Players who arent that great in these areas will be inclined to either try to improve these skills or open up a permanent unlock pack for around 20,000 REQ points per pack. For weapon certifications players should unlock them by proving themselves to be able to effectively use them. For example players who are good at using the Rocket Launcher are rewarded with the certification for it. Continuing to show this skill should reward them with the certifications for it’s heigher-tier counterparts such as Ad Victorium. This idea of unlocking other versions of a certain item can also be applied to armour. Players should only be able to obtain skins for their armour by continuing to meet the achievement requirements. This should also apply to the REQ pack for unlocking permanent items. You aren’t going to get Spnkr Prime or Vigilant Watcher if you dont have the Spnkr or Vigilant beforehand. The idea of being able to randomly obtain weapons out of tiered packs and get them more frequently based on what certifications you have should stay. But mark these are resupply packs rather than just Gold, Silver, Bronze. These perhaps could be broken down further into different types of weapon or vehichle (ground, air, sniper, melee) but not have a tier system. So a player can think to themselves “I’m running low on air support vehicles, I should get a refill.” and not “I’m low on Banshees. Just gotta hope I get some out of some Silver packs…”.
And there you go, Constructive Feedback. Please, take this into mind before you go on your latest rant about why the Hornet is better than the Wasp (other than the fact that a Hornet is the natural predator of the Wasp) and actually try to make a difference.
How about you give it a whirl in the comments? I’d like to know what you think about my post and how I could improve it!
