According to what i read in the bulletin, 343 is adding a sense of realism to how the Chief really weights and feels with his 800 pound armor.
Quote "A Spartan tossing his chest plate should feel like an anvil dropping…. "
343 Please don’t tell me they are slowing down the player even MORE! We’ve had enough of the slowing down process since halo 3 come out.
I’m thinking it’s more along the lines of when something falls: let’s say hypothetically it’s a crate, a crate being a heavy object will cause the controller to vibrate a little bit when it lands from falling (as opposed to landing from not falling???). I think that when you jump, you will feel vibrations when you hit the ground, as well as other players or objects near enough to you. It doesn’t seem like it’d be hard to implement.
I actually quoted this in another thread earlier today, i was half asleep so i panicked since it had the word Reach in the quote i copy/pasted >.>
Anyhoo since im much more awake now (as far as i know!) i thought about this a little more, basically here’s my take on it, but dont assume this as fact, it is simply my opinion!
The way i see it, the Tank part i would see that as describing the MC as strong and unstoppable (LIKE A BAWS!) yet the Jet Fighter, when you think about it, they are fast and agile.
But at the end of the day i want faster base speed’s, ill cry if we get slowed down, this is the MC for god’s sake!
With 800 pounds he won’t be available to Sprint that’s mean no Sprint in Halo 4 YES
Or, perhaps, sound is being more heavily emphasized. In all other games, you’re in a big friggin suit. You jump, even on solid concrete, and what do you hear? Certainly not the sound of a big heavy spartan hitting the ground. That wouldn’t hold true for some of the other things mentioned, but for your particular quote it might.
> With 800 pounds he won’t be available to Sprint that’s mean no Sprint in Halo 4 YES
Whoa, what? You seem to forget that the suit is an exoskeleton. It is designed to IMPROVE strength, speed, agility, and reflexes. I’m not in favor of sprint, but that doesn’t mean because he weighs 800 pounds he can’t sprint.
I am totally up for sounds and controller vibration just to give a sense of a heavy feel as long as it’s not something that’ll effect the multiplayer experience and slow down the gameplay.
> With 800 pounds he won’t be available to Sprint that’s mean no Sprint in Halo 4 YES

Honestly faster base speed and no strafe acceleration would make Sprint pointless. Adding sprint is a surefire cause of lowering the movement speed, i do not want sprint, as far as i am concerned sprint is a crutch, a quick tap of a button to escape a certain death rather than relying on your own skill is just silly!
KEEP HALO 4 CRUTCH-FREE! ALSO PLEASE DONT BREAK MY HEART 343i
Personally, I think they’re going overboard. I don’t care how heavy the MJOLNIR armour is; there is no way a single piece of it has a weight comparable to that of an anvil.

Amen to that!
All I want is a faster base speed and acceleration, and a tiny boost for the jump high and player gravity, if they do that i’ll be a much happier person.
as long as it’s not too slow, and the jump is NOT a little hop like in cod i’m happy

They’er just trying to get across the idea that the Chief will feel like a Spartan. He’ll be light and nimble:
> A Spartan sprinting across concrete should be a stealthy whisper
On the flip side, Mjolnir armor should feel like armor, and when the Chief’s not wearing it, it should reflect the fact that it’s 1/2 ton armor.

But there wouldn’t be an instance where he wouldn’t wear it, would there?

Who knows? He’s got to get new armor somehow, right? It’s also possible this is some major teaser for what may happen in the campaign or multiplayer features, but that may be going to far.
My point is, in the end, it’s just the artist saying stuff to try and express his idea without giving out major details.
Does it seem odd to anyone else that while the militaries of any other science-fiction property are intent upon creating lighter and lighter synthetic materials, the UNSC (or, rather, 343 Industries) are attempting to make their armour heavier? As an advanced super-soldier of the 26th century, the Master Chief should be wearing some sort of ultra-light nanofibre whose projectile-stopping power is proportional to that of a thick, steel plate–not the steel plate itself.

Getting outfitted for Mjolnir Mark VII.
What I want to know is, what is the meaning behind this quote "A Spartan tossing his chest plate should feel like an anvil dropping…. "
I understand what he’s getting at, but it seems like he’s actually referencing something he or someone else has designed.
Now, what im getting from this is that at some point in the game there will be a moment where a spartan is stripped of their armour and we watch it drop to the ground.
Now for speculation, there are several ways I think this can happen:
- Master Chief is stripped of his mark VI and it is discarded(?) to make way for mark VII ala the beginning to Halo 2 (Most likely by the infinity’s crew)
- Master Chief has his armour modified (forerunner tech?) and excess parts are discarded (Possibly by an engineer?)
- Other Spartans are introduced (Fred, Kelly, Naomi?) and their armour is changed/modified (see 1 and 2)
- 343 does something stupid and has Master Chief remove his armour and we see his face (not likely)
Im sure you can find some other possible instances
> What I want to know is, what is the meaning behind this quote "A Spartan tossing his chest plate should feel like an anvil dropping…. "
Clearly, the only way to defeat the Timeless One is through a game of strip poker.

Well, that’s just terrifying. No wonder the Forerunners lost.
> With 800 pounds he won’t be available to Sprint that’s mean no Sprint in Halo 4 YES
Nope.avi
Mjolnir suits are self-powered, they are designed to increase sprinting ability, not reduce it. Look at how fast Kelly was when she got her suit, her top speed increased.
Edit: -Yoink!---Yoink!- is blocked? 343, that word may be an insult in the hands if certain immature people, but it’s primarily a very useful and non-offensive word.

Was Reach the only halo game you’ve played? Do you not know that Spartans are basically cyborgs?
They are adding more realistic physics to the game, and physics =/= movement speed.
From what I can think of, they are making it so that you FEEL like a Spartan wearing 800 pounds of armour, and not feel like a floating gun. Reach had a “sort of” right way of doing it, minus the snail-mail movement speed.
P.S. question was hypothetical, don’t answer it)
