A halo RPG shooter?

Well, would ya?

I think that would rock.

I’d love a Halo RPG. I would love to play as a Kig-Yar pirate, smuggling stolen Forerunner tech or something. Imagine being able to travel to and roam around all these cool locations like High Charity, the inside of ships, various Forerunner installations, Human colonies and Covenant worlds. 343 plz

Since a true RPG would break canon due to multiple outcomes and dependent scenarios, if there ever was a Halo RPG, which I would love one to come into the world, it would have to be the last game and the last piece of Halo media so that we as the players decide on how we want the Halo universe to end. Of course, in this case, it would be released in the next thirty years more or less, since that’s how long Microsoft and 343i wants the Halo franchise to last.

Or at the very least, seven to ten years. I’m gonna go to college, get a degree in programming and pitch this idea to 343. I have been brainstorming the idea that might seal my future as a video game programmer. A lot of these ideas are going to have fans come to my house and impale my balls on a spit. Since it would be an RPG shooter in the vein of Destiny, Fallout, Borderlands, Deus Ex: HR (I could go on but i’m only making good examples) Games that combine both blood pumping combat and roleplay. The first idea i will be hated for is full on “hold trigger” ADS BUT Have the option for a classic toggle zoom, Halo 5 style. The second is customizeable weapons Fallout 4 style. I see this as a good thing because the feeling of creating your favorite weapon and treating it like your baby is just plain awesome. Also, a skill system for your Spartan/ODST/Marine/Elite/Jackal/Grunt(yep)

I think something in the vein of the Mass Effect series would work well, as opposed to something like one of the Bethesda titles (Fallout, Elder Scrolls)

Of course, who says ut needs to be anything that is another ‘fate of the universe’ scenario? A focus on the power struggles of the various Covenant Remnant factions and human Insurrectionists would be a perfect fit for the Mass Effect style, as well as an ability to flesh out multiple existing factions like the Keepers and Abiding Truth.

So i was tinking abouty how you could get around the multiple choice senario and rampant Cortana sprung to mind.

Imagine you play as Cortana on some kind of adventure in her own mind, every time you has to make a choice, that is her splitting herself in two.
So by then end of the game, what ever outcome you end up with, they all technicaly exist as a rampent fragment of Cortana, each one representing all the individual paths you could have taken, before merging back together to form her whole self.
Would that work?

Most RPG’s will have one ending that is actually canon.

I would relish a Deus Ex style (gameplay as well as all the intrigue - leads itself to an ONI/Innie game very well) or Mass Effect style (the exploration style and sci-fi geeky wonder of the first game would be an awesome way to learn about the universe).

It would be great so long as 343 don’t do it themselves and HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED is nowhere near it.

Who, Tom Reedle? HAHA!

Yeah, I always thought the Mass Effect’s exploration aspect would be great for Halo.

If it can be done in a Fallout 4 free roam way, then absolutely yes!! None of this sandbox missions…I think that’s what has been hurting this game is that everything is so linear in which way you could go, unlike Halo: CE which had that aspect to it, the follow-up games seem to lose that.

How about a campaign starring the cast of RVB? All they did in the first few seasons was stand around and talk. I can see it now. Exploring a new version of blood gulch, talking with our favorite personalities and exploring even outside the canyon.

There’s no law that RPGs have to include multiple endings… Saying that it can’t be an RPG unless it’s literally the last Halo story content which has us picking an end for the series is a pretty ridiculous statement.

RPGs with story decisions like that are in the minority (though they seem to be getting more popular); most simply have you leveling up a character (or team of characters) while you progress through the linear story, upgrading things like equipment or skill points as you go.

“RPG” doesn’t mean “choose-your-own-adventure” (not that the two can’t get along very well). The roleplay and the choices you make can come from how you build your character and how you play around that build.

Anyway, all that being said, I would love an RPG-shooter set in the Halo universe, especially if it was something along the same lines as Deus Ex.

While I understand what you trying to say, and I am aware of linear RPG’s, I was just implying that I would love to see the Halo Franchise end as a multiple outcome RPG, and would also welcome linear RPG’s into the mix. Also, IMO a “true” RPG is one that lets you the player decide multiple scenarios, as they are more realistic and dynamic than linear RPG’s, but both are fun to play. I apologize for any confusion though.

There isn’t such thing as a true RPG though. Brand is right. And we can’t really say a RPG is impossible because of many choices if we want the RPGs with many choices. Personally, a Mass Effect-like RPG with a single storyline would be the best for Halo, as well as a Fleet Battles-like console game.

A rpg based on the life of an O.N.I agent finding secrets of the organization he trusted or one of a Rebel Front operator turned UNSC trooper would be interesting.
