Long time Halo fan. It’s been a tradition of mine to replay all previous campaigns the day before release of a new Halo, ever since Halo 2. Periodically I’ll replay all campaigns just for the joy of it. I recently did this again. I always feel the same feelings I had during each campaign when I first played them. I remember the anticipation of Halo 3s legendary ending. I remember how great Halo 4s story was, my goodness such great character development and a fantastic story! And such a heart breaking ending. I didn’t even play Halo 5s campaign. I just couldn’t, knowing what a mess of a story lies ahead and knowing that everything Halo 4 set up was just completely scrapped and left in the dark. It really sucks that Halo 5 ended up being what it is, with so much promising advertising. My favorite franchise let me down. I can only hope Halo 6 can be good enough to help forget the tragedy that is Halo 5s story.
How can you pass judgement on the story if you haven’t even played it? I didn’t think it was great the first time around, but after playing through it a second time it was pretty alright, I liked it for what it was.
It was better than Reach’s campaign at least.
What I didn’t enjoy of Halo 5 was the lack of references to any other of the previous halo games and only one reference to the Didact of the Mantke but that’s it. Also in Halo 4 no reference to Guilty Spark, Halo Array, Johnson
or flood.
OP you can always give H5 a go. Complete it then move on. It’s just a blunder. With the newly introduced Banished into the series, H6 is bound to be great.
Didn’t play it but wants to judge it. That is what is wrong with so many today. Also the H4 stuff wasn’t left in the dark per say it just all concluded in media out of the game. H5 campaign isn’t that bad. The story isn’t that bad either. Pay attention to what they are saying to each other and what is happening in the cut scenes and it’s alright. Sure they are trying to take Halo in a new direction and no not everyone will like it but have to do something besides Covies want to light ring and Master Chief blows up said ring.
Get into the outside media of the game. Part of what makes Halo so great is that it’s more than a game. Books, comics, movies, stuff on the Halo channel, all help make up the universe.

I have a pile of 20 Halo books all screaming to read me. The outside lore is much more interesting and explains a lot more than the base line games. Oh and the comics are so nice to gaze upon.
Ok so I guess I didn’t make myself clear. I have played Halo 5s campaign. Many times. Check my stats, I’ve beat it in legendary. I was meaning that this particular time I couldn’t bring myself to play it. Sorry for the confusion
New directions for a story are fine, but does 343 even know what direction they want to go on? And should the direction change immeaditely after the previous game thus dropping all other plot threads in favor of a boring machines vs organics arc that 343 themselves have shown almost no interest in exploring even in the outside lore? For something not so bad, 343 sure haven’t advanced it and actually make something of it.

I think this is what threw most people:-
> I didn’t even play Halo 5s campaign.
I agree I have finished the game from head to toe and I am not willing to go back to it. It’s not the same as lets say Halo 2 or Halo 3. Playing it feels like a chore.

Exactly! The prometheans are just bullet sponges and there’s not really any high intensity moments like Halo 3s double scarab fight or CE’s final warthog run

The fact you have to fight warden 7 times throughout the game shows the lack of creativity. They could have changed his attacks as the game progressed. Making it more fun to fight. Yet every time it’s the same, oh and the AI aren’t that useful, always getting killed and never reviving you. Playing with other people is so much better.
With the other Halo games there were boss fights. I have to admit they too were pretty bland, however they were different which makes them stand out, adding to my enjoyment.

What’s wrong with reach? Nice long levels, changes in time and atmosphere. Reach had a great campaign, just wish the characters were fleshed out more same thing can be said with Halo 5 characters.
I rarely replay entire campaigns. I usually only play my favorite missions. Swords of Sanghelios and Blue Team are great missions I have went back to from time to time.
I completely agree. I completed the game and I don’t ever want to play it again. There is nothing fun about it, the AI suck, the Prometheans are just boring bullet sponges now and take up most of the game, and the plot is all over the place(and non-existent) and completely disregarded Halo 4, Spartan Ops, and Escalation. I won’t even beat the dead horse that is the false advertising campaign and lies they pulled… which unfortunately had a better story than the game too.
With Halo 6 not being shown at this year’s E3 I’m gonna assume that means it’s being delayed since every mainline Halo has 2 E3s. If this is the case, maybe they’ll take that time to make sure the story is top notch.

Waaaaiiiiiit wait wait wait… looks back at post you actually said that. facepalms
See, for me Reach was one of the more enjoyable campaigns… it sucked balls that the Player Character died in the end, but it was fun all the same. However, I DO agree with the sentiment that one should play something BEFORE passing judgement.
PS- Thank you to OP for clarifying that you had played the H5 Campaign BEFORE passing judgement on it.

I wasn’t saying anything was wrong, it just seemed implied that they thought reach’s campaign wasn’t great. That’s why I wrote it like that.

Oh I get you. I just went the other side of the fence.
