This is not a post bashing halo 5’s visuals, i’m in fact praising how good it looks in its unfinished stage.
EDIT: I should state that the following mainly talks about the in game stuff. As I easily imagine the pre-rendered stuff will be on par if not way better than H4’s
Looking back at halo 4 on the xbox 360 it’s astonishing to think that they managed to put out a game of that graphical quality (regardless of you enjoying the game or not)
Halo 5’s campaign screenshots to me do not seem much different from Halo 4 on TMCC at 1080p (and thats a good thing) Halo 4 was an astonishing looking game and while i agree with points of the argument stating that “this is next gen it should look 10x better” there is only so much you can do. Considering the fact that 343 have their chosen art style in halo 4 it would only alienate those even more to have it vastly improved over halo 4’s look and potentially changed even further than what fans are used to from bungies design. The fact that it is so similar to Halo 4 and looking as good as it does running at a lower resolution (assuming they will manage 1080p, if not 900p) makes me feel happy that it wont be so jarring jumping visually again.
My main concerns so far is the anti aliasing, if the AA is as solid as the campaign screenshots then I have no quarrels with Halo 5’s visuals, the beta ran smooth for me and albeit at 720p it still looked great it was just a matter of AA that could of cleared up some of the clutter. The lighting that 343 utilise works in such a way that 1080p (while i’m not saying it isn’t wanted) may not even be needed for a solid experience as the gameplay already (for me at least) is super solid and fun.
I play PC games a lot on ultra and the only time i found myself annoyed was either with tesselation or AA. I do personally feel like the xbox one should be able to handle halo 5 without to much jaggied experience. And again going back to expecting a super high fidelity upgrade over Halo 4 is crazy to even ask for.
Just my thoughts on the matter, I’m not expecting everyone to agree but this is from a PC gamers standpoint.
I was suprised by how average h5 looks.

I mean, it looks better than it did in the beta, but so far the H2A maps show better lighting and sharper details.
And that Blue Team B-roll? If you told me that was footage from the level Forward Unto Dawn, I’d believe you.

As a Halo game, it looks good. As a first-party exclusive flag ship title on a new console, it looks terrible.
i think halo 5 looks grate
In my humble opinion Halo 4 was not that good looking of a game, it had far to many rough edges for me to just ignore them. Halo 5 however has the same art style, but makes everything look a lot “cleaner”, so I can say this game looks leagues better than 4 did. In the end though it matters more how the game plays rather than how it looks.

Are you kidding me? Halo 5 graphics are a lot better than Halo 4, and by the way, the graphics are the exact same between Halo 4 on Xbox 360, and its MCC port. Output resolution doesn’t make graphics better, lol, it only makes things sharper looking. Halo 5 is way better, a little bit more than Halo 2: Anniversary, which was a lot better than Halo 4!!! Halo 4 MCC port isn’t different than the 360 version, other than 60 fps and image resolution, two things that do not make assets and lighting and textures better looking.
It’s been said plenty on times before, If you care way too much about the game graphics on Xbox One you probably belong on PC. Halo 5 for what the current gen console is able to produce is already pushing the limits of the Xbox One GPU, as some might know 343i have to sacrifice some graphical fidelity for the ideals of a smooth running 60fps title that is designed to please the audience and not make it suffer with poor optimization.

Agreed, Blue B-Roll looks just like the 1st mission of H4. I still think Halo Reach can easily compete with H4 and 5.

There are several games on xb1 that look better than h5.
I know they have talented engineers if they competed with uncharted and killzone last gen and Quantum break looking onpar with UC4 the the Xbox tech is nothing to be ashamed of. So what imthinkingis maybe they can have a spinoff campaign only game like odst 2 and have it slower paced so 60 fps won’t be necessary and it’ll look like something like that halo 3 bubble shield trailer graphically.

I dont think you really understood my point I never said the mcc was better graphically as im basically saying the extra resolution ironed out the jaggies and made it crisp looking.

Indeed I agree if all they wan out of the game is amazing stunning CGI graphics just “because” is silly, It being on par with H4 is fine with me as I was already really pleased with how it looked.

I’m pretty sure this i untrue. This gen is still early. Remeber how bad the first games on the Xbox 360 looked compared to the latest ones such as Destiny and GTA V ? I’m pretty sure an Halo 6 on Xbox One would look better than Halo 5 because the developers do not know how to fully exploit the One’s capabilities yet.
I have a feeling that we’re beginning to approach the point where graphics won’t be able to get any better looking, just the same quality in higher definition.
I think halo 5 is looking great so far. I just want more metallic armor colors. I hated the drab pastel colors that halo 4 had on its armors.
Halo 5 is already leagues ahead of halo 4 both in terms of art style and design and straight up technical graphics. Halo 4 had some ROUGH textures and texture-joints.
My main problems with Halo 5 graphically are the explosions - I trust them to fix that before release, the gameplay we’ve seen is of old builds after all.

Yeah I agree with you both a bit here - there will be improvements they can still make and find, but I think we’re at the point of diminishing returns for sure. The 360 had quirky architecture that devs eventually unlocked the secrets of, Xbox one is much more conventional and the devs already know most of the tips and tricks.
Halo 5 looks great. People will literally complain about anything here.
Looks ok but if it has some decent textures and decent rendering rate so when i look at say a rock it doest look like a blob of colors up close but like a rock im not complaining.
