A good halo read?

So im looking at reading some of the halo novels…where is the best place to start?

“Halo: The Fall of Reach,” it’s the best to start with without a doubt.

Takes place before Halo 1.

It will explain you how where the Spartan-IIs made, including a deep briefing on Master Chief’s story since he was 6 and how he got to be with Cortana.

Then you should continue with the Forerunner trilogy which takes place 100,000 years before Halo 1 (“Cryptum”, “Primordium” and “Silentium”).

OR the Kilo-Five trilogy (only “Glasslands” and “The Thurday War” have been released so far); it takes place after Halo 3 and explains what happens before Halo 4.

Brilliant! Cheers guys ill probably get both!

Fall of Reach. My girlfriend recently got into Halo, but is playing catch up with the games so she has no time for all the books as well.
The one exception being The Fall of Reach, simply because, in my opinion, it’s the only one entirely vital. It explains a lot of the covenant war’s beginning, How they ended up at Halo in CE, and plenty of other things.

However, if you really enjoy that, then you could continue reading them all, but Fall of Reach is definitely the starting place.

I read them chronologically:
Cryptum
Silentium
Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol
Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Evolutions
Glasslands
Thursday War

Publish date is also a good way to read them because you get introduced to information in the same way that we first saw it. So starting with Fall of Reach is also a good idea. It comes down to preference.

Glad to hear it! ^^

Btw, my mother started reading Fall of Reach and she’s enjoying it so far (even though she didn’t knew anything about the Halo Universe to beging with) so you can be sure you won’t get lost with that one.

lol. That’s awesome dude. Also, I would suggest (as everyone else is) either Fall of Reach or if you don’t care about chronological order, First Strike was great.

just make sure you read them in order

Personally Harvest and Ghosts of Onyx are also good reads for backstory.
Harvest is about Johnson and first contact with the Covenant, and Ghosts of Onyx is about A few remaining Spartan II’s and the Spartan III program. It’s also the first encounter with a Shield world.

Ghosts of Onyx is the first part of the K5 trilogy.

Important books to follow with the games’ story (to be read in order):
Takes place before and during the original Halo trilogy, covers John-117’s past with the creation of the Spartan-IIs.
-The Fall of Reach
-First Strike

The events that occurs after Halo 3, and leads up to Halo 4.
-Ghosts of Onyx
-Glasslands
-The Thursday War

Mystery of the Forerunners revealed, backstory on Didact and Librarian, 100,000 years before the events of the Halo games.
-Cryptum
-Primordium
-Silentium

The ones that I didn’t list aren’t necessarily a demanding priority to know the backstory of the Halo and Reclaimer trilogies.

No it’s not. the kilo five trilogy is being written (badly) by Karen Traviss.

Thank you lol. She’s a degree on Spanish Philology and finds the book actually entertaining (yay for the Halo novels xD)

Never mind what I said, my mind was off somewhere else…

Read Cryptum or First Strike. First Strike explains what happened before Halo 2 and after CE (how Chief got homw). Cryptum is just awesome in general.

Fall Of Reach.

Either Fall of Reach (background of Master Chief) or Cryptum (background of current trilogy)

I bought my one (“Ghosts of Onyx”) on the Android store for $15.00 AU.
