A Good Day Of Halo Infinite

Had a bit too much fun at a Memorial Day cookout, decided to call out of work, and with Tuesday having hit with fresh new Weeklies, I decided to sit down and play some Infinite.

Had a few staggered Challenges that had me playing Land Grab for a good hour or two, ones like 10k Cumulative Scoring and playing Land Grab Matches. Land Grab’s fine, I came to like it during the Entrenched Event, but having just had the Entrenched Event where I played so many Land Grab games I was a little annoyed to see them but I completed them fine and got some other Challenges completed like Melee Kills, Winning/Playing PvP Matches, and getting a Needler Kill. Launch Site is easily the map I hate playing the most for Land Grab but there were some fun/funny Banshee/vehicle shenanigans in Behemoth that made me enjoy it.

Also got to 100 on the Battle Pass. The Elite Skulls are cool, but for my Rakshasa setup I just liked the Banished Trophy and Iota-12 pieces more with my little medkit strapped to his thigh even though the Entrenching Tool was very tempting. Might swap it out on occasion.

Had to play five Team Slayer Matches as well. For some reason they were all BR Starts. Not bad, I’m fine with them, I just prefer ARs. Had some good and bad games but completed the five fine - not really any notable moments that I can think of. Got a Play Rumble Pit Match and get 10 Kills/Assists in Rumble Pit, played a round of Vampire Ball and got them completed easily, managing to take third with my skull-smashing skills apparently counting for another Melee Challenge that was completed - an unexpected but welcome bonus.

Highlight had to be when the last of my Challenges were getting 3 Mangler Kills, 15 BR Kills, 10 Shock Rifle Kills, and 10 Stalker Kills - all things I could easily do while playing BTB which is by far my favorite mode and where I get my most fun. Got a ton of my Shock Rifle Kills from a Stockpile game in Deadlock, picking it up and just going on a Killing Spree with it. My team got destroyed, a Wraith and a Ghost going to town inside our base at the end, but I was surprised at such success that I had with the Shock Rifle and enjoyed it despite the crushing defeat. Got the rest of my Shock Rifle Kills and 3 Mauler Kills during a Slayer match on Fragmentation.

Having a Slayer match on Breaker was where I finished getting my Stalker Rifle kills. A teammate grabbed it from our base spawn as soon as it spawned, but fortunately I was able to miraculously get to the other side to the enemy team, take out their guy with the Stalker, snatch it up, beam a Sword guy in the back of his head, take his sword, and me and another ally with a sword just ran around chopping up anyone that loitered around until I decided to get some distance and start picking off the enemy team with my Stalker. Despite pushing the enemy team back to their base a couple times, the game actually got close with a final score of 93-100 with me, having finished getting my Stalker kills, grabbing a Battle Rifle and getting the final two kills with it.

Funnily enough, the 15 Battle Rifle Kills was the last thing I completed. Did a Stockpile match on Fragmentation, half the enemy team managed to gather up inside the center of the map where all the Seeds spawned, trying to get them out. I had a Battle Rifle, went over to the side where they were trying to toss the Power Seeds out, I ended up killing and holding back a bunch of their reinforcements from coming to get them while tossing grenades into the central room. I eventually died from a couple people who poked out of the middle and shot me, but as my kill cam swung over to them it was in time to see them dying from my team who finally managed to breach the room and kill everyone, taking control of the Seeds and bringing most of them back to the base.

Respawned, grabbed a Repulsor, waited at one of the side spawn areas, hoping the Seeds would spawn on me, they did, I repulsed them all towards our base while the enemy team charged in, trying to stop us with a Brute Chopper and driving a Warthog up the ramp to our Power Seed station to try and stop us. Great fight, bunch of kills, explosions, wrecked vehicles, ended up getting another point with excess Seeds already stored with it being the first time I heard Iratus’s, “Are you truly human?” line. Only needed 3 Seeds, so when they spawned at the other side I charged in, got into a gunfight that a Drop Wall and some backup from the team saw us prevailing, grabbed only the Seeds we needed, started to run back to base with them, was completely caught by surprise to see that the enemy team had swarmed our base and were having a party, with a couple enemies stealing our excess Seeds from our station and tossing them off the man cannon, trying to make off with them.

Had a big, crazy firefight trying to get them back as well as the rest of the Seeds. Finally ended up scoring. Honestly a real fun match of Stockpile despite it being my least favorite BTB mode.

Weekly Ultimate was Kill 30 Enemies In Team Slayer. Joined a match, thankfully it was AR Spawns, it was on Recharge, teams were actually neck-and-neck until towards the end, around the 38 kill mark, that I managed to get a hold of the Gravity Hammer and devastated the team, getting us ahead and winning at 50-47 with me getting 16 of our kills. Second match I joined was again AR Starts, already been progressing for two minutes with my team trailing behind, but I decided to stick around. Actually thought we were going to lose horribly with how much the other team seemed to have their act together until we managed to break them in one firefight and even get ahead at one point but we lost at 46-50 with me getting my 14 Kills despite joining late, allowing me to complete the Weekly Ultimate.

Infinite has its flaws, I certainly wish I had more content and more freedom to play what I want much like I was able to with my weapon kills by just playing BTB, but at the end of this day with another batch of Weeklies completed, I still had fun, I’ll keep playing it, and despite having a mix of good or bad games I still managed to have a pretty relaxing day just chilling and playing Halo.

I think this is the key. Mix it up. Have fun. Let the challenges unfold.

I like the occasional incentive to mix it up a bit as I did here, but a bit more tweaking with the Challenges to be able to have more opportunities to just play my favorite game modes as I did with my weapon kills would be nice in the long run :stuck_out_tongue: Often the Challenges that I can do in any playlist end up being completed when I’m doing a Challenge that requires me to play a particular playlist (Land Grab) so when I’m done its just off to the next playlist (Team Slayer).
