A game not yet worthy of Chief.

343,

I want to first say that I applaud your efforts to provide such great fan-service with the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Halo is my favorite game series; a sentiment shared by most of the loyal gamers on these forums. I have anticipated and gladly opened my wallet for every single Halo release, and I have not been disappointed… until now. When I first heard about the release of The Master Chief Collection, I was thrilled at the prospect to relive some of the great moments I had playing through the various Halo titles. However, it seems that my excitement was misplaced. I come here not to fuel the fires of negativity, but to implore you to make this a game worthy of the Halo name.

I won’t regurgitate the issues of multiplayer that most people are facing. While I am encouraged that you are taking steps to correct this, it is simply not enough. Matchmaking has been an integral part of the series ever since the release of the first Halo. Therefore, it is unacceptable that people continue to have these problems several months after release.

Due in part to these lingering matchmaking issues, my friends and I have been patiently biding our time by playing the various campaigns. Unfortunately, this has become a wholly disheartening experience. Most nights when we try to launch a level in co-op, it rudely reverts us back to the main menu. After 10-15 tries, we may eventually be successful in launching a mission. However, the problems don’t end there. Just last night, my friend and I were attempting to beat the Halo 2 level Regret on Legendary. After making our way through the entire level, we started the last sequence of attempting to kill the prophet. After a few attempts, our game simply froze and returned us, once again, to the main menu. We were disheartened to say the least. This had not been the first time this occurred while playing through the Master Chief Collection, and we knew it probably wouldn’t be the last. Instead of getting back in there and trying again, we left and moved on to other games.

If you instinctively feel this to be a connectivity/network issue, I will stop you right there. In all the years I have been playing with my friend online (approximately 8), neither of us can recall having a single connection problem when it came to any other Halo title. These types of issues are prevalent every night while playing The Master Chief collection. It has come to the point where we don’t even want to play until these glaring issues in the game are fixed. Disconcertingly, we see a new wealth of hype arriving for Halo 5 while The Master Chief Collection is seemingly swept under the rug. I know that any loyal Halo fan would gladly bear a delay for Halo 5 if it meant making this a game worthy of Chief. We all know that 343 has an insane passion for Halo; that is something we all share. What I also know is that passion is not enough when making a great game. We see the love that you have for Halo upon release of a game, but ultimately, the game has to work in its’ intended way. Whenever someone asks me what makes Halo so great, I don’t solely tell them its the story, but that it’s also a great game from a technical standpoint. The first Halo was so refreshing, in part, because of the passion that made itself apparent through the refinement of the overall experience. This does not show in a game like The Master Chief Collection.

Normally I am not very active on the forums when it comes to issues such as these, but in this case I felt like I had to vocalize my concerns. Even if this post is unrecognized and disregarded, I know that I at least tried to fight for the game that should have been released. I bring these concerns in the hope that this game can eventually pay proper homage to the legacy of Halo. As of now, the Master Chief Collection is not a game worthy of the Halo name. It is not a game worthy of Chief.

Another post about MCC not working, but I like this one a lot. Hear, Hear! Maybe if 343 were to listen up, we wouldn’t be so PO’ed at them for their crap.

^ or if they’d respond more than once every week, and with more than “still working on things” vague stuff.

I am the friend Nimrod is referring to, and I cannot agree more with what he is saying. It has become a disheartening venture, borderline a punchline to a joke, so much so that we groan and try to guess how many attempts will it take us to get into a coop mission together, or worse, we set limits to the number of attempts we are willing to make to just try and get into the campaign together before we are willing to just give up and go play something else. 343, the decision to come on here is not something we are taking lightly. We discussed it at length last night, before agreeing that this was the only option we felt we had, because we desperately want our voices to be heard. We are not trolls trying to stir the pot, trying to sow dissent, or bring about disharmony. No, Nimrod and myself are huge longtime fans of the Halo series, and want to see this game run as it should.

For the record, I was a PC gamer until sometime in the very early 2000’s, a friend of mine called me over to his house and said, “You HAVE to check out this game!” I did, and my world changed forever. Yes, that game was Halo, on the original XBOX, and it turned me into an Xbox fan, pulled me away from the PC gaming world, and I haven’t looked back since. Some of the most fun I have ever had was having a house full of friends with four tvs, four Xboxes, and four people on each console ripping each other a new one every weekend night. Memories I will always cherish, let me tell you. Since then, with the advent of Xbox LIVE, the evolution of games, consoles, technology, and even us, the gamers, we have witnessed Spartan 117 become a symbol of our passion for shooters, competitive multiplayer matches, and even a symbol for the xbox itself. Everyone knows that Halo is THE flagship title for Xbox, period, hands down, no questions asked.

343 took over the reigns from bungie, starting with DLC from Halo Reach, leading into the Halo Anniversary on the 360. Minor issues that I am not even going to bring up here aside, you were off and running, and having us fans salivating at what was to come with Halo 4. Halo 4 hits, and personally, I feel like you knocked it out of the park. A fantastic start to the new future of the game series that so many of us adore and cherish! But, unfortunately, all was not well. If you recall, what many might see as a minor issue, there was a glaring problem for many people, including myself, where certain achievements would not pop. For me, it was the… Hello Nurse, I believe it was called. It didn’t matter how many times I did what was required for the achievement, it would not pop. Not long after this happened, the message boards began to rumble with a considerable number of other people, having the same issues as well. It might seem trite to some, but to be one achievement from 100% completion is a frustrating thing for some of us completionists, let me tell you. It took you guys almost a year before you finally got the achievement issue fixed, and from what I was reading you just unlocked the achievement… which if that was the case, in a troubleshooters world, you fixed the problem, but you didn’t fix the CAUSE. That… is bad. Very bad, and almost always comes back to haunt you.

The Master Chief Collection is announced, and finally hits the ground running. But, it doesn’t. Sadly, no heartbreakingly, especially to the hardcore fans of this amazing series, the MCC launch is plagued with issues from multiplayer matchmaking, to achievements not popping, and many other things. Nimrod and myself start going through the campaign on legendary, and let me tell you, it is an endeavor of aggravation. 343, you folks are now the flagbearers of our beloved series, and as such, a comment like that should cause you serious concern. THESE ISSUES HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED. It isn’t a question of should it be, or you want it to be, or you will try the best you can… it HAS to be fixed.

Allow me to present you with just a few of the issues we are dealing with, which Nimrod has already addressed, but I feel I need to reiterate here. We get on to play, Nim and I get in a party together. Usually, it has been me setting up the campaign missions, and firing it up for us to play. Once we get to Halo 2, it has become the norm for me to start our mission, get the loading screen, and it boots me back to the main menu. It seems that this has steadily gotten worse, and culminated this past weekend with us trying quitting out, rebooting the xbox, power cycling the xbox, switching hosting duties, whatever we could come up with, and after 2 1/2 hours, we simply gave up. That was this past weekend… move forward to last night. We have heartedly decided to attempt to get the campaign going again, and this time, after only 30 minutes… we got lucky, and finally got regret going. We quickly forgot all the problems we have been having, and sank our teeth into the game, once again able to enjoy ourselves. We get to the prophet, and are working on him, when suddenly we get booted back to the loading screen, and then the main menu. Game over, man, because for some reason… you guys will not allow us to start back at the last checkpoint in co-op, and force us to restart the WHOLE DANG MISSION. Yet another problem, that has to be resolved. Heartbroken, frustrated, and extremely dejected, Nimrod and I talked for several hours after this and decided that we really have no other option, no other voice, than to come here and try to make as much noise as we can. We intend to do this, and hopefully get your attention, 343, not because we want to upset you, hurt your feelings, or to be negative, but rather we are here to create as much noise as we can to try and help save Chief, and the glorious game that deserves to be as good as it can be, not what it currently has become. Lets make this a tool for something constructive and good, and right this ship so that it can become once again the juggernaut that is truly is. Thanks for your time.

TL;DR…jk jk

Seriously though, have there been any updates on this? Has the co-op campaign stability improved at all?
