I can no longer play this game. It is a complete mess and is made for the masses instead of being made for the people who have made Halo what it is today.
There are so many game breakers in this game it’s hard to start but I’m going to start with Promethean Vision. This Armor Ability is a complete joke. Never in my life have I played a game where it wasn’t considered a cheat to see through walls. It takes away the purpose of crouching and it promotes the use of another broken aspect of the game; the Boltshot. A weapon you can spawn with that has the capabilities of a 1 shot kill. It also has enough ammo to kill 1 people before you have to reload. The crack shot range on that gun is ridiculous too. If you don’t kill your enemy with the initial blast you still have 5 bullets left to land 1 headshot to finish them off.
Plasma Grenades - Something that I never had a problem with until this game. Sure getting stuck has always been annoying but at least your opponent had to pick them up on the map. Not anymore! You can spawn with them. It is ridiculous the amount of times I am stuck because right before I die they simply throw a plasma grenade to take me with them. It’s another way for 343 to lower the skill gap to make the casual players happy and shun the competitive players.
Jet Pack - It was completely broken in Halo Reach and is still completely broken in Halo 4. It is ridiculously unfair. You jetpack in the air and have perfectly accurate grenades. It eliminates all purposes of map control and map movement. It’s another game breaker. It is just another Armor ability to make the casuals happy.
All of this would be fine if there was some sort of competitive playlist. It is absolutely embarrassing how bad Team Slayer Pro was on release and it’s even more embarrassing it’s taking them this long to fix it. I am done with this game until Team Slayer Pro is re released and even then I can’t see myself playing too long because there is absolutely no ranking system. It’s a shame to see such an incredible series crumble. Thanks Microsoft and 343 for milking the Halo series and turning it in to another Call of Duty.

I could almost see into the past…
> I don’t care what you have do do, introduce whatever you have to but we need to compete with COD. Try merging both games together!
> idk, deviating to far from the Halo standard formula by allowing people to spawn with different thing and adding new game mechanics was met with a negative response from people that played the Reach Beta. Many bad reviews hurt release sales
> Oh that’s easy then, we just won’t fund a public Beta. We will let you guys give it weekly updates, like a post release beta… Call it a meta game. Here is a little cash, hold a private beta but keep it all hush hush. We can run awesome adds with all the money we save. More sales baby!
I could only feel sorry for 343. I can’t help but believe they were screwed over by awful marching orders from higher ups.
> I could only feel sorry for 343. I can’t help but believe they were screwed over by awful marching orders from higher ups.
It’s Microsoft’s fault I know. They wanted another game like Call of Duty so they would bring in the big bucks. They don’t care about the game they care about the money.
> Just give up. Competitive Halo is dead…it’s sad, I know, but it’s been dead since the day Reach was released and its never coming back.
>
> If you want a competitive Halo game I suggest that you find some like-minded players and organize some custom games.
I don’t understand why they can’t just add competitive playlists to the game. They love money so much why not cater to the competitive community as well? They added Team Slayer Pro but tried adding their own awful twist to it. All they need to do is make a playlist like Halo 3 and tons of people will be happy. Specifically placed weapons on map that respawn on timers, No Armor Abilities, BR or DMR Spawn with Magnum Secondary, and timed respawns. I don’t see the point of them trying to force a new style of Halo on players. It can’t possibly leave good feedback. They also ruined it for MLG. No way to take Sprint out, no way to just put weapons on map with spawn timers, AND NO WAY TO ADD TIMED RESPAWNS. Ridiculous.

Because they’re of the opinion that it doesn’t bring anything of value to the table. They seem to believe that competition only exists as a tool for people to thump their chest and degrade others, and while they are wrong, it doesn’t appear that they are going to be pursuaded to change their opinion on the matter…
Prior to the games’ release, Frankie came out and said that 1-50 would never return because all it did was encourage cheating, but it has been proven over and over again that any cheating in the last 1-50 system was so rare that calling its occurrence negligible would be an understatement. This goes without saying that cheating (as rare as it may be) still exists even without a skill-based ranking system. It’s not hard to see why they think this way. It’s the mindset of the sub-par player trying to justify why they can’t reach the top rank…and if they can’t have it then nobody should be able to.
They were even naive enough to believe this upcoming CSR system (which will just be BPR 2.0) would be enough to appease those who wanted a ranking system. What’s the point of a ranking system that’s only viewable on this website, especially when HaloTracker has created a much more reliable one? And yes, even without seeing it, I can guarantee that HaloTracker’s system is more reliable.
Like I said, just give up. Any hope of true competitive Halo returning is dead. Just do what I’ve done and move on. Enjoy the game for what it is even with all its faults and lack of any true incentive. Embrace the mindset of the casual gamer…It’s better than hoping and waiting for a change that will never come.
I’d be fine with watching another classic playlists population drop like in reach, you really want them to make a -Yoink- rehash of old game mechanics to please the handful of people who can’t accept change?
Reach was like the actual halo 4 beta, since then armor abilities became more reasonable and your loadout choices are customizable. It changed the game in a big way, hopefully whatever they do with skill rank in the new year will calm some people down but anyone who expected slayer brs to make a comeback was horribly misled
The stuff taken from CoD irks me in this game. Score-based gameplay and killcams are my main gripes. Also, this games seems to have narrowed the skill gap a bit, but not in a good way. I think it’s mainly due to heavy auto-aim. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been scoped in on someone and another enemy runs in between us and my reticule veers off towards the running enemy. It can get ridiculous.

Not to mention 343 Changing up the controls for what ever reason that is beyond my knowledge.

> @xMaggs & CrialJLA22, Every time I post something about 343i, I always make the point to refer to them as 343i/Microsoft. This is because I am of the personal opinion that Microsoft itself is behind the decision-making concerning all things Halo after Bungie’s departure and that 343i isn’t really it’s own entity, just an automaton that carries out Microsoft’s directives.

> My personal opinion based on the 343i/Microsoft-introduced playlists that Halo 4 launched with alongside the absence of classic Halo playlists that the Halo community took for granted would be available as well as the changes to lobby and gametype names and even the changing of the controls is that all of this a case of product re-branding. The point of 343i/Microsoft’s changes are to make it clear to players that Halo 4 is a 343i/Microsoft game, not a Bungie Halo game and to distance themselves as far from Bungie as possible in that regard.
>
> I believe 343i/Microsoft’s changes to Halo’s lore are also re-branding. New ideas that branch out in other directions instead of building on top of already established lore are perfectly reasonable. Unmaking the past and rewriting it to suit your purposes and support your agenda is quite another thing.

Makes sense, but when you hire ex-Bungie developers one would expect Halo 4 to be top notch. This game does nothing but regress from what Halo 2,3, and Reach once was (in terms of MP).

I think the re-branding point is exactly right. It just felt like this game wanted nothing to do with the past. I’m no expert on Halo lore, but my friend definitely had a hard time swallowing the details of the Halo 4 story.
Re Branding is fine but every FPS/TPS I ever played that has evolved has never forgotten about it’s classic players. I understand they may want to re-brand Halo but there is no reasonable answer to leave our your competitive/classic community because in the long run it will be a loss of money. I guess I’ll assume Microsoft didn’t give them enough time to have everything the way they wanted on launch.
I think that casuals will try ranked playlists too and it will push them to get higher level. It boosts the game. Halo 3 multiplayer was a succes thanks to that (in part obviously).
Why not do it again ?
343 lets MLG players try Halo 4 Beta. Why ? Competitive players are long term players and it’s a huge advertisement for the game…
I think (and hope) that 343 really listens halo community, and they will boosts that game which can be a really good one.

Sundance tweeted the other day about Halo possibly not making it to the MLG Circuit due to Microsofts contract with -Yoink!- Gaming but he also said 343 is interested in working with them. I guess 343 can only do as much as Microsoft let’s them. Only time will tell.
