I have been wondering lately about something that could keep players in the campaign mode for longer because of more things to possibly do as the master chief.
Now I’ve discovering new things about halo all the time and have realised just how awesome it would be to actually explore that amazing galaxy of halo for yourself!
So this isn’t going to be as detailed as Skyrim but I still know it could take a while to make and it might already be too late to put into the game so it could be suggested for halo 5’s sequel. Basically, during the campaign, you would be traveling on all kinds of different planets on a quest to save the world no doubt, and on these planets you can visit lots of cities which will have lots of species that could be in the lore, who are roaming around the streets and markets were you can buy supplies ( ammo, vehicles etc ). And maybe have a few of those alien civilians give you some random side mission ( find their kidnapped friend in a covenant base? ). Also the city leaders should give you more important tasks like defending their city from some brute invaders ( these battles must be long lasting ) ( elite mercenary allies ) (wraiths firing at the walls ) ( banshees filling the skies and lots of explosions! ).
Of course, there should be the most important and biggest side missions of all, Laskey, Arbiter and Locke should be the only ones who can give you these missions. They could involve boarding the cruisers of those pirate elites that you meet in halo 4 or retaking bases that have been overwhelmed by the flood or even having straight forward wars with the brutes ( I can’t be bothered to talk about the prometheans ).
These missions should be designed to have multiple endings depending on what you do.
I know most of you will probably say this is the most far fetched crap on the Internet and I understand that and you were probably trying your hardest not to blow up with anger and I understand that too but it’s only the campaign part of the game and the actual story would be kinda separate so if you like it then let 343i know to give this one a chance and possibly fit some Star Wars Easter eggs in somewhere because this actually seems a lot like it when you think.
Anyway, I’m gonna rest my typing fingers.
This idea sounds pretty sweet but I don’t think it could work with Halo and here’s why: Canon. You wouldn’t be able to canonically explain the events of Halo 6 in an open world game that gave that much freedom to the player. At this point it pretty much has to be a linear story. Although it would be pretty sweet to have an optional side mission where you could intercept a Kig-Yar ship smuggling weapons and supplies, or any other example you gave.
If each player could play these missions in any variety of order at their free will then for canon buffs we couldn’t say “on March 20th, 2559, Chief went here and did this” as we have been thus far without running into some problems.
Even if you made it a spin-off, if you will, like ODST or Reach where you could be your own Spartan and set off in the Galaxy to tackle a bunch of missions and side-quests at your leisure, like Skyrim or Farcry, then, like with all other Spartans we’ll want to know “who is this Spartan, where did he/she come from? If you can choose gender, which one is canon?” It’ll be like Noble 6 all over again … who, by the way, is canonically male and wears the default Mark V(b) in all steel.
As awesome as this idea sounds, having a game like Skyrim (or even Fable) set in the Halo Universe, you see where the issues would begin. That’s why they should keep Halo linear, and we can play Destiny to get our fill of Space Skyrim. That’s what I’m planning to do.
halo is an FPS in the first instance, not an RPG or action-RPG. keep experiments like this to spinoffs.
The linear campaigns grow old for me, especially in terms of replayability. But I don’t think this is the right direction for a primary Halo title.
It’s an awesome idea, but probably better suited to a Halo spinoff, a la Reach or ODST. There’s such potential in the Halo universe for this kind of thing, though. Would love to see 343 branch out with something other than another Halo clone.
Thank you for not going mad at the ideas guys
Campaign Scoring, Loadouts (i.e, choosing specific weapons to spawn with at the start of the level, perhaps some kind of perks) and more open-approach level and enemy design would really help replayability.

agreed…although…it would be awesome to see a spinoff like this xD
