I have a few worries about these free updates, what is actually contained in them and 343’s timeline.
Now what we have seen so far in these updates is a few maps, lots of reqs, lots of customization options and we are soon to be getting ball gametypes next month. Now assuming that 343 has only been working on these ball gametypes and not any other gametypes, we can probably expect infection in the April update at the latest, March at the earliest (fingers crossed).
Ok so by then we will have most of what everyone expected the game to ship with in the first place (having no idea whats coming in future updates this could be wrong). From what we have seen so far 343’s plan seems to be add reqs, maps, armor and add “cut” content.
But here is the thing, 343 has only said that these free updates will be until June! If 343 continues along its current pace we will have a full game by then with nothing really new or exciting (which is what we were lead to believe these updates would give us)
So what happens after that June update?
Well that’s when the REAL dlc comes in , the stuff you pay for! So essentially these free updates would just be the rest of the game they didnt get time to do and a few reqs tacked on, with the label “free” to make it more palatable that we got half a game at launch.
Now this is just a theory and I under no circumstances want this to happen! Its just 343 is being very vague about what their plans are and I frankly, given their track record, don’t trust them.
I think Kiki Wolfkill, stated at the Video Game Awards that their are some big surprises coming in June for Halo 5 (E3 most likely). I think setting June as the cut off point for the free content updates was a test run of the REQ system to see if it is successful business plan. Methinks it was successful and we can see more free content post June, but that is my theory.

sounds like something they would totally do. i knew they would pull this crap from the first “update”
Mhm maybe, their is pretty much no way to find out until june, either way come fall I think halo wars 2 will be out and ready to go so I’ll be happy either way.
Having made such a big deal about having free DLC in Halo 5 and introducing REQ packs, I don’t believe they would start charging for DLC after June. Their entire marketing was around not splitting up the population which was a big problem in previous games. Why would they suddenly revert to doing that?
My understanding is that the promise of the updates being until June was something made before launch, when they couldn’t be 100% sure how successful the Req system would be as a money maker. Considering that it seems to have been a huge success, it’s entirely possible that they will extend the timeline of free updates.
I and a few others on the forums have long maintained that the majority of the “free” updates will be used to actually complete the game by adding in features they didn’t complete in time for launch or intentionally left out to promote something “new” coughBtB/warzonecough
then at which point they will revert back to a paid dlc system and actually give us updates of substance

It was mentioned somewhere in small print that free updates would run until June 2016, but dates subject to change. The June date is highly likely just for legal reasoning, cover their bases.
