A few thoughts on the state of things.

Greetings Reclaimers,

Over the past few weeks, we have seen more Halo 4 information released than in the past 10 months. This flood of news has drawn more and more people with differing opinions to our forums, resulting in some heated debates and intelligent discussions. However, these debates and discussions have yielded some unfortunate side effects. Recently, the moderation team (and perhaps you as well) has noticed a sharp spike in volatile behavior on the forums, focused mostly in the Halo 4 sub-forum.

We would like to make it absolutely clear that feeling strongly about a particular subject does not exempt you from the Waypoint Forum Rules and Forum Guidelines. If you have opinions to share, then this is absolutely the place to share them, but not at the expense of our community. I’m sure you can agree that it would be detrimental to not only our community, but the Halo community as a whole, if we were to be seen as a place where differing opinions are attacked endlessly, and where name calling is the norm. We ask that you treat your fellow forum users with kindness, patience, and most of all, respect.

This is a place where all should feel welcome, and those who actively promote an unfriendly or unwelcoming environment will be subject to moderation.

Basically, be nice to each other. It’s alright to have disagreements, but insulting people, trolling, and other activities which are not allowed in the Waypoint Forum Rules and Forum Guidelines are flat out not allowed. Remember, this forum is a place for Halo fans to call home, and we should never feel unwanted in our homes. For those of you actively promoting a positive and engaging atmosphere, we would like to sincerely thank you. Your positive attitude has not gone unnoticed <3

It’s also worth mentioning that if you’re ever frustrated, or have any questions, you can always PM a member of the moderation team. Remember, we’re all on this great journey together, let’s make it a comfy ride

I’ll enjoy the ride, as long as it doesn’t involve activating a Halo ring or the Ark…

And your post is 100% Schatten Blitze approved! Have a thank, I think I can spare one for you :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow!!!

A great and cool moderator that is respectful and not on a power trip like sooooo many other mods.

This makes me proud to post at Waypoint. Why can’t other places get awesome mods too.

Oh… Uh…

Plan b! Plan b!

It’s funny and painful at the same time that some people think they can bypass the rules, because they are just stating their opinion, but it gets out of hand a lot of times…

Screw plan B. Just go plan E, all of the above! Wait…

Which is why we want to foster a community that everyone can come into and call it home.

Halo brought us all together. We may have differing opinions, but we can all at least be respectful and constructive.

Execute ALL the plans.

There is no way this is going to end well :stuck_out_tongue:

I do believe… that there is no way that executing all the plans is going to end well :stuck_out_tongue:

(You were referring to me, right?)

Maybe someday. But if they do come for you, you better be ready :stuck_out_tongue:

The solemn square is our most sacred rite, how on earth did you find out about it?

Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Das Kalk, it is much needed and appreciated.

Time to share some wisdom of my own.

As an avid forum goer, I have seen my fair share of less-than-desirable activity by run-of-the-mill forum jerks. I would say the most important lesson I have learned is the ability to discern when I should reply to certain discussions and how to reply in a pleasant manner when others are increasingly hostile.

Typically, when I am typing a response, if I feel I am making an angry or mean spirited impression, I just delete and retype the post differently. Writing posts that come off as hostile doesn’t benefit anyone. You look like a jerk to everyone else, people won’t respect you or your opinions, and it degrades the community as a whole. Why would anyone want participate in a forum community that is filled with undesirables?

Sometimes, I feel it’s just better not to respond to certain discussions. Why should I waste my time sharing my opinion when it’s obvious that a discussion is quickly going downhill? Often, my response would fall upon deaf ears anyway. Sometimes, negative discussions just aren’t worth the effort.

We Monitors and SI’s really appreciate the forum members that contribute in a meaningful way to the Waypoint community, regardless of their opinions.* Those members make the forums a place worth visiting for many people.

This forum is often the first stop for many just discovering Halo, and we want Waypoint to be an example of a healthy community with healthy discussion and interaction among it’s members.

*Sometimes we appreciate you a lot, maybe too much.

this moderator is ga AWESOME not just awesome he’s -Yoink!- and in a vote of somthing out of ten i give him a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHqEwIadhO8

Kalamari, you make a good point, not to mention that posting in a thread that’s full of angry people will do nothing but keep the thread alive rather than let it die as it should.

This thread is full of very wise people, it makes me happy. And may more people read this thread and learn from it!
