I know that there are a few posts already going on around about a few of these things, but I have limited access and no time to really browse through everything as there is an update almost every 30 seconds with how popular everything is. Anyways… Let me get started.
There are a few things that do need to be fixed about this game. I will not go to the point of saying that the game is broken, and that it is the worst Halo in history — because it’s not. Far from it. I’ve actually had more fun playing Halo 4 than I have playing Halo: Reach throughout its entire span, and Halo 3. The last time that I have had this much fun playing a Halo game was back on Halo 2. I feel that a lot of what 343 has done has been a step in the right direction. However, there have been some steps made that have made a decline.
The number one problem for me is the Custom game options. You have removed many of the options that many of us have loved playing since the very first time that we put a Halo game in an Xbox console. Classic CTF needs to be brought back, Assault needs to be brought back, and for that matter, bring back all the previous options! There’s no point in stepping back by removing these things, but step forward and introduce something new (Regicide). The main problem about this is you have eliminated the possibility of flag juggling for MLG standard, which was one of the first things I looked for when I found out that CTF was going to have a pistol in your hand. I like the idea, I think it’s a nice change, but I would like to be able to do things in the old way.
Another problem I noticed and that highly disappointed me is the maps… they are good maps. I’m happy that they are actually new, and not just remakes. My main question: Why not MORE symmetrical maps? I’m a competitive gamer, and I like to play my games where everyone starts on fair ground. You’re not sitting there hoping to be on the red team or the blue team because either team has an advantage, you’re just looking for what team you’re on so you know which direction you’re going to go at the start. Countdown on Reach, I knew that if I was playing MLG and on the red team, slayer, I needed to turn right to go camo or left to go rockets. That’s all I should have to think about. This is a simple fix with community creations. Where can I submit maps that may be entered into matchmaking in the future? At the same time, I will say that I am annoyed if every map looks generally the same just because of limited textures and would like to continue to see new maps created by 343 that go strictly for symmetry.
Leading into the idea of community creations, there’s a small error in the forging… I’ve been forging a map, and I can’t just build it all in one sitting. I save my map, I exit, and I will go back to it later when I have another idea come up for it. When I re-enter my map, pieces that I have used as floors (Wall Coliseum) have moved! What’s up with that? Just an error that you guys need to make sure is fixed in the future, especially if it’s because I didn’t enable magnets. Believe it or not, I do love your magnet option, but with pieces here and there, I have to do some fine tuning by going into the coordinates or barely moving something away from a magnet — but it moves! — I hope to see this glitch fixed or explained how I can avoid this.
The last thing that I would like to suggest is that you bring back the CLANS! Halo 2 had clans, and we have not seen them since… and while I will not say I was really expecting to see them return, I think they would be a great return. And they would make sense, for a story purpose. From what I understand, as it was pretty much said right at the beginning of it all, the Spartan program was re-created. Spartan Ops even tells us that. Halo 2 was just the Master Chief… story wise, why would there be more Spartans to be part of a clan? We liked the option, we used the option, but by the story, it didn’t make sense! Halo 3 removed the clans as an option, and we missed it. But it didn’t make sense to have it as Master Chief was the last Spartan. Halo: Reach would have made sense to bring it back as the Master Chief wasn’t even in the picture, and you had an actual squad of Spartans. Bungie chose not to do it, and we continued to miss it. Something that you could look into patching in in the future, I’m sure, but I think that it would be a great addition to Halo 4 as it does also make sense to a story perspective. You and your friends are in a Spartan squad that they can create for themselves. Shrug I think it’s a good idea. I can’t speak for anyone else. It’s not like this is a “make or break” decision anyway, but just something I wanted to throw in the hat.
That’s all I have to say for now.
It’s still a great game that I enjoy playing and will continue to enjoy playing. I just hope you will read our input, and mine, and consider fixing/adding any of these.
