A few suggestions to improve Spartan Ops

So far, I enjoy Spartan Ops, but as a replacement for Firefight, I find it…lacking. There are a few things that could be implemented without completely changing the engine.

First off, scoring and medals should be implemented in game. As it stands, your medals and score are only available via post-game stats…and even then it only shows how much each medal is worth and your biggest kill, it would be nice if I had an in-game counter keeping track of my score in comparison to the other players. Maybe include a list of Personal High scores per each chapter.

Second, put a higher emphasis on the speed at which players complete matches. Currently, Waypoint keeps track of your best times for each chapter, I’d like to see an in-game clock as well as a list of “Best Times”, separated by Solo/Multi and by difficulty.

Third, keep track of each Flawless finish per chapter. Again, this is already tracked by Waypoint, but I’d much rather it be listed up front than hidden deep in my personal Career profile.

A better list.

1:Make assists worth more than kills.

2:Give medals more generously. Like the assassin medal AS the animation begins, not at the end (which doesn’t happen, they usually get stolen).

3: greatly improve the ai. Legendary simply shouldn’t be weaker players and stronger enemies. Enemies should evolve tactics in higher difficulties that are better for them… But they should still be fair to kill. The player should not feel cheated because all the enemies have instakill fuelrods and 10 times his health.

4: In keeping with a better ai… Make death more meaningful. Spartan ops shouldn’t be a bunch of respawning characters who do suicide runs in order to kill the enemy the fastest.

5: the last point would be painful if put with a terrible team. sort players into groups.

6: offer more armours for spartan opps completion. There are three spartan ops specific armours and a whole load more specific to wargames

Firefight was always cared for poorly in reach and now it’s just a mini campaign for the events between halo 4 and 5. Which means for anyone who plays the campaign but not spartan ops come halo 5 the story might leave them scratching their head as to what happened. From other posts I’ve read it sounds like halo 4’s plot would make more sense to those who’ve read the novels. I have no interest in gaming novels so I’m probably missing key info by playing spartan ops/halo 4 campaign without reading them.

To improve spartan ops make betrayals with vehicles impossible. Add scoring and medals and I’d remvoe the game complete as well. That’s just me though; in reach tons of people just afk for credits, in spartan ops it’s for the xp. I don’t understand why you get a higher xp payout for co-op games than solo.

Enemy spawns needs to be fixed. This is one of the worst things I see in spartan ops is that oft times enemies - prometheans - will spawn out of nowhere. On legendary you’re guaranteed to die. If you play spartan miller on legendary solo you’ll be extremely lucky to finish the level. I’ve done it co-op legendary 2 player and both equipment sites got blown up. It also doesn’t help when you spawn in a cluster -Yoink- of frg elites/grunts/hunters or sniper prometheans. In Reach you could finish games without dying, in spartan ops I feel like I’m supposed to fail. It’s one thing to be a challenge but to make some levels the only method of beating them suicide runs that’s a poor way to accomplish the objective.

It’s Spartan Ops, fix the horrible lag in matchmaking. If it is fixed, then punish players for dying to kind of make it like classic ODST Firefight.

We should be able to do more stuff like pilot a Pelican or something (it’s been done in Halo 4 campaign) or explore maps instead of just killing enemies wave after wave.

The lag in match making - I can’t agree more. My situation is this: I have fiber-to-the-home and download speeds at 34-60Mbits, you read that right, 30-60. And I still have so much lag that Multi-player online Spartan Ops is unplayable. I’m guessing this is a server problem.

When I talk about lag and unplayable it means that players jump 30 yards or so without transitioning. Trigger pulls and shot sounds are seconds apart.

Now, Wargames online is just fine. No problem there at all.

P.S. My NAT is Open.

While Gruntpocalypse on Halo:Reach was easily beaten on Legendary, I would like to see a more difficult version on Halo 4. It was always a good warm-up and fun practice.

Most of you suggestions are in-game, but I would like a better handling of Solo/Co-Op info. I wanted to make sure I completed every chapter on Legendary both ways, and it is only deep within Waypoint that you can find that info. It would be nice if that info was actually available from the game menus…

I agree with every single thing in this post. I was AMAZED at the mission Spartan Miller (Ep 5:Ch 1 if you don’t know). Forty guys surrounding the objective and continuously fire at the stations while the best you can do is two rockets and then reload/die.
