> > > Hi, I’m Cake, and I’ve been playing fps for a few years now. I would say I’m a good player when it comes to first person shooters, or at least I’m a lot better since I played halo 5 last. I have reached highs of masters in Overwatch (97th percentile, or top 3% of players) and I generally hover around diamond (90th percentile, or top 10% of players). I’ve recently returned to halo 5, after quitting for Overwatch in August 2016. One of the main reasons why I quit was because I was a bit -Yoink-. My aim was awful, I was extremely aggressive, I had very little gamesense, and I blamed it all on the game being hard. So I’ve just got a few questions that will hopefully help me get back into it fairly quickly, and be able to perform a lot better with my teammates. Here they are:
> > > - To what extent do you need to play as a team? I come from Overwatch, as I said, which has a heavy focus on playing as a team, so how often in Halo 5 do you need to develop a coordinated push to take back a power position? Do you get people acting as shields, or bait? People bodyblocking, or letting themselves lose their own shields to bait the enemy to play aggressively, and die? - How do you structure communications, and how do you communicate? Do you have a dedicated target caller, who calls out who you need to focus? If so, how do you identify that target, so all your team know which one to focus? Do you have a dedicated shotcaller, who calls out where you should move, and where to take positions, and keeps track of power weapon spawns? In a solo queue match, what kind of stuff do you really need to call out? - Have there been any major changes since August 2016? - I understand the slide + jump + booster combo to go fast, are there any other movement combinations which I need to know? - Are there any advantages to ADS? Longer range, more precise, etc. - What’s the meta in Arena? Which guns should I focus on, and which should I avoid? These are all the questions I could think of. Thanks for reading, and if you reply, thanks for the replies.

Even in a team of randoms, do try to force teamwork. Never play for yourself, the team and the win are what matter. Your team strategies should adapt to the situation at that. Well, unless it’s FFA. Then just go crazy. - Callouts only really work if you can chat with your team, and that doesn’t really happen with randoms. If you do have a team to run with, the method of communication I’ve seen is calling out the locations of hostiles, coordinating map control, and controlling power weapons. Also in my experience, it’s more of a haphazard process rather than a “everyone has a job” kind of thing. - They did retune the weapons. The AR and BR are much more niche than before, but the Magnum is godlike now. - Use Ground Pound and the ADS hovering to make really big jumps. Really effective on maps like Coliseum. - ADS gives you more of an effective range, increases the RRR, and gives the weapon an accuracy buff. It’s better to keep ADS for the long range gunfights though, which is when the enemy isn’t in hipfire RRR. - The way Halo 5 plays makes metas very situational. In Arena, especially ranked, the metas tend to be power weapons that allow aggressive play styles, but also counter many weapons effectively and are somewhat all purpose (read: rockets). In Warzone, the metas vary even more widely. However, popular REQ’s tend to be:A. The Whiplash Railgun

> With roles, would you ever consider it being used in coordinated play, for example when you squad up with other players? Also, I noticed that the BR felt weird, so I was generally using my Magnum over it. What do you mean in the sense that the AR is niche? I had noticed that it felt slightly different, however I was still getting the kills consistently with it. Also, are there any situations where you would choose the BR over a Magnum?
Roles are something I’d reserve if you were getting into some really sweaty matches, because while roles do buy you coordination, they come at the cost of flexibility.
The AR is niche in the sense that it’s much more of a CQC weapon now. I would heavily advise against using it outside of say, a couple Spartans’ length away from you. The AR has much more of a cemented role now as a “surprise weapon”, something that can take advantage of players’ heavy reliance on the Magnum in CQC. I would usually only use it for that, because other maneuvers are… risky to say the least.
The time I would use a BR over a Magnum would be in Warzone with my Sentinel and H2 BR’s. Especially that H2BR, that thing as a huge advantage over a Magnum. Even in Arena (major Slayer Torque tip!). In other scenarios though, the Magnum has the advantage.
