A few questions about the shield worlds.

I’m an avid fan of the extended universe, but I haven’t dug deeper into the forerunners as of yet.

The few questions I have:
• Does Requiem have tiny, artificial stars within itself?
• How exactly is Sarcophagus ‘inside’ Onyx?
• Is the terrestrial surface of Etran Harborage concave?

Requiem doesn’t have artificial stars, unless you consider lights on the inner-surface of the protective sphere around it to be artificial stars.

The Dyson Sphere is a pocket of realspace, slipped into a pocket of slipspace, which is then hidden within the planet, Onyx. You might think of it like Doctor Who’s Tardis, or if you play D&D, it’s sort of like something being in a Bag of Holding.

The artificial shield world in Halo Wars is convex on the outer surface, and concave on the inner surface, as one would expect for what’s essentially a giant hollow ball around a tiny artificial star.

Requiem had multiple layers of shells. It’s like a normal planet encased within that mechanical shell, except this “planet” is also hollow, with Didact’s Cryptum inside the hollow space. Most battles in Halo 4 took place on the outer surface of the “planet”, and the giant spires you see in the game link the planet’s surface to the mechanical shell. A light source is on the inner surface of the mechanical shell (thus facing the planet’s surface), providing “sunshine”, though I don’t know if that counts as a “tiny star”.

Onyx had a normal surface with countless Sentinels as its underlying structure. Deeper inside, at the core of Onyx, was a slipspace passage leading to Sarcophagus, which was concealed in a slipspace bubble measuring 23cm in diameter. At in the end of Ghosts of Onyx, Onyx blew up and then Sarcophagus returned to normal space in its full glory. In short, the slipspace bubble that held Sarcophagus was inside Onyx.

Etran Harborage was like a ping pong ball. It looked like a normal planet from the outside (save for the Flood infestation, of course), and the inner surface (concaved) was a mixed of Forerunner infrastructure and wildlife as we see in the game.

While I think there were shield worlds with suns inside them, requiem isn’t one of them.

Actually according to Silentium, Requiem had multiple artificial stars for light. The multiplayer map Haven is also part of the system that maintains the artificial suns.
