What if Master Chief does succeed in bringing her back . . . but it’s not as he or Dr. Halsey intended?
Something goes wrong in the resurrection process via a misuse of Forerunner/Precursor technology.
Cortana comes back, but she isn’t . . . exactly “Cortana” any more.
She’s . . . something else.
Although I still lean more towards leaving her dead, if she does come back, it shouldn’t really be her anymore. Something evil and of immense power, something that knows everything about the Master Chief, his every weakness, and something that looks very much identical to someone he cares deeply about.
Just let stay dead. There are plenty of other dangers in Halo, we don’t need an evil Cortana.

This. Cortana should stay dead forever and ever. While having her return evil will be better than her returning just like she was before and everything going back to normal, it’s still bad and still worse than her staying dead.

The first idea was scrapped in Halo 1. >.<
But the second idea… it’d be interesting to see UNSC AI being manipulated or forced into Promethean service.

This. Cortana was a great and important character as was the Sergeant. There’s really no need to resurrect her just to become another enemy to John’s.

No I meant as her being in control lol. Would be a mighty foe.

R.I.P Sergeant Johnson (CE)2001- 2009(ODST)
If this is what they planned, they shouldn’t revive her, it would ruin the point of Halo 4. Let her leave on an emotional and important note.
R.I.P Cortana(CE) 2001- 2012(HALO 4) at least she survived longer than Johnson.
Did anyone get the feeling that the forerunner bird creature might be cortana fused with the forerunner tech. Sort of symbology of the phoenix rising from the ashes?
I think it might be cool to havr her return as a rampant forerunner tricked ou version of herself that you need to overcome. I was disappointed in her build up to rampancy as it did not pay off in halo 4. Forward unto dawn showed some potential with that but the game didn’t build on it in a meaningful way.

No. Though to be fair I was cursing about how stupid I thought that teaser was at the time. But still, no. Her death was confirmed twice at this point, she is dead to me.

How exactly did her ending not lead to a pay off. Yeah, you didn’t save her, but she was able to save Chief and finally experience what it was like to be real. She left on a happy note.
I’d really love to see Cortana come back, personally Halo just wouldn’t feel the same without her there. With Halo 5 going darker, I’m sure I could live without her there but I would like to see her return in Halo 6 in some fashion. Perhaps not a full restoration to her former glory - I remember reading an idea about her becoming human (hate me all you want, I am quite fond of this idea). I don’t think that would detract from her exit at the end of Halo 4
How about a new Cortana model? Just like she said, if there was a way to make another version of her. (I’m aware of Halsey’s status as part of Jul’s team)
Chief would have to cope with the fact that he’s become replaceable just like they replaced Cortana, and that would get some interesting development.

Yeah, I have no idea where 343i is getting this “Cortana-model” thing from, no such thing exists or has even been hinted at in any prior piece of Halo canon or material.
