a constructive post

Heres a constructive post I think most halo fans could write a good halo 5 campaign story .

This may be better suited to the Universe section.

But anyways, I generally disagree.

It depends on what kind of story you’re talking about.

A small, personal story, without deep themes and an expansive direction? Perhaps.
But a world-building story? Deep emotional connections, a massive scope pulling from tons of source material, influenced by numerous renowned science fiction writers and themes, fulfilling the Halo universe to its potential? No… not really.

Could you establish what exactly was wrong about 343’s direction with the Halo story this time around and use some fan examples to support your claim that fans could write a better story? It is a common claim in many fanbases that they could do better than the creator, but one I’ve rarely seen pan out.

No I mean halo 5 I think they could write halo 5’s story and have it be successful. Its not hard to write a Halo story all you have to do is have a imagination

Let me ask you what do you like about the story? Give me examples?

Given how most Halo fans don’t even know what a Precursor is, I highly doubt it. Seriously, the majority would probably write Cortana back in, end with a happily ever after, and have a lot of Michael Bay scenes in between. 343 is much, much better than that.

Well, I can start with how they built up the relationship with Cortana and Chief in Halo 4. My full thoughts are here. As for focusing more on the Master Chief as a character, my thoughts can be seen here. That last one can be summed up in my appreciation that 343 treat Chief as a character, whereas Bungie made him a walking cliche that fans imagined themselves as to the detriment of him as a character. The Forerunner Saga of books were very good in my opinion. They heavily expanded the backstory of the Forerunners and presented them less as the guardian angels of the galaxy many assumed them to be and made them a more realistic presence. Some of the artistic liberties of Halo: Legends weren’t ideal, but for short episodes that give us more story about the origins of the role of Arbiter and its fall, to the problems with the Spartan-II program, to some badass mecha action, I can’t complain. The Kilo-5 books sucked though, but I’ve been saying that for years since they more-or-less embody the fear of losing focus on what Halo is with favorite characters being turned into corrupted caricatures of themselves to the author forcing her opinions on what is and is not justice down our throats. But 343 seem keen on retconning details of that series out of existence, so I can forgive them for that.

But really, I simply find the characters that 343 creates to be more than sci-fi cliches recycled into people, but actual individuals with recognizable personality traits and room to grow. The growth of Sarah Palmer from Spartan Ops to Halo: Escalation alone has been a neat experience and I dare say I would like to see more of her…within reason. The expanded universe of Halo has been increased far more under 343 than with Bungie, we’re now getting a bigger look at the Covenant culture for one example. I just don’t think the fans, imaginative as some may be, could do better. I’ve tried, I even wrote a Halo 4 script years back before the game released and while I enjoyed making it, I recognize how bad some of it was.

Bungie’s master chief was a beast and 343 has made him fragile and weaker this doesn’t set well with me.He’s also being disrespected by the worst character ever made Sarah Palmer. And you are ok with this???Bungie felt more bada $$ and more military than what’s being put out now the spartan 4s are disorganized and dont feel very military to me.

Lol why yes

I…I have no idea what’s happening right now.

OP…wtf are you doing??

Define fragile and weaker. He survived Requiem on his own prior to the UNSC Infinity arriving, disobeyed Captain Del Rio to take on the Didact solo and saved the Earth again. As for disrespecting him, all Palmer said was “I thought you’d be taller” as a joke and Chief evidently wasn’t upset by it. Can’t really argue about the Spartan-IVs not feeling very military since that seems fairly opinionated.

Then what, exactly, do you want in a fan story of Halo 5 since you don’t care for lore apparently? Halo’s story and universe is incredibly rich and diverse and has a lot of lore to expand upon. I don’t understand why you think it’s so simple to create a story that fits within all the parameters of the universe that exist currently.

Hey i didn’t say i didn’t care about lore but the new lore thats out now.I dont like the didact as a bad guy he seems to generic with the mantle and mankind.and the composer was a generic super weapon i thought converting people in to digital was too much tron for me…halo 5 I can already tell locke is going to have a stick up his butt
