A Constructive List of Needed Changes to Warzone

First off, I think 343i did a great job with Warzone. It’s a cool idea for an FPS game that uses elements of Mobas. The REQ system is neat, especially after the much needed changes to leveling and despawning in Infinitys Armory. That being said, I recently reached rank 145 playing Warzone almost exclusively, and after 1,300 games I have some thoughts about what is good and what needs tweaking.

Here’s my list so far, in no order of importance:

*The Mantis needs a buff. Period. Except for the Oni version, the Mantis is absolutely awful for a level 7 REQ. In its current state, it should be level 5. Heres why: it’s designed as a mid-weight support vehicle - not a solo powerhouse like the Banshee Ultra or Oni Tank - so it should probably be accessible mid game to help establish map control and defend other vehicles. Its kind of like a super Warthog right now, useful in specific ways but not fantastic. For a level 7 REQ, It’s too slow, boarded too easily, doesn’t have a high damage output, and feels like it’s made of paper.

*The gunner in a warthog turret needs a slight buff to shield strength. Precision weapons got a huge buff in Halo 5, and Warzone now features 12 player teams, so It’s extremely easy to headshot a gunner because of how BRs behave. The scalpel precision granted by 60 frames per second reliability doesn’t make being a warthog gunner a viable profession these days. Give 150% shield strength to compensate.

*The basic Covenant Carbine should be REQ level 3, especially with the introduction of Rain of Oblivion and Blood of Suban.

*Talon of the Lost needs a ROF and ammo reserve buff. Nobody actually uses it against vehicles and it’s completely useless against players. Hailstorm is better in every way.

*Reduce the Suppressor kill time by 20% or make it a level 1 REQ.

*XP rewards for completing commendations are pathetic. They need a dramatic boost. I earn more from a single game of Warzone than I do for getting 50 kills with the Suppresor, and that’s an achievement.

*Vehicle boarding needs balancing. Period. There should be at least TWO melee attacks to expose a vehicles critical spot before planting a grenade. It’s simply way too easy to get caught off guard, and there’s not enough time for infantry support to respond. Vehicles are meant to travel in a column with support, but current mechanics don’t allow enough time for players to kill an attacker once they’ve boarded your vehicle. It’s ridiculous. In six seconds flat, there’s a grenade in the engine and there’s nothing you can do. You can’t even use splash damage from your own gun as a last resort.

*All promotional REQ packs should be able to be purchased by in game currency

*Maps should appear twice at most in sequence in playlists. Playing Stormbreak 7 times in a row gets old.

*343 should really stop giving me 70% Arena Boosts and 30% Warzone boosts in my REQ packs. I could care less about Arena, yet I seem to get stacks of them.

That’s all I can think of for now. What are some of your wanted changes for Warzone?

Boarding is fine as it is, two punches before a grenade plant is too long. Most people get picked off even before getting to the vehicle so two punches and a grenade gives them so much time to respond to it when we already have to catch them off guard.

I agree with almost all of these ideas. I’ll add some of my own:

Add emergency teleporters to each team’s home base. These teleporters will activate when the enemy team captures all 3 bases, so that the defending team has a chance to reclaim a base. Without these, 9 times out of 10 the attacking team will be trapped between their home base and a wall of tanks.

Randomize the bosses and their spawn locations. Imagine a match on Apex 7, at the 2 minute mark the assassin spawns in, and he immediately gets killed by some players waiting for him. Two minutes later, the Elite Ultra drops in at the beach and doesn’t even have time to fire a shot before he gets splattered by a ghost. Warzone should be mildly chaotic and present unpredictable situations, not condition players into a routine.

Modify the base-capture timer. With the way it is right now, you could have 12 spartans all huddled up in one base but if there’s even just one lone enemy spartan in the base, the capture timer completely stops. This is a problem both in Warzone and Assault, it should be made so that an attacking team can still capture a base even if enemies occupy it, but the capture timer will slow down for each enemy occupying the base. For example, if 8 blue spartans are in the fortress on stormbreak, and there are 2 red spartans hiding in the fort waiting for reinforcements, the blue team would still make progress toward capturing the base, but not nearly as fast as they normally would. If the red team has the same amount of or more players occupying the base than the blue team, then the timer should stop.

Raise the price of Spartan Laser and Plasma Pistol. There’s nothing more infuriating than spending 5-6 points on a shiny new Wraith/Scorpion only to have it get shut down or completely obliterated as soon as you go around a corner, before you can even fire a shot.

Boarding is not fine. Two punches is the right amount of time, and once it’s done, the spot will remain exposed for the next player if the first one fails. It’s simply ridiculous that a single player can eliminate a tank in seconds with no REQs. There are lots of places to hide and an armor ability that reduces radar visibility, so it’s important that supporting players have enough time to respond to threats to their teams vehicles. That’s the point of a vehicle having infantry support.

I agree with your points, specifically the vehicle boarding and Mantis suggestions. If I were to add on, another vehicle that should be buffed is the rocket hog. I would say to make it better, make the turret able to fire 1 missile at the press of the trigger, and also add more velocity to the rockets. In general, all vehicles need to be buffed somehow. They all just feel weak.

needs new bosses more than anything else, and also the boss point distribution system is absolute garbage and needs to be re-thought
