A constructive idea for 343. Please look.

Let me start off by saying that I like Halo 4 and am in no way saying that it is a bad game.

With that said, this is going to be a message to 343 Industries.
I want to speak for the community.

First off, we all know there is the spectrum of gamers. The recreational players and the competitive players. There is always a struggle between the two on how a game should go, at least now there is. There needs to be both types of players AS WELL as both types of gaming in one game. In no way should a game cater to one type of gamer, especially a First Person Shooter. It’s sort of like discrimination and it upsets people, causing a gaming company to lose possible revenue. I’ve been playing Halo since the good days of Halo 2 and have played every Halo game. I loved Halo 2 and Halo 3. Hands down my absolute favorite games. Halo is honestly the only game I truly play. So, I’ve seen the way this game has changed and all it’s been through. Halo 4 is a good game as well as 343 being a good company. They have the talent and the passion to make this game great and push it to it’s full potential.

Halo 4 already has the recreational side to it, all it needs is a good competitive side to make it great. What I am proposing is a whole new MatchMaking set up. There will be two choices, obviously being Recreational and Competitive. Once you choose the style, you have individual playlists to choose from.

Recreational will have:

-Big Team Battle
-Infinity Slayer
-Classic
-Team Objective
-Multi Team
-FFA
-Dominion
-Extraction
-Flood
-Griffball
-VIP
-Action Sack

Competitive will have:

-Team Slayer
-Classic
-Team Objective
-Team Doubles
-Team Snipers
-SWAT
-FFA

Recreational playlists will have pretty much the same setting they do now. Custom loadouts and all that good stuff. No visible ranks other than your 1-130. There will be a Join in Progress system as well. Ordinance Drops, Armor Abilities, Tactical packages, Instant Respawn for the appropriate playlist.Pretty much just how Halo 4 MatchMaking is now. The playlists will be a little different though.

Big Team Battle will not be just slayer. It will have a mix of objective games in there as well, like King of the Hill and Capture the Flag. FFA will also feature objective gametypes like Oddball and King of the Hill. Action Sack will be various gametypes revolving around just fun. Much like previous Action Sack playlists having gametypes.

Competitive playlists however will be different. There will be no custom loadouts, no armor abilities, no personal ordinance drops, anything like that. There will only be BR and DMR start with a secondary of a Magnum with 1 grenade each. There will be no join in progress system as well as no instant respawn in any of the playlists. There will be of course power weapons set on map. The only weapons that should be on the map though are: Sniper Rifles, Rocket Launchers, BRs, DMRs, Carbines, SAWs, and Swords.

Team Slayer will be of course, just slayer. Team Objective will be a mix of Oddball, King of the Hill, and Capture the Flag, Team Doubles will be 2 on 2, Team Snipers will be snipers obviously, and the FFA playlist will be similar to Lone Wolfs on Halo 3.

Team Slayer, Team Objective, and Team Snipers will be 4v4, Team Doubles will be 2v2 obviously, and the FFA will be 8 players. The 4v4 slayer playlists will go to 50 kills. 4v4 Oddball will go to 350 points. 2v2 Oddball will go to 300. 4v4 King of the Hill will go to 350 points as well and 2v2 King of the Hill will go to 300. Both 4v4 and 2v2 Capture the Flag will go to 3 caps. Team Doubles and FFA will go to 25 kills.

There will also be a 1-50 visible level for each of these playlists. The ranking system will be based on a true skill ranking system meaning that you can lose that rank if you lose games or quit. You will also be paired with players similar to your level.

That pretty much sums up the competitive playlists and section.

343, I believe this to be a very good and reasonable idea for Halo 4.
This way it gives both types of players a reason to play and it’s fun for everyone. No one if left out and everyone can play what they want to play. The recreational side of Halo loves the way Halo is pretty much aside from some small factors outside of MatchMaking. So as I said, not much would be needed there. The competitive side needs work though, and me being a long time player that has been with the competitive scene for some time now, I believe this is what the game needs to continue strong.

I know this would bring back players and satisfy everyone. With a 1-50 visible rank, it adds a HUGE incentive to play the game. It makes you want to work for something and the fact that you can lose it by not doing good, makes it an even bigger challenge. This keeps people playing. It keeps them with something to do on the game. Nothing is better than actually earning something on a game. That’s what made Halo 2 and Halo 3. You had a big reason to play. It was much harder to rank up to the highest level. You could lose that rank at any time, so you had a reason to play well. You also had that rank in multiple playlists, not just over all.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 were amazing games and I will always remember the great times I had on them. I believe the reason they were so popular and people loved playing them was because of this though. They had two sides that people could play. Recreational and Competitive. Other wise known as Social and Ranked. It kept players coming back. With a ranking system that is based on just playing, it is achieved all too easy with no real challenge. This is one of the reasons why Halo Reach failed in so many peoples eyes. I know that there is a ranking system that is 1-50 coming in April, but a visible one is what the people
want and what makes the whole point of having a rank that is based on true skill. People can see it, giving you the reason to play better.

I know that this would take planning and thinking through, but I firmly, along with many others, think that this is what is needed to bring Halo 4 up. I know that you guys are working hard for this game and want to continue Halo for what it is. I know that you guys can do it too. Just listen to us, the long time players that have been here. The ones that know the game well. Continue to work with us.

I miss the endless amounts of custom games with friends of any type. I miss the going to my friends houses and playing Halo all night. I miss when people used to actually talk to each other over Xbox Live. I miss all the random stuff people would say and do in the game. I miss the Halo I know where everyone was friends and shared the same love for a game. Lets get that back.

I’d love to experience the good times of Halo and make many more memories, just like I did with past titles.

Post your thoughts on this. I would really like this to stay up so at least one can see. I can not really see anyone disagreeing with this, no matter which side you are on.

EDIT:
Recreational and Competitive classic playlists have been added. Details in comments.
Added Multi-Team and VIP as well.
Added SWAT.

It’s definitely a good set up. I like the way you think.
You don’t think Competitive should deserve more automatic love than a SAW? I’m sure there are plenty of players like myself who rely on the automatics in close-range engagements.
The starting DMR may be twisting the arm a bit, because hardly anyone will not use it in lieu of extra power. It’s definitely good as a spawn point, because of its attention it will receive for a few minutes of power.

Oh, and this should be in the Matchmaking forum. Just a hint.

Like I said, it would take some thinking.
I definitely think the SAW should be in there though on certain maps.
Maybe an AR start as well with the BR and DMR?

I agree with it all.Well done. However there should also be a competitive BTB as well since its a very important aspect of Halo. The competitive players also love vehicle gameplay due to the amount of team effort you would need to win.Vehicles like the chaingun warthog promotes teamwork so it would go very well with competitive playlists. The gauss hog can be a bit much even in infinity BTB, so best not to have it.The rest is more or less obvious i think so i wont bother mentioning it.

I like this guy.

One thing I might add would be a “Classic” Version of Gametypes (without DMR) in loadouts. Check my fileshare, I have several already made.

Good point. I just didn’t think to mention it because of there being no ranked BTB in previous games. I wouldn’t mind it though to be honest. Of course though certain things would be taken out, like the Gauss Warthog.

Good idea!
I didn’t think about that.

I really like these ideas, but think about some other good gametypes that would probably be a good idea for the recreational and competitive types. Big Team Invasion/Dominion. These probably won’t be added in this game but some ideas for each would be:
Dominion:
three to five bases on larger maps, 12 v 12 Falcons/Hornets, hogs, tanks, banshee goodness. Game loadouts so vehicle play isn’t discouraged.

Invasion: 12 v 12, similar to Reach’s version just longer. You can have Elites in multi because we are still allied with the arbiter as far as I know, 2 objectives per round 3-4 rounds would definitely be fun on some larger maps.

Of course these would need a larger player cap so not added in 4 but these would definitely be fun. It would still require teamwork to succeed but on a larger scale.

The dual perspective campaign with the Arbiter and Chief like in two so we can get some insight into the covenant as well. Spartan Ops evolving into a Reach like story (in engine cutscenes where your team’s models are featured) and longer missions. It should really focus on your team and the impact they have on the story.

Also some sandbox additions that could definitely be added on top of what you already said:
Bring back all the weapons featured in past Halos, they don’t need to be a part of the loadout options, give them the same damage settings and let the community decide which to use.
Bring back the vehicles featured in the shooter series because we need more options for vehicles. 8 vehicles and only one of them is a partly a transport is just silly.

I leave you with this:
Imagine you and your team flying in to forge world on two fully loaded falcons while a pair of friendly broadswords race over head, when you look down and see a covie counterpart of the falcon covered by banshees move to reinforce their positions next to the entrance to the big cave. The falcons break off to tackle the same objectives one lands on the cliffside, and the other on the beach. 3 Spartans pile out with their gear in tow and the spartan ai pilots with their gunners take off to await their call for evac at the end of the round. Game time, you, your team and a list of objectives to complete time to get to work Spartans.

No ctf?

I like the idea of ranked and social playlists like in halo 3 but I don’t necessarily agree with your playlist selections and options. I also don’t think it would bring many people back at all, the damage has been done.

Sorry, but I disagree. I am a veteran player, but not a competitive one. I always play in a team just for fun.
Lots of people seem to believe that non-competitive players accept and like 343’s ideas (Loadouts, ordnances,…). In my case, those ideas have made me stop playing the game, because Halo is so altered, so unbalanced, that my friends and I can’t enjoy it. We cannot play Halo the way we used to.
The only way to have us back is having classic Halo again in social playlists. We could accept AA, but nothing more.

Added classic playlists for Recreational and Competitive.

The recreational classic playlist will have no instant respawn, but will have a Join in Progress system. There will be no Personal Ordnance. It will be a mix of slayer and objective games. Predominantly slayer, but a mix of CtF, Oddball, and KoTH. It will be 4v4 with two different gametypes for slayer. Regular Team Slayer, which will be AR and Magnum start and then Team BRs, which will obviously be BR start and Magnum. All objective gametypes will be BR start. Will have no rank to the side, other than your 1-130.

The competitive classic playlist will have no instant respawn and no Join in Progress system. There will be no Personal Ordnance. It will be a mix of slayer and objective games. Predominantly slayer, but a mix of CtF, Oddball, and KoTH. It will be 4v4 with two different gametypes for slayer. Regular Team Slayer, with be AR and Magnum start and then Team BRs, which will obviously be BR start with Magnum. All objective gametypes will be BR start. It will have a 1-50 rank visible like the other competitive playlists.

Added a Multi-Team playlist and a VIP playlist for Recreational.

Multi-Team will be 6 different teams consisting of 2 players per team, much like Halo 3 Multi-Team. Team colors would be Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Purple, and Orange.
Personal Loadouts will be used, and there will be Personal Ordnance. There will be Instant Respawn and a Join in Progress system. There will be a mix of slayer and objective gametypes. The only objective gametypes involved will be Oddball and KoTH. Slayer will go to 50 kills. Oddball and King of the Hill will go to 300 points.

The VIP playlist will be Rocket race. 6 different teams consisting of 2 players per team. Team colors will be Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Purple, and Orange. There will be no Personal Ordnance, for the only weapon you will have is a Rocket Launcher. There will be only one way to kill someone, which will be by assassination. There will be Instant Respawn and a Join in Progress system. The only vehicle will be a mongoose, and vehicles are indestructible. One player on the team will be the driver, while the other is the VIP. Each team will need to drive their VIP to the destination marked on the map. The first one to the destination earns one point. The destination is then changed. First team to 15 points wins the game. It will pretty much stay true to Halo 3 VIP/Rocket race.

Should be ar/magnum start with all precision and power weapons throughout the map. Unless its slayer brs or dmrs which could be modes. Like how throwdown has slayer brs

> Should be ar/magnum start with all precision and power weapons throughout the map. Unless its slayer brs or dmrs which could be modes. Like how throwdown has slayer brs

Which playlist?

Classic playlist I would suppose

I do miss Big Team Battle from the Halo 3 days when it had CTF this one needs to return so we can have more chaos of flag kills and flag defending. =)

> Classic playlist I would suppose

It is like that.
In both Recreational and Competitive classic playlists, there is a mix between regular Team Slayer and Team BRs. Regular Team Slayer would be AR/Magnum start while Team BRs is BR/Magnum start. There would be power weapons on the maps such as the Sniper Rifle, Sword, Rocket Launcher, etc. That’s what I said for both of them.

Unless you are suggesting it should be solely AR/Magnum start.

I miss it too, that was so fun when taking a break from MLG and Doubles.
CtF on Sandtrap was great, along with Standoff.

Standoff and Sandtrap were great on those but I encountered problems on these particular maps when I had a team that did nothing but stand there, Betraying like crazy, On the other hand I really enjoyed it for Vahalla everybody was doing a part in helping in protecting the flag while some of the team tired to retrieve the other teams flag.

I think that is what was so great about gameplay in terms of maps for Halo 2 and Halo 3. The majority of them were symmetrical.
I honestly miss Last resort too.
Narrows and Pit were my favorite maps for CtF though.
