I feel like all of this arguing on the forums is tearing the Halo community to shreds. I think it would be a good idea if instead of arguing over who is right or wrong, we should join together once more and come up with a compromise to the biggest problem. The commonly argued over progression system. I’d like to see what ideas we come up with without going for each other’s throats.
100 xp a game, 150 for a win. I don’t think that’s asking a lot tbh.
There shouldn’t be a compromise. Other games have career progression modes that have cosmetic unlocks and rank unlocks in addition to battlepasses.
The MP NEVER should have left brainstorming without a career progression system.
Ok, hold on already. This post isn’t for forcing your own wants onto others, we’re supposed to talk like actual civilized beings. Calm down if someone says something that is the opposite of what you want and hear them out.
Make the battlepass a straight cash purchase with no tier skips, add cr to the battlepass and make it obtainable at a rate of 25 per win and 5 per loss (only if they own the bp or full game), add a progression system.
This is all they have to do to fix it, give players incentive to grind the battlepass without having people buy their way through it, and give passive cr to paying players so they dont feel pike they are being forced to crack the wallet open for armour that would have been free in any other halo game, while still have the avenue for whales to spend as much as they see fit on cr without having to grind
+50xp per game
+25xp per win
+1% of score per match (which will be a bonus of 20+xp for playing well)
Capstone Challenges are unlocked at the end of the week for everyone who didn’t complete the weeklies and persist indefinitely.
@HotNWetMess @Rethal_Sepsis So far we have a good middle ground for credits and xp. Do you think it would be better to have 100 xp per match or the 50xp + 25xp win bonus? I personally feel like the 50 + 25 win bonus might encourage player participation during matches, which would be good.
100xp per match, there need to be a solid baseline xp for the game, add say 15xp extra for a win
Yeah, that could work as well. I think just any win bonus works for player participation. It would give them motivation.
Just an additional 15 XP for a win doesn’t encourage people to play together or the objective. If the current challenges are still in place, it’ll still encourage the same type of behavior we’re already seeing where people throw and leave matches to complete challenges.
A win bonus is definitely needed, especially if when not only the challenges (correct me if they’ve been fixed) but the achievements as well promote playing other than winning.
The problem arises with the fact that this battlepass was designed to be grindy on purpose, so no fix is going to 100% fix it because of the way its designed, if you add too much win xp then theyll just crank the number of xp needed to level up higher, it really feels like we cant win here but something needs to be done
I think the problem with 100/match is that 343i won’t like it. It’s too much. It’s too easy to rank up, once you add everything on top of it. I also think the additional half for winning makes winning all that much more important. And if you are also getting a bonus for your personal score, you can easily get over 100 per win - I regularly score 300, my system would make that a neat 105. More if I do better.
If it takes 1,000xp to level up right now, it shouldn’t take near 1,000 matches to get to max level. It’s just a lot of levels to get through. I think it should take 800 or so xp to level up, just so that it saves almost 2 matches a level for the people that don’t have the time to play that much. Plus, those saved matches would stack up fast. At level 100, you would have saved nearly 200 matches. That’s still a lot, but not nearly as many. I’m going off of untested estimations that I am just doing in my head, so don’t be mad if the estimations are off.
Yeah, leveling up at just the right rate is a difficult thing to get to. It’s usually too fast or too slow.
The rate of progression is the real issue, you’re right. Only gaining 2-3 levels after hours of play isn’t fun.
They should either:
A) Reduce XP requirements at lower levels and make the end tiers require more so it ramps up like a traditional ranking system where you get a lot of stuff right off the bat then have to grind out the really nice stuff at the end.
B) Reduce the cost of all tiers and just add 50-100 additional ranks of just filler items, swaps, boosts, whatever. This way you still gain multiple levels for your effort which feeds that instant gratification itch, but the overall time the pass takes to complete remains the same.
The free track also needs some love. I think I saw someone post that you don’t even get a helmet on the free track until like 85 or something like that.
Yeah the free track is a joke, its all challenge swaps and chest pieces until level 80
I remember seeing that the free track was 90% challenge skips and was pretty surprised. I feel like they could change a few of those with xp boosts and coatings and armor. Reserve the attachments, some more coatings, and the effects for the premium pass.
This is my issue. The progression was deliberately designed to be as frustrating as humanly possible, so I don’t think there will ever be a truly rewarding experience under the current system.
They have to go back to the drawing board and rework their progression system from the ground-up, and each change they make can have a profound effect on the way the entire player base plays the game.
If they started with something more reasonable, I’d have more optimism, but the fact that they thought this restrictive, unfair, overpriced nightmare system was okay speaks volumes for how little they think of us.
343 is very dependent on us, and they make these games for us Halo fans. They just went about doing it in a way that very few people liked, which is the problem.
