You my fellow Halo friend… are a genius!!
Helps that we have a FTP game with an example of a system like this, its called Warframe.
I don’t mind the coatings look but some freedom here is needed but if such a thing was to be added ite be post launch as they’d have to desgin the system and test it and fix issues that may pop up so would it happen it might but not right awa
This system is honestly a really good idea. Great customization, still a decent monetization strategy in selling the color make-up. I personally think 343 could also sell some of the Fractures armor and holiday stuff since that is pretty isolated from the rest of customization to help make up the difference.
But I love this. My only change could be that chest armor attachments also take the torso color or a different depending on the coating. Help add more color continuity instead of just… grey.
I like that, something that could also Improve the customization experience is that the shoulder pieces from the kits we unlock are also given just like the helmets and the chest peices.
Please forgive me if I may have missed any details. I’ve got the ol’ post work sleepy eyes.
But this idea is great! Also great job on the menu layout as well! Everything is intuitive and works how you’d imagine it to, if it were in the game. If I had to make an addition, though, I’d say add in a way to make asymmetrical color ways as well. For example, maybe you want a different color left pauldron and different color right pauldron. The combinations would be endless, and truly give every spartan a sense of uniqueness on the battlefield!
This idea is a 10/10 for me!
I absolutely love this idea. It combines what 343 is doing with what Halo has always been. I’d be glad to spend money to really tweak aspects of my Spartan’s armor while also retaining the familiar customization options we have all grown accustomed to.
@343 this is what you should do, this idea to purchase a specific color option to enable in detail customization is along the lines of the main selling point of the game for me and many others, it is the main reason I have been exited to play halo infinite along with the classic artstyle returning.
I would pay to have a system like this. Please 343 give us the color options!
I see folks saying that they would pay for customization like the one the OP outlined - but this his a basic function we never had to pay for since Halo 3. There’s been how many Halo games with that feature? And now we have to pay for it?
Lame.
What I want is close to what you’re saying but with the addition of being able to use all armor types across armor cores (possibly excluding the tenari one). I also do want the armor coatings to start off with the clean color version that the HCS themes utilize instead of this warn out battle tested color.
Yeah the chest attachments being grey looks fine but it is annoying when you can only wish it was your Spartan’s base color
I agree.
Though OP’s idea is great and would be extremely welcome, the coating system and it’s individual colours aren’t currently coded in this way.
Case in point, the bottom segments of Blue Rampage and Platinum Anniversary, are Yellow and Green respectively.
You would expect that this bottom colour would apply to the same area of the the Spartan…but they don’t.
What you would expect to be Green on the PA coating is actually Grey!
This means that the placement of colours on the coating icon, don’t have anything to do with the colour placement on the Spartan.
Knowing this, OP’s suggestion suddenly seems like a lot more work to implement.
Also, 343 can currently sell us multiple coatings with the same pattern, but with different colours. Sucks I know, but that’s how it’s looking.
For instance, Scarlet Wake is mostly Red with Steel accents. They can totally use the same pattern to make Red with White accents, and make another $10.
Giving us full control of colours would stop 343 doing this, and would undoubtably cut into their current and future revenue stream, which is probably why they will never go for it.
I personally think the far quicker solution would to, as you say, be able to apply seperate coatings to seperate armour pieces.
While this wouldn’t give us the full colour control, it would give us a hell of a lot more options, AND it wouldn’t effect the current unlocks and sales of existing and future coatings.
EVERYBODY WINS….even if it’s only a bit.
This is practically the system I’ve been talking about with my gaming group. Great work putting it into a easy to understand visual form! Thank you!
I absolutely agree that this system would be an amazing upgrade. Honestly, with how they’re really selling us on the fact that our Multiplayer Spartan is going to be an integral part of the franchise (it seems), whether big or small, you’d think they’d allow for such customization one day, sooner rather than later.
Totally agree that this is what 343 should be shooting for. The current skins are way overpriced, especially when you can’t use the textures or colours with other armour cores. It just feels gougey and so cheap. Of course the game is FTP, and nobody needs to spend money on cosmetics, the current system will turn people away to other games with a way to earn premium currency in-game.
So funny enough, the only 2 customization options I want more than any of this. 1. A way to change the intro Stance. What’s the point of having qeapon skins when you can show it off to whole team? Lol. 2. I really want a way to show off my Ranked match ranks. I’m almost Onyx and I hate that it’s limited to side of weapon that literally nobody else can see lol. Why can’t I put it on my chest or jave it as an emblem?
This mock up is a glorious saving of the terrible coating system, and would actually SUCCEED at the idea of Player Expression, unlike what we currently have.
While I’m of the firm belief that colour customisation should never have been paywalled from the start, this concept is eons more flexible and consumer-friendly than the current farcical coatings system.
I presume this system could be expanded to accommodate vehicles, yes? If so, sign me up.
This is an amazing idea. Full support, I would pay for stuff like glowing color palettes or unique camo patterns and such. I just want to be orange and white again.
