I LOVE this idea, and have thought of this myself. I have come to enjoy some of the armor coatings that 343i have come up with thus far, but most of the time they aren’t fully satisfying, because they aren’t the exact look I want for each of my armor cores. I SO miss the ability to just choose the 2 colors I want on my Spartan that you have the default option for in every previous game (except CE). The Fractured and the Rakshasa armor cores are really hurting for more coloring options right now. I think that some of the pre-existing coatings should be made customizable as well, but your idea BakaStep is reasonable enough. I’m sure there are plenty of players that enjoy the premade coating options as they are and don’t want to customize further.
I play Destiny 2 a lot as well, and I think this whole coating idea is based on what Bungie has done with their shaders. I also wish that the shaders in Destiny could be customizable as well, but at least you can apply a different shader to each of the 5 pieces of armor as well as weapons to make things more unique for your Guardians.
Please 343i make this idea a reality!!! I really want to have a purple and green Spartan again! Also having the option to change the pattern/texture, is a really cool idea!

is basically the idea I’ve seen echoed by every Halo fan since this game came out, and the GUI for it looks great. I have to wonder if 343i (or rather, Microsoft) anticipated the backlash but figured they’d make more money despite our frustation. Because I find it hard to believe they thought any fan would be ok with the system they launched with.
It’s insane how they also refuse to address this. All we honestly want is the ability to earn/ buy materials, patterns and color pallets to customize our own and 343 curate coatings.
It’s honestly not that big, and if you think they’d loose revenue, remember, not many people are buying from the store as It is
You can call it armor mode just like forge mode ! where players can get creative with their own armors surprised we are having to ask for this as it would of been a natural progression from forge mode ?
This is not a good business model that 343i have chosen its actual destructive to the franchise which make you wonder what’s acutely going on here at 343i !!
Why on earth would you take the creative opportunity’s away from the consumer surely as producers you should know, at the heart of any great game is that sense of control in a shared creative environment!
If one cant express their creation then unfortunately your left with a game that’s not going to be timeless or interesting and satisfying enough to wanna invest your time and money .
For myself and many others this game is far from expectation and is in need of some real love and attention to detail also the business model for halo need to be redesigned as its not very smart nor organic .
2 biggest things that need to be changed and i am giving this advise for free! lol haha is to change the way you score points and get rif of kd system and give people the full access to Their vison ie creation of skins and colors etc. you can call it armor mode and you can access this through forge mode .
Either way I’m always going to be a dedicated halo fan/Player and maybe that’s the problem here !

I mean, speak for yourself, because I am absolutely asking for 343i to replace the current system. “Let’s expand players’ options by giving them a bunch of slots to work with and then nothing to fill them with unless they’re active and have money at just the right time.”
Like, the transition to Destiny-style shaders was bad enough, but hiding all the good stuff behind paywalls AND timewalls is just outright mean-spirited.

It would be nice to be able to edit the colors as well as the textures.
I think this was a missed opportunity on 343’s part.

I’d personally like to be able to pay a flat fee for the use of a customization tool that allows full control of texters on the armor and then id pay a fee to 343 to be able to submit and publish my own armor coatings and whatnot. wouldnt that be incredible?

YES! 343 promised us the ability to create our “dream spartan.” Their words. I feel unable to do this because of the lack of a basic feature; color customization. I’m not opposed to pay for control over colors, and I absolutely love the ability to control texture, battle damage. I absolutely hate the current system of paying anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars for a coating.
I get that it is subjective. Some people really like the coatings, cool. I personally don’t find any of the color combinations attractive. I feel very unable to achieve that “self expression” they talked about without the ability to have control over this basic feature.

They could have easily copied Anthems or adopted aspect,
Every player starts with the 60 default colors we had in Halo 5… For armor, weapons Vehicles Banners and emblems.
Than Ayers can purchase coatings for those that were just overlays on their existing color pallet… Some covered the whole armor some only cover some aspect of the armor leading to a way more diverse set of Color customization options where even two Spartans with the same.coating would not look Identical.

you can create your dream spartan… If your credit limit is high enough.
I have another idea to add on to this. I think that 343 should create 1 coating that can be customizable, and the colors and textures you can use come from the coatings that each player currently has purchased/unlocked. So when a player starts out it would just be the basic coating colors you get to use, and when you unlock new coatings through the store or battle pass/campaign progression, you have the elements of those new coatings (colors, textures, patterns) become available for your customizable armor coating.
They could even make it so you start by choosing an armor coating as a layout and you get to only change the colors/textures/patterns of that layout design, if allowing any part/surface of the armor model to be changed is more complex than 343 is willing to do.
This would allow 343i the continue there creative expression through designing new coatings for everyone to enjoy, but also empower the player to design their own creation using what has been unlocked. It would also still allow 343i to earn all the $ they want thru selling the coatings, while at the same time satisfying the player base that want full coating design control. And yeah some of the player creations could be hideous on purpose, or they could be even more incredibly awesome than what 343 has been putting out thus far.
And now with the release of Forge mode and all the crazy customizable options they give the players through that editor, it makes even more sense to give the player coating customization. Make it happen 343 for Season 3!
