A Compromis That Works for Everyone... Armor Coating Customization Feedback / Suggestion

Can they rank a pure slayer playlist,?

I had literally logged in to put this suggestion online. One of the things that has most impressed me in a game was the way that Halo: Reach put our customised characters into the cut scenes. This really drew me into the game and made me feel much more invested in the story and, in turn, kept me coming back. I think that if we were given full control of the armour coating wheel we’d be able to fully personalise our Spartans. The special coating effects \ palettes (metallic, wood, camouflage, neons etc) could still be sold as they currently are but we’d be more able to individualise our characters and I, for one, would be much more inclined to spend cash decking out my Spartan. At the moment I haven’t spent anything on coatings (I’m still rocking the Yellow Recruit coating) as the ones offered are locked on a 343 employee’s idea of how they think the armour should look, none of which tally with mine.

I just want my spartan to be green and red is it really too much to freaking ask for 343?

Yes !!! It would be great . I hate Yoroi armor so I don’t take anything from events that are just for him.

Im tired of waiting to have my spartan have white armor, and I feel like switching my armor to be Yellow.

I really hope 343 are keeping an eye on the popularity of this post and overall idea is getting. Fingers crossed for some/all implementation of this :crossed_fingers:

I really would literally be satisfied waiting however long they needed to take to perfect forge and the other things they are working on to make sure they get right before releasing… if they would just add a ranked doubles playlist. Even if they needed to later update the playlist it would be just a game changer to have an even unperfected version of it to play and they could fix any problems with it as we go. They can take however long on the other stuff but the doubles playlist isn’t that hard and definitely should have been in the game day one. We shouldn’t have to wait longer for it, and many won’t continue to wait for it. It’s a different form of Halo and it’s to simple to add to continue neglecting the fans who grew up loving this style of halo. It’s very repulsive to fans to have to wait this long for doubles w no hope of it’s ranked return, on top of all the other stuff we are trying to be patient about.

Great and common sense suggestion OP. The core system is bad because it heavily limits customization. Even when they implement cross core armor selection, the variety just isn’t there.

The answer seems obvious to me; use the MCC Halo 3 system of armor.

  • undersuit
  • legs
  • forearms
  • chest
  • shoulders seperate pieces
  • helmet
  • visor
  • various accessories

Currently one can only change helmet and shoulders apart from accessories. Additionally there are few armor pieces available for each core even with overpriced store items.

The reason Armor Coatings worked in destiny is because they had a crazy amount of armor coatings at no cost and it allowed for early customization through just the coatings. The problem with Halo is there are so few of them to begin with and the only way to earn more is through the weekly challenges or the battlepass. So everything ends up choosing the same most recent coating.

I suggest giving everyone all the basic colors on all armor cores. Then make a ton of armor coatings and make challenges for how to get them. i.e. get 10 sniper kills in one game or something like that. and it gives you a new coating.

The way you differentiate the legendary ones from the standard is how clean you want to make it or unique you want to make it and how hard the challenge is to get it allows for more people playing the game and trying for new armour cores.

I know that I’m in a small percentage of the community here, however I did get to SR152 in Halo 5. I’m a bit frustrated that the Watchdog coating is not available on the new Armor Cores. The new cores are interesting, but if the coating is walled off from separate cores then all the armor and items earned for the cores this season are not worth anything to me.

Yes bro agreed on that man they need to keep this game alive

As someone who typically has no interest in purchasing cosmetics, and currently would not even consider the BP with the existing system, this change would make me much more likely to spend additional money on Infinite.

This newly proposed system was my exact gut reaction when I first started playing Infinite, and I couldn’t understand why 343 didn’t anticipate that the community at large would clamor for it. Most of the "customization” 343 bragged about pre-launch is locked behind the BP and store, and even then is basically just canned permutations that you have no control over. I have been playing since CE and I have never been more disinterested in customizing my armor and symbol.

Just chiming in, since there is too many posts than I’m willing to read I’m going to list my ideal scenario/compromises that would make the core color system customization better. Sorry for any overlap!

I think an elegant but certainly dev heavy and technical solution would be a sort of “coating crafting system”. It is clear that Halo Infinite was designed with coatings in mind, and ONLY coatings in mind, so breaking up the armor colors ad hoc simply won’t work like in prior entries.

What I propose is a coating crafting system that has unlockables, similar to Rocket League. These unlockables would encompass a variety of customization features such as: Zone Template, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and, lighting, and undersuit “zones”. The ‘Zone Template’ would determine how the primary, secondary, and tertiary customization zones are arranged and would likely be specific to each core. Then each zone would have it’s own subset of options such as pattern, color/material, and finish. Once satisfied with the custom coating, the coating could then be ‘crafted’ as a custom coating item so that you could still switch between 343i provided coatings and your custom coating with the click of a button.

The coating system is cool because it promises extensive customization we previously never had (like camo, metallic, high gloss, etc) but is limiting in terms of color combinations that are preset by 343i. It was naive of them to think a finite amount of coatings would satisfy the community when we’ve had color customization for the last 20 years.

I need my mid-gray and orange coating back! And again, I think Rocket League’s approach is something that would satisfy the conundrum of multiple cores since their system has to be compatible with all cars. This would also allow increased customization for fracture cores that have significantly less options available to both free and paying players.

What are your thoughts?

TLDR: Craft custom coatings using a system similar to Rocket League.

I think that would be absoluterly perfect. Give me a base and let me have different colors that I could play with from there. I miss my faded black armor with purple and lime green accents i had in Halo 3. That Spartan was mine. I loved spending hours just messing around in the customization menu, with differnt armors I’ve unlocked and a large range of colors to play with. I’m the type of person who likes to sit there and come up with something one of kind. I love seeing what other people come up with and playing around with colors and armors they used. It gave us that personal touch we all loved with our Spartans. Halo 3 had it right. It was like 3$ for a different color wheel and I’d gladly pay some cash to make something that i sat down for a few hours and messed with. Or adding challenges to the open world game to unlock colors and armors. Something like that will keep me around for a long time. So 343i, bring it back, pwease. Sometimes its the little things that can really make people happy with Halo. You gave us an open world with Infinte, let us have an Infinite customization

I agree. So from what I’m understanding in the idea is more or less “Frankenstein-ing” your own personal armor coat, that would be gorgeous!

-1: from what I understand as well, you use armor coatings you already possess colors/textures to use for your own armor coating.

-2: also a “part selector” where you can select individual armor parts/tech-suit sections to texture or color where you are able to make the Spartans colors asymmetrical if you wanted to.

Two armor coatings that show colors/textures on their own are the “cascade clay armor coating” and the “willow tea” armor coating.

The sauce for those armor coatings lmao

“Willow tea” willow tea sports a warn white as its main color, with hits of gold or orange accents on the armor. The tech suit of willow tea has a very soft black texture, some sections of the tech suit have white spots or even white flowers on the tech suit making it very elegant in its own right. (All in all this coating shows difference in textures and colors but still has a very symmetrical design)

“Cascade clay” mainly sports a light sea foam blue white bright white accents. The right arm is orange. Another difference is in the gloves. The left hand glove is black with blue accents. But the left hand glove is silver with an orange accents. Another thing To note is the tech suit has a mix or a rough black texture and a semi-gloss silver accents most noticeable on the shoulders and waist. (All in all this coating also shows texture difference with a asymmetrical style to it as well)

So in theory, having that editor, if you wanted to you could throw armor coatings together with your hearts content. You could make it symmetrical, you could make it asymmetrical, you could even make your spartan look like it was colored by a toddler! Honestly back in the older halo games I loved seeing the really goofy colors schemes people chose! Nothings scarier than a guy in bright purple/pink accents dressed as Jorge charging you in infection on halo 5 XD! But it also shows creativity. 343I FIX COATINGS PLZ!!! MAKE IT MEME-ABLE LMAO!

Yes, I agree with this one. I wanted to write off on a topic. This is basically what Warframe does, and I think it’s a wonderful idea and 343 should listen to this feedback. I understand they developed this game based on coatings and cross-core, but we got that it’s not the best way for Halo.

We’ve already seen them reusing patterns and even if you look at the yoroi armor all the coatings are the same base pattern. I’ve seen one or two coatings that are actually unique. Allowing the player base to work it’s own colors patterns and textures people have been screaming about since thet announced this horrid system.

Before I continue ranting I want to say I agree with you, sorry if it comes off otherwise.

Warframe and Anthem (they should’ve doubled down on Anthem rather then dissecting the teams for Dead space/DA4) have the BEST color option systems. Anthem even had a color wheel to accurately hit the color values YOU want.

Warframe just released the voidshell armors that have texture patterns for now. The system that has been suggested here would allow for true individuality AND allow for pinpoint clan colors and textures.

Furthering this thought they need to put in an actual catelouge of all customization options, not some horrible the 4 piece store front. So far everything in this games design is just as predatory if not more than Fortnites storefront, but AT LEAST Fortnite let’s you pick n choose. Hell even dauntless let’s you do that.
