A Compromis That Works for Everyone... Armor Coating Customization Feedback / Suggestion

I know we’re all supposed to criticize gently and “be nice” by not say that their system isn’t unique or interesting in any way and what you’re suggesting is just outright better and it would eliminate the purpose of their trash “unique” system, but it’s the truth, they should remove the restrictions on armor colors and materials

I like this idea a lot. There’s gotta be some sort of basic customization option for players rather than everyone running around with the same skins. This is by far THE BEST Halo game of all-time but I’m a 40 y/o gaming version of Clint Eastwood in Gran Turino. I’ll happily neglect myself joy and stop playing to prove a point if that’s what it comes to. Your move 343, great work on the game though.

Bumping this. Its absolutely phenomenal and I’d have much more of a blast with this idea.

This is the perfect compromise in my opinion! I’d definitely be open to paying for the patterns or qualities if I could add my personal colors onto it. Please do this 343!

Unfortunately in the campaign you only get colors or charms. At this time it’s unconfirmed weather or not you get armor pieces. For now the data miners only retrieved information showing the loot crates around the map only drop colors. It’s somewhere on reddit.

That… fml lol. If they did that then they shouldn’t charge for patterns/textures/palettes. Man I really feel like they’re shooting themselves in the foot.

The system I would rather have is where players can choose the color of any of their individual armor pieces for free full stop. Any monetized coatings would be designs that we could not make with such a system. There are sooo many designs to choose from. There is no reason that we could not make such a system. Players would not feel forced to buy armor colors, and therefore would feel more willing to purchase the armor coatings

This would be a great system , hopefully something like this gets worked into the game at some point.

Adding my part to this thread, because we NEED this implemented.

how much of a waste is that, really, to have made this outline system so we can identify teams without having Spartans being painted entirely red or blue, only to have us all bear the same dozen of coatings or so (yes I know there are much more in the game, but basically everyone uses the same ones).
How much of a waste is that, to have the system allow us to change the color of the tiniest part, only to have someone choose what color it will to what could be one of the most limiting system possible?

This has already been said but this coating system really is a counterincentive to actually spend money. Color is literally the first thing you see on a character. Does it matter if you have to sweet sweet Aviator helmet when you have the exact same comhination of metallic tan, orange and red as three other spartans in the game?
I have never spent a dime on any kind of battlepass, or anything really, on any free game… But I’d buy the premium battlepass, seriously, if I could really use the color system OP described up there. This, or anything else, really, just not something as restrictive as the current coating system.

Just wanna chip in and say that I support this.
Just wanna point out that players who bought anything with an armor coating should be refunded or compensated in some way if the system is changed a lot.

daily bump for this as this is THE best solution offered so far.

I’m glad this topic is being kept alive somewhat. I just hope the feedback on customization and monetization doesn’t become forgotten over time. I’d hate to see the current system become the norm for the next 10 years. I don’t kmow if I’ll stick around. We can’t even choose our own game mode let alone colors.

I really like this idea! When the first media was being shared, I thought armor coatings pertained to patterns and material type that would apply over the normal colors we picked just like we always have. I was very disappointed to see how they implemented this system.

I feel like the colors currently available for the cadet choices would make excellent basic unlocks for us to assign to the individual channels. While more specialized shades and tints could be tied to achievements/progression. The MTX portion could be material types (matte, chrome, etc) and patterns (various military style camo, abstracts, decals, etc) I would happily pay for materials and patterns that would allow me to keep my color palette of choice. Waiting for the exact color/material/pattern combo to show up is frustrating and makes me not want to engage at all.

I agree. They should at minimum get access to the colors/materials/color-areas used in the coatings they bought.

Yeah, this is a good idea. Not being able to choose my own colour scheme sucks.

There’s a big problem on that suggestion that has to do with the system the whole organization planned on the Halo infinite scheme.
Coatings are already in store, and probably much of that is ready to either be sold or obtained through gameplay or challenges, such as weekly ones.

For whatever reason, like in Halo 5, the first color palette was very reduced in comparison to Halo 3 or 4, or the new palette that took its place on Halo 5.
It could seem logical that wasn’t a good approach, neither this one on coatings, but this time, 343 is tied.

Back again, from a point of view, if you were willing to buy a single texture just for customization, why wouldn’t one be willing to buy the entire coating with some extras if it’s “done and more complete”, let alone the price.
Even if the answer is for personal customization, the value for adquisition is not enough.
This also binds one, 'cause instead of getting single textures until one is satisfied, one have to keep buying coatings for diversity, because nothing will feel as personal.

Even if 343 is aware of this, coatings on rewards and store are probably already scheduled.

Hope the fact that the meaning of “Beta” brings a possibility of something like what you suggest, or as time passes this gets and update, but same as prices, battle pass and store, it’s a thing to make everyone agree.

Buying a single texture as opposed to buying a coatint is more benefitting because you have the option to mix and match rather than be stuck with whatever the coating gives you. I say keep the system that they have with coatings but include this as an addition so players have the best of both.

It would mean that that coating would be have a different selection of colorable regions than other coatings. Some people might feel that makes it less unique. Others might be happy that they now have more control over the coating they unlocked. All and all though, I think more people will be happy with this type of change than not.

It’s not just for personalization. I have a few color schemes I like, my favorite for reach armor was purple and pink. There have been any coatings with that combination in the store, battle pass, weeklies, or in the leaked battle pass content. If 343 released a coating with those colors there’s a good chance I’d buy it. But why should I have to wait for who knows how long (if ever) to get colors I like? They talk about how coatings allow for more customization, but it’s really more customization for them, and if they don’t like the colors you like, then you can’t get your colors at all with the current system.
