A compiled list of generalized feedback seen repeatedly, consistently, and I believe myself

So it’s been a hot minute since I’ve actually seen a compiled list of some of the changes people want to see in infinite, and I decided it’d probably be a good time for one. So what I’ve done is tried to make a list of general feedback from several different platforms, like Facebook, twitter, reddit, and even the forums here, and I’ve tried to keep it limited down to 5 per category, so feel free to add to it in the replies, or add your own thoughts.
Note these items will not be listed in any particular order, and the importance of each item listed will vary.
To jump right in to the deep end here goes:

Topic 1: MTX/Microtransactions.

  1. The most consistent consensus about MTX/microtransactions: The prices are still ridiculous even after the ‘price cut’ we’ve seen. Single items in the store should be priced around 250-350 credits(Not 700, looking at you firefall), while smaller bundles should be priced around 500-750 with larger bundles being priced at around 750-1000.(Personally I think the 1000 price tag is still ridiculous given that’s the price of the battlepass, but I wouldn’t be overtly offended by that)

  2. Items purchased via MTX should be usable, without needing to spend more money just to be able to use the item(s) you already just bought. (Namely items like hazop, where if you buy hazop from the shop, you still can’t even use it if you haven’t additionally purchased the battlepass.)

  3. Remove the FOMO system that has been put in place, and replace it with a store layout like a catalogue with all store items present. Obviously that is a big task, but it’s something that needs to be done. Additionally, the main store page should be used as a “Deals of the week” type of deal, where certain items go on sale, or new items are highlighted.

  4. Add a way for players to earn in game currency just by playing the game or doing well. Even if it’s only 25-50 credits at a time, allowing players to have that option will make the MTX feel less sleazy and more player friendly. -This will be continued in section 2

  5. Make store items like armor, special weekly ultimate rewards, for completing very difficult achievements/tasks, DON’T make ultimate rewards store items for ridiculous prices. (This ones a bit more personal, but Ske7ch recently made some tweets/tweet replies stating he is of the mind that purchased items should never be earnable for free, where as he thinks earnable items like the weekly ultimate rewards should be made purchasable after some time… That is seriously backwards in my opinion). Earnable rewards should be earnable, with multiple recurring chances to earn them if not unlimited opportunity to earn them, where as players should NOT have items forever locked behind a paywall, and FOMO. An example of this is the bleached bone armor coating being locked to a 1200-2000 credit bundle when the only item a player wants is the armor coating, meanwhile the player is left wondering if they’ll ever even be given the option of buying it again because of the store rotation. Obviously if the fomo is fixed it becomes less of an issue overall but still isn’t ideal.

On that note lets move on to subject 2!

Subject 2: Challenges, and ultimate rewards

  1. Challenges should be more broad, but less vague, meaning they should not be tied to random chance type playlists. The way the current challenge system is set up is detrimental to the over all play experience, given it’s randomized nature, and it being the only way to progress.

  2. A PVE/Campaign challenge list should be introduced, allowing players to advance while playing the campaign, and with co-op on the way, while having fun with friends killing some banished. Possibly adding it’s own weekly ultimate rewards, like armor emblems, Weapon coatings, Vehicle emblems, and Vehicle coatings.

  3. Make weekly ultimate rewards feel like an actual reward. -Contiued from item 4 in section 1- Challenges are difficult, annoying, and force players to play the game in a certain way, and most times don’t feel worth it. I’ve seen a few good ways to fix, and have combined them to this: Make the weekly ultimate reward 2 items the player gets to choose one of. ie: Have the 2 rewards be Generic visor as option 1, OR be given the option to choose a reward like 50 credits(in game currency).

  4. Until performance exp, medal/kill exp can be added; Add a daily challenge that gives additional exp for winning matches, having a positive K/D, and for having a certain amount of personal score in a match(800 personal score perhaps?) as a stop gap, and temporary fix.

  5. Weekly Challenges should be additional, not the primary source of exp. (I don’t have much to say on this as I feel it’s already kinda been covered under the rest of what’s been mentioned, but it is a part of the feed back generally given).

Section 3: Campaign
Over all the campaign has the least amount of issues, and least need for improvements gameplay wise, however it does have some feedback and improvements that could be had.

  1. Replayable missions and mission select. I know this probably doesn’t need to be listed, as it’s already on Dev radar, but it is probably the biggist issue when it comes to campaign.

  2. Wasp health/ enemy detection of the wasp. It blows up, and hits it’s failure state far to fast, or at the very least it feels that way, when the second you take off every enemy in a mile radius is immediately shooting at you, and it’s impossible to strafe/avoid their shots.

  3. There should be a way to earn exp via playing campaign. -See section 2: Item 2.

  4. There should be actual armor tied to the campaign, and actual armor in armor lockers in the campaign, even if that means adding MORE armor lockers to the campaign
4.5 We should get Chief’s armor core for beating the game, and there should be a amazing reward for beating the game on legendary.

  5. Players who spent full price on the game($60 USD, $75 CAD, and $80 AUD) should be given access to the battle pass, or at least the credits so that they can either purchase it, or purchase items from the store. One proposal I have seen is to give the players who bought the game the first 3 battle passes(3,000 credits/in game currency.) Or, to give those players a seasonal allowance of credits.
Many, myself included, who spent full price on the game now regret doing so, and/or feel like they’ve been scammed or ripped off for doing so. Many of us were expecting at least a code for the season one battle pass to be included inside the game case, and many of us would have been happy with that, however now 6 months have passed, and we not only have gotten nothing, we haven’t even been acknowledged to this day.

Section 4: Multiplayer gameplay

  1. Bring back player collision. Please, for the love of the forerunners… Please. A VAST majority of players want player collision back, and it would also help players know whether they are experience desync or if they are experiencing other issues. Additionally a lack of player collision breaks immersion hard, as well as causes some serious gameplay problems like having a teammate walk through you while you’re in the middle of a fight and you end up shooting, or throwing a grenade into, them instead of the enemy. (Can’t tell you the number of times I’ve gone to throw a plasma nade only for a teammate to walk through me and the nade bounce off the back of their head and back into my face.

  2. Bring back friendly fire across the board. This will alleviate the grenade spam issue massively, as well as fix a majority of both power weapon and vehicle weapon spam.

  3. Bring back melee blocking the energy sword. It shouldn’t have ever been removed in the first place, and is crucial in balancing the cqb weapon sandbox.

  4. Up the rank of bots added to the team when a player quits, or have them stop spawning if their KD hits 0 and 5. There is nothing more infuriating than losing a game because you lost 2 teammates, and had them replaced with 2 bots that have a KD of 0 kills and 10+ deaths. Obviously nobody wants to lose a game because a bot came in and back packed the enemy team, but at the same point in time, nobody wants to LOSE a game because the bot came in and tanked your team’s chances.

  5. Weapons need some serious balancing adjustments. Bulldog is useless against any other CQB weapons, like the energy sword an grav hammer. Shock rifle needs an very slight increase to body shot damage, or a faster rate of fire.
-5.5 bring back some classic weapons including but not limited to: Reach Grenade launcher, Classic Shotgun, Fuel Rod Canon, Plasma Rifle, Brute Plasma Rifle, Classic Magnum, SMG, ODST Suppressed Magnum, ODST Supressed SMG, Covenant Carbine, Brute Spiker, Mauler, Bruteshot.

  6. Fix desync. Getting shot around walls and blipped around the enemy when you go in for a punch should never happen, and worse are dead melees where you punch the enemy and nothing happens, or worse, you die instead. I know I know, not very in depth or detailed, and it’s a much more in depth topic, but I could make a single post alone about this topic that’d be just as long as this one, so that’s where I’ll leave it.
(I’ve included a 6 here because there’s not much to say about it but it’s still a big part of the feedback so I wanted to include it.)

Section 5: Customization, Armor Coatings, and Emblems.

  1. Cross core customization for canon armor cores. Obviously this is easier said than done, and ensuring clipping doesn’t happen will take extra time, but Helmets, Shoulders, Visors, Armor coatings, and Emblems should all be cross core.

  2. Armor coatings should allow players to choose their primary and secondary colors, and what the coating actually should do is provide the layout, pattern of those colors, and the armor finish(Scratched up, freshly painted, or worn and faded.)

  3. Emblem colors should allow players to choose more than one emblem, or choose the emblem location. Certain armor pieces outright cover and block emblems in their entirety making them meaningless.
-3.5 give emblems a color pallet. Pretty self explanatory.

  4. Multiple armor attachments on pieces of armor/combine more than one attachment to armor. Example of this is combinging an attachment like the Ace playing card helmet attachment with a hardened uplink attachment, or things of that nature. A further example is adding emiles kukri knife to a chest, while also having a chest armor attachment.

  5. More item options, such as the ability to add certain armor coatings to specific armor items. Example, be able to add a specific armor pattern via armor coating to a specific piece of armor like a shoulder.

Section 6: Battle Pass adjustments

-Sections 6 has here by been classified by ONI until we’ve seen the changes made already with the season 2 battle pass.

Section 7: Studio Communication with the fans/playerbase

  1. Just be honest with us about what’s going on. We’d rather be told if your up Schitt’s Creek without a paddle, or if you’ve run into some unexpected issues, than be left hanging and speculating on what’s going on. If management has made some decisions own up to em, take it on the chin, say sorry and tell us how you’re doing better to fix it.

  2. Vet what community managers and spokes people say and think: “Will this insult the fans, or could it be construed as insulting the fans?” and if the answer to either is yes; Smack that person lightly in the mouth like a mama grunt would smack a baby yip yip the destroyer for saying he wants to grow up to be like the demon one day. Kidding obviously, but just use common sense, and have someone keep tabs on how the community is feeling, before speaking, and don’t provoke them further with thoughtless comments.

  3. While a road map is very important, but just being kept in the loop is more important. Don’t say something is coming and then have it never show up with out telling us why. No promises are better than empty promises.
-3.5 A roadmap would still be nice, thanks.

  4. Keep us engaged. Throw out hypothetical ideas, and what if’s about random things and get our feedback on them, and judge fan reactions to those ideas. Keep us engaged, and thinking about the future, while making clear these are just hypotheticals that may never come about even if people like the ideas.

  5. Don’t beat around the bush, or dance around topics. A lot of the filler ‘updates’ we’ve gotten don’t actually tell us anything about what’s going on, by just throwing technical jargin at us. While you might be telling us what you’re dealing with, you’re not telling us what’s going on, and that’s all we want.

You should its a lot of points and views across the board. But still nothing about a crossplay toggle option. I personally want to keep pc out of my fps arena games they have advantages i dont that they arent willing to admit. I knownwhat mine is i have aim assist but thats only 1 and doesnt counter the other 12 advantages you have. Forcing them to use controllers wouldnt even fix the problem for me nah completely need the toggle switch so i can turn ceossplay off until custom games

So I’m going to do this topic section by section so I don’t make another giant post and we can discuss each section.

I agree, prices are still to high. These bundles should never be as much as a Battle Pass. Single items should also be sold for less. Maybe a few dollars, but never over $5 = 500cr. Items in bundles should be purchasable separately/individually. I will NEVER buy a bundle for a single item it contains. I’ve already passed on 2 bundles because all I wanted was a helmet in 1 and shoulders in the other. I’m not paying $10-20 for a single item.

Once again I agree. They should have a lock on the item if it’s tied to a core that you do not have access to. In the future this may become less of an issue as 343i begins to open up cross core customization.

I like the idea of a catalogue system. The current store model does has some FOMO, but I will say that they do at least rotate the same items in and out so you always have a chance. The front page being a Deal of the Week is also a great idea.

I doubt this will ever be possible. They have confirmed that the PAID BATTLE PASS will contain 1,000 CR. They have not told us how much that battle pass will cost. I feel as though this change is more than likely as close to this as we’ll get.

Agreed, not buy it or earn it early, buy it later. Just earn it.

spot on with everything, all complaints summed up in a nice bow. too bad 343’s broader audiance most likely wont care, nore will the 343 defenders who recon the game is perfect

I didn’t include this point, simply because I believe they had mentioned future plans to already add a cross play toggle, and the multiplayer list was already longer than the others. I 100% agree in cross play toggle being a major piece of feed back, and agree it should be added.

I agree with the above and the recent replies but I believe another change they should do is reduce the spawn rates in multiplayer. It just a bit long and considering if you require more time to complete challenges and overall want more action it just makes logical sense to permanently adjust it across the board.

Some maps are quite big like Fragmentation or Behemoth. Let’s say a 6v6 playlist for a Behemoth map, it still wouldn’t be that fun to wait 8 seconds to spawn.

So here’s my recommendations -

BTB (from 10 seconds to 8)
Rest of the other game modes (8 seconds to 6)

It’ll increase gameplay by more than 20% and players would feel more active in matches and could get people to play more in that matter.

So I’ve finally had time to read all of this and this has reminded me so much of how I felt about Halo 5 around this time after it’s release. As I read I continued to nod my head and contemplate these changes being suggested. I still intend to do a section by section discussion, but because of how this reminded me of my own thread about Halo 5 years ago just made me do this post.

After reading through and taking a second to take it all in I suddenly had a music queue pop into my head. Ride by Twenty One Piolets, the end of the song. The very same thing that happened to me when I put deep thought in making a massive post talking about my issues with Halo 5.

I’ve been thinking to much

Oh yeah, the pre-order people who received bad Zeta Sky codes (or pre-ordered from Walmart) STILL don’t have Zeta Sky fixed. Most of us feel stupid for having hope that at least the pre-order bonuses would have released fine.

Unfortunately, it would seem some items are excluded from the list of items they are rotating since the start of the year. For example the Reach Falcon Pilot pack and the soldier armor set. Those bundles were last listed in December of last year. It’s good that they are rotating items but they are not rotating all of the bundles. It’s frustrating to be honest.

I finally have time to continue discussing this and my internet goes out. I was going to do this last night, but we had a bad storm come through and knocked out power for a while so that literally rained on my parade.

So now I will be doing this from my phone which won’t let me quote. With that, on to section 2.

Challenges

1: Current challenge system is bad
I agree and have no understanding of why they would get so specific to make challenges to use a specific weapon and be in a specific playlist. Nor do I understand why something like “get 10 assists” or “get 10 headshots” would be tied to a playlist like Fiesta. Challenges need to be more generalized so people can just play what they want and progress if they intend to keep the challenge system tied to progression.

2: Campaign challenges
Agreed.

3: Make weekly capstone rewards feel like actual rewards.
Yeah I’ve never finished any because they never really interested me and sometimes the challenges were for playlists I had no interest in playing. In the first of the season 1 outcome reports they talked about this and plan to improve rewards.

4: Add daily challenges for winning, positive k/d and score.
This would be nice, but very unlikely to ever happen. This would increase your daily xp gain by a significant amount. Meaning you would progress through the battle pass very quickly and people already complain about completing the current pass and have no incentive to play.

5: Weekly challenges shouldn’t be the only source of xp.
Shrug
If they add more types of challenges and generalize them then I don’t really have any opinions on this. As long as we have per game XP then I’m ok.

Ok section 3 campaign

1: Replayable missions and mission select
Yeah, kinda a necessity.

2: Wasp health/enemy detection
I’ve not really had this issue and I’ve beaten the campaign on legendary. Yes the enemy can shoot you from an insane distance and that definitely needs worked on. I think if they decreased the accuracy of those long range laser accurate shots we’d see less of a problem overall. I just memorized enemy placement and blasted them from even further away. (The banshee is even worse. Definitely needs more health)

3: XP playing campaign
We’ve covered this, yes.

4: There should be actual armor tied to the armor lockers
Agreed. I got so deflated when they said we had campaign only unlocks and all we got was this trash. 4.5: Chief armor for legendary… Yes.

5: Campaign owners should have access to the battle pass or first three for free/ have the credits to purchase battle pass or other cosmetics
Probably never going to happen because a lot of people have the campaign through game pass so they haven’t paid for it directly and they already included “unlocks” in the campaign. Microsoft/343i wants that money.

To whoever is reading this…

In my opinion the reason a decent chunk of people are advocating for the dumbing down of the challenge system is simply because the challenge system IS the only progression system. When an actual ‘XP’ based rank/level progression system is added the challenge system will have to back pedal to include a higher variety of challenges. (It’s good they are already working on it as stated in the Outcomes Report Live blog in which it is referred to as a ‘Career Progression’ system)

But don’t get me wrong, the gamemode based challenges should NOT return until the playlists have been improved to allow for MUCH EASIER searching for desired gamemodes!

I think something we desperately need is cross team communication, I wanna type in all chat and talk to the people on the enemy team.
I wanna talk over voice chat to the people on the enemy team!

What? You dont wanna talk to somebody? A simple mute function will do you perfectly well, dont wanna hear somebody then just mute them. Whether there is a toggle mute for voice and chat or two toggles for them individual is up to you, but a mute function is really all you need!

Section 4 Multiplayer

1: Bring back collision
This is needed so very badly. It would help a lot with the ghost melees. I’ve both punched through people and watch people get punched through. Considering that no past Halo title has ever been this way, I can’t understand why 343i has decided to do this and straight up refused to turn it on. Just remembered that I somehow survived a guy sword lunging through me. I’d assume it’s a combo of desync and no collision.

2: Bring back friendly fire
While it’s nice to never be killed by a teammate for a power weapon, I would like to see this return. I have also suffered at the hands of friendlies walking through me as I throw a sticky or fire a rocket just to have it blow up in my face. This does encourage griefers, but it also encourages people to make better tactical decisions.

3: Melee blocking the energy sword
This would help to alleviate the current dominance of the energy sword. I can say it was very annoying in reach and would frustrate me. Which is probably why they never used this mechanic again.

4: Replace dropped players with better bots
Nods strongly yes

5: Weapons need rebalanced
Yeah several weapons need buffs and slight alterations, but sadly it seems 343i isn’t doing much to improve things starting season 2. Making the Mangler worse as well as possible impacts on other weapons with this melee nerf. At least they’re making the ravager better. 5.5: classic weapons- some of those probably won’t be returning because some of the new weapons cover these roles very well and 343i has been trying to cut down on overlap for a clean sandbox. Trust me I want some of those back too.

6: Fix desync
I mean that pretty much sums it up.

There is a mute function but you need to pause to menu, select the friend icon on the bottom right and find the player.

This is honestly a hassle and would be easier to pull up the leaderboard and toggle mute on the player and back out and continue as you do. This would really help to everyone!

Section 5 customization

1: Cross core customization
Yeah this was a dumb decision from the start in what I feel like was a way to artificially create the need for the same coatings and other customization pieces to be bought multiple times for different cores. Sure clipping may occur, but currently armor in the locked cores already clip. Just allow for everything except chest pieces to be cross core.

2: Armor coating customization
They need to bring back some form of basic pallette selection. They can still do special coatings that have unique finishes and special colors so they’re unique and “worth” charging money for. Here I am 6 months after launch and I’m still using basic blue coating for my Spartans because they don’t have a black and blue coating which I know would cost money.

3: Choose emblem colors
Once again I will never understand this decision to lock choices. All this does is help choke player expression and individuality. Yes they need to open this up. Once again I’ve been using the stuff I got from participating in the flights with the black and white pallette because the rest don’t look that great. And yes they need to fix the issue of the emblem just being covered by chest pieces. What’s the point if it just gets covered up?

4: Multiple armor attachments
I agree that you should be able to choose multiple pieces so you can truly customize the helmet. Give us slots for each earpiece, mouth and head.

5: More item options
More items would be better, but I don’t think the ability to apply coatings to individual pieces would be needed. It would take a lot of extra work to do that and it would be annoying to us players to have to set each piece a color.

Good list.
For the challenges. I would like to add the suggestion to be able to progress all 20 challenges at the same time. Kinda annoying to see all of our challenges but to be able to work on them 3 or 4 at the time.
