A competitive playlist with so many leaderpowers?

One thing that would bring back a competitive edge to the game would be a Ranked playlist with limited leader powers. I feel all of these leader powers take the fun away from managing your units. It’s not all that fun when you’ve spent 5 or so minutes gathering a decent little army at the cost of 3k+ supplies and 2k+ power to have it wiped out by a couple of leader powers (especially teamed leader powers). Why not make it more about the units? Don’t get me wrong the game is awesome! It just feels sometimes… there isn’t a lot of strategy to it…

Anyone get that feeling? Maybe a new playlist highlighting the Units at play more would be worth a try?

I was against this idea way back when I first saw someone post it. But, now I’d like to give it a try.

I suppose you’d have to remove leaders too then…

I do see what you’re saying but with the way the game was made, there would be one or 2 viable leaders. Imagine shipmaster without his teleporting, or an atriox without his bullwark. It sounds like a good idea on paper but implementing in the game would not be fun in the slightest.

I personally would never play that playlist, I can see the appeal. But I just think it would lead to you basically just choosing your voice over.

I think it would be very nice to have a game type with no LP’s but that can’t work in a RTS with two races and the current amount of units. You would really need more units for each race and a third race for this to work.

With a two race, leader based RTS you have to have them to be competitive because it adds a similar feel as multiple race RTS games have. However with so many leaders its very tough to balance.

Your right about balancing leasers… How about a “Classic Leader” Playlist??

A playlist where you gain a max 5 leader points?

How about a playlist that keeps the passives, drops, and temporary unit buffs but removes the ones specifically designed to drop a large bomb or laser to put a large dent in your army, like eradication, scatter bomb, cleansing beam, archer missiles, etc. Those are the leader powers that don’t require skill, but the passives, drops, and temporary unit buffs do, or at least slightly more. Even teleport would be admitted into the playlist, the Shipmaster would be nothing without it.
