The halo community has been split into two very vocal groups, competitive players and casual. I use these terms loosely however seeing as how many blur the lines. Sadly I feel this was an unnecessary result of 343 decision making. The community did not have to be split, both style of play could have been catered to and kept the whole fanbase in tact and on one side. Ranked/unranked playlist could have been implemented and hopefully will be. One side has no right to oppose the other while they have there own preference available. The arguments ive seen from the ranked playlist advocates are very logical and worthy of consideration while the arguments from the casuals seem repetitive and downright self centered. By now im sure you can guess which playlist I prefer.
Im just honestly done with this ball of crap. between getting the cold shoulder from 343 twards us and the biased monitors allowing posts such as “for a penny a day you can feed a starving competitive” in response to a well thought out thread advocating ranked playlists. Yet blocking a response to a poorly thought out thread using the pixel next to the gamertag argument that simply said “you are bad at halo” when his OP begged for such a response. Both posts are cause flaming but somehow the person talking that penny a day crap slips through the cracks. This is the definition of biased.
343 “so far” has showed the competitive crowed that they are not worthy of having what they desire. When in FACT it would not effect the casual players in the slightest. Instead they offer slayer pro and say “there you go competitives, have fun” Between this bs, almost having the same spoiled countless times, reading about ppl crying over the BR, the jetpack returning and so on ive had enough.
Hopefully 343 has an ace up their sleeves as far as ranking and pleasing the competitive crowd. Or else its likely that after campaign and a bit of wargames im out. As im sure will be ther case with MANY others.
ill simply have to gamefly 5-6 to play the story and nothing more. Halo has lost sight of what it used to be, and it breaks my heart -_-
let the flamming begin…
untill the thread is locked i suppose

So wait, let me get your logic.
The community is split, because 343i is making us play together?
Okay.

if you cannot see the division in the community…
you have been living in a box
Slow clap of approval good sir. I stand with you all the way. Cheers bro. Hope this wont get locked everyone needs to see this and participate in this discussion.

Yeah I probably have. I don’t hang around the forums often, but the community has almost always been split from what I can tell. There’s always been the people who play ranked and only ranked, and the people who play unranked, and only unranked.
This is probably just me talking like a casual but it doesn’t really matter. I’m still going to enjoy the game just as much as if there were ranked/unranked. It doesn’t make much of a difference.
I want Halo 4 to have Ranked/Social playlist.
Ranked playlist for competitive players.
Social playlist for casual players.
> The halo community has been split into two very vocal groups, competitive players and casual.
No! I stopped reading right there! It’s not a divide between “competitive” and “casual” players. It’s not that simple and the definitions are wrong.
Wanna know how to truly divide them? It’s between boxes and buckets!
Halo is a “sandbox” game, you go into the sandbox with everybody else to play with all the sand. But, there’s a group of people who think there’s too much sand, so they only get enough sand for a bucket.
The boxes think the overall sandbox should be played with. Which also lets people be very creative with their own area of the sandbox to truly impress people.
The buckets think everybodys true worth is determined by what little they can have, they limit themselves and have everyone compete with each other to see who is better with what little they have.
The problem is that the buckets aren’t allowing anybody into the sandbox. They’re kicking everyone out and being aggressive about it. They’re demanding you only play with what little they’re giving you, or to go home.
The thing is, we don’t care about how the buckets want to play. They can have their buckets, we’ll even encourage you. Because the truly great thing about Halo isn’t whoever is better at using their buckets, but the vast amount of sand in the sandbox for people to play with. You can have your buckets if you want, just stop trying to limit our enjoyment over our boxes.
You speak the truth…but rules are rules and I’m sure this thread will lead to arguments…this will be locked soon and if its not…I will be VERY surprised.
But in all seriousness I think 343i have something up their sleeves as for me I’m competitive about everything ill find something to brag about like my KD or something lol, so even if I don’t have those so called “pixels” next to my GT ill enjoy the game till H5 comes out
and so on…
PS. I hope this thread doesn’t go crazy and stays alive you really make valid points.
Hey guys remember back when Halo 3 and Call of Duty week after week were neck and neck fighting for the most played game on Xbox Live? Remember that? It was like that cause Halo 3 had ranked and social playlists. So competitive players and casual players had there own style of play. Then Reach didnt have that, and well we all know what happened there.

Reach was just overall a disappointment. I sincerely hope you don’t actually believe Reach didn’t do as good as Halo 3 solely because of the lack of social/ranked.
> I see it more like people who either hate or like Reach.
yeah I dont believe its really as clear cut as that, Im all for ranked yet I enjoyed reach…sort of (more than other FPS games). I started playing heaps again in prep for halo 4 because i believed it would go back to its roots. -_-

thats exactly what im sayin. I dont want the causals to not have their social or their griffball etc…I just want to be able to play ranked and leave them alone. I guess that makes too much sense
I like going onto the MLG playlist and wasting the entire Sniper Rifle clip on the wall.
> I see it more like people who either hate or like Reach.
I liked Reach, but hated some aspects and still enjoyed it. I am competitive but casual when needed.
So…what does that make me? Odd?
While I do agree with you OP I must say, you bring up valid points here and there. I do recall that there is such a rank system but have yet to show it (too lazy to find a source but it’s there) now bare with me, Halo 4 seems fast paced compared to previous titles. I still haven’t played the game but after seeing videos it’s come to the conclusion to say so, but don’t take my word for it just my two cents.

I pray you are right man. plz 343!!! make me look stupid and prove me wrong hahahaha
Ide love to eat my words.
I see what you are saying, but wait for the game to come out before you go tearing it a new one. I think that the ranking, the competitive nature, and the casual play are all things that 343 has taken into consideration and will do their best to give a solution where all players can be satisfied. From what I have seen, the game looks great and they have added a bunch of new things in multiplayer, I am sure it will work out just fine.
On another note, I am super stoked for Spartan Ops!

It surely didnt help no. Reach had plenty of problems bloom and armor lock to name a few.
The community has been split for years, dunno where you’ve been. I remember it being a huge hardcore vs casual -Yoink- storm since the Halo 2 days.
