I was just thinking that this would be very useful, because the people who just play the games and don’t bother with the books, but still really enjoy the story, could have something in-game to allow them to understand the universe better, and to help them understand why some things are happening in the game, with out requiring huge info dumps in the campaign.
This would be great to help people understand the background of halo’s character, vehicles, weapons, armours, stories,species, planets etc. it would be nice if it came with a video along side it that went through each of its histories in a concept art like form as the terminals in halo 4.

But seriously I think this is a good idea assuming first though that it wouldn’t be better for the game (in terms of making all necessary resources available to it) to defer a codex to a waypoint app or the waypoint website. An in game tool is of course ideal but depending on how much a premium on space Halo 5 has we might have to make a compromise or two.

I think a Codex with a properly told story to go along with the game will do wonders for those who are still confused. Let’s just hope it isn’t like the Halo 4 Terminals that are only viewable outside the game thus breaking the immersion and flow of the story.

We call Unggoy grunts, because we think they’re pathetic; in the Halo 2 Elite-version guide, they weren’t demeaned in the same manner. Besides, Truth and 343 GS have such attractive voices.

Yeah if they did it like that it would be okay.
To those arguing who should be the narrator for the codex: If there is meant to be immersion, it should be a character who is still alive or with the UNSC, preferably someone close with the Infinity if that’s the focus again.
To me, the one who makes the most sense to voice the codex is Roland.
I think that would be perfect. Especially to help explain things without devoting gameplay or cutscenes to it.

I’ll be honest, I don’t want either of them narrating it. Cortana is dead, so it wouldn’t make too much sense having her do it. Roland, despite being my favorite AI, I just can’t take him seriously.

The Librarian’s voice sounds very wise and humble, and it fits the theme of a “Reclaimer being guided by a Forerunner”.
