As those of you who have been on today know, I’m very concerned about resupply, to allay my fears (and possibly because Frankie’s Elite cadre of Grunts foiled my kidnapping scheme!) I have developed two canon explanations for resupply. The real explanation we all know, it’s for balance, the core gameplay mechanic Halo is built around
A. All Halo 4 multiplayer, not counting Spartan Ops, takes place in some sort of simulation inside the UNSC Infinity, we know this to be a fact. So the explanation here? Same as in real life, balance.
B. The UNSC is changing gears. Look at Pre Human-Covenant War weapons and vehicles. They aren’t so much well designed as they are terrifying or cheap. But when it comes to combating Innies, they’re excellent. Scorpion tank, terrifying, if you see that thing, your’e going to think twice about joining the Insurrection. It’s heavily resistant to small arms fire, but in all honesty, our tanks are probably better designed. But could a bunch of Innies take it out? Not without heavy weaponry, something that a small uprising on a backwater planet is unlikely to have. The Covenant changed all this, my theory is that part of the reason humanity was losing so badly was because our weapons weren’t meant to fight another army, they were meant to fight insurgents or for other reasons. Post Covenant War, perhaps the UNSC has seen this and is starting to rethink their stance. The grenades in Infinity are thus a new type of grenade that are keyed to the wearer, when the wearer dies, the grenade locks down. This prevents the wearers team mates from using it, but the idea is that, since soldiers fight in squads, if one man goes down, you won’t have time to reach for his grenades nor need to, you have your own, and what if you’re already dead anyway? The lockdown can be removed by certain UNSC personnel, and thus, that’s what the resupply perk is. A specialization, a learned skill, for unlocking these grenades. This is actually a pretty good idea, since some Elites are now starting to use human weapons, and because the Innies got a lot of weapons through contacts in the UNSC. These new grenades, which could be experimental and thus not widely used, are the solution. No Elite can use them against a human, an Innie stealing them would be very frustrated.
Special thanks to Daedalos42, he jump-started my brain on this one by suggesting the grenades had some sort of locking feature built in.
343 Industries, on the off chance you use a variant of this, I’ll take a cushy job and a starting salary of 100k. Had to do that, sorry. Couldn’t resist the joke. On the off chance it is used, I’d liked the mechanism to be named the Daedolas Leal Device, or something like that but with both those names in it.
