Something that I have longed for for quite some time (since Halo2) is a campaign that gives us a better insight into the Covenant. We weren’t too sure what we were fighting in Halo CE. All we knew was they were these aliens who wanted to obliterate us for no known reason. Halo 2 dove deep into the Covenant’s story with the ability to play as the Arbiter, giving us a few details on their origins, what they wanted the rings for, and so on and so forth. This was the only game we got any deep legitimate information on them. Halo 3 focused largely on humans, ODST was a complete human story, and Reach was focused on Noble team. And while we did get a lot of information in Halo 2, there were many scenes that were cut for whatever reason. One inparticular that gives us a complete breakdown of the Covenants Origins. In the video skip to about 2:16
This video was included in the Halo 2 bonus disc that came with the Limited Edition copy of Halo 2 for those who didn’t know. But as you can see you get a nice breakdown of the Covenant.
Which brings me to my main point. I want a mini Campaign that focuses on the Sangheili(elites). Something much like ODST but takes place on their home planet Sanghelios. I’ve been considering how amazing a game like this would be for a while. It would give 343i a chance to use some creativity and broaden our knowledge on the Covenant. I’m early in the thought process on what the game would include, but one thing I keep coming back to is the thought of including those seven murals from the video hidden throughout the campaign. Like the terminals, once you find them it would unlock a video on that specific event.
So I would enjoy you feedback from this. Do you think an Elite story would be a good Idea? Spread the word and lets get this to happen!
Yeah, but I ultimately feel as if they should avoid setting such a game during the Human-Covenant war period where you would fight Humans. Before or after definitely, but not during. Bungie did not want you to kill Humans when playing as the Arbiter, so instead there was the Flood and Heretics. (Which was okay in itself as it showed you that the Covenant is actually quite unstable) Such a game would revolve around you invariably committing war crimes and fighting for a theocratic totalitarianism, and killing soldiers only trying to defend their species and families from slaughter. Unless the character discovers something and changes during the game and tries to do something about it, I feel as if it would be no better than playing as the -Yoink!-’s in a WWII game where you shoot Polish PoW’s or something. Just my opinion.

I get what you’re saying. I agree a game fighting Humans would be a bad idea. But it could be focused on one of the Covenants many civil wars, or the creation of the covenant? The battles between the Profits and Elites before their treaty. Maybe something along the lines of the Civil war the Covenant had during their separation from the Covenant. Halo 4 could even open something up to allow a game like that to be created. There a several possible options, one of course would not be a Covenant human war story.
Bungie attempted to give us this in Halo 2 when we would switch to the Arbiter but people complained and it was removed in Halo 3. Then again we didn’t fight Humans as the Arbiter but still, I don’t think they would dedicate an entire campaign to that. Firefight would be great though if they could work on the Human A.I. a bit.

Now I am just talking a mini campaign. Something like ODST not a huge release with multiplayer and the works.

But, that’s the point Nihilus was trying to get at. Bungie soft-released, in simple terms, a campaign like that in Halo 2. Halo 2 was essentially two extended mini-campaigns combined into one and people were disappointed by the Arbiter’s side of it. I’m not saying everyone did. I enjoyed it quite a bit. However, knowing the views on it from Halo 2, one of the most popular games out of the series, it’ll be a while before we see a campaign or separate mini-campaign of that sort, if at all.
The only reason why I would see 343i doing anything of the sort is as DLC or like ODST and that’s only because they’re fans themselves. The more storyline the better, in other words. But again, to me, it seems unlikely outside of that.

I was under the impression that people were mostly disappointed/annoyed because there was no mention of a Covenant side until release. Regardless, I’d like to see it done again.
IMHO Halo 3 suffered as a result of the Arbiter’s role being heavily cut. It means the Great Schism is viewed from the outside, whereas in Halo 2, via the Arbiter, we got to see the internal strains in the Covenant up close.
The fanboys who whined that they only wanted to play as Master Chief and “not some gay alien” really got on my wick.
Yup… I would have loved to see more of it, because ultimately if it didnt happen, the covenant would have eradicated the humans… It always felt weird not knowing what was happening on the civil war of the covenent, and how it helped the humans.
> The Grunt Rebellion
> The Taming of the Hunters
> The Quelling of the Kig-Yar Pirate Prince
>
> The Covenant has more than enough history for it’s own games.
I’d love to see these but… not playing as Elites ALL the time. I’d like to be opened to playing as other Covenant troops and whatnot, especially since we’ve been able to play as ODSTs, two different classes of Spartans, etc.
Even the history of the Elites being dragged into the ranks of the Covenant as well as the Brutes would be interesting.
> > Though, the elites seem to be the more “interesting” race that makes up the covenant. Atleast in my opionion.

I think the great campaign would be about one of the grunt rebellions. You would play as a grunt on the front lines, but the catch is you can’t die or you restart the entire campaign. nah all things aside I wouldn’t mind one about the covenant lots of stuff to talk about.

While that would be cool, I doubt they would make a campaign like that. The only hope I believe of playing as all the members would be if they made a StarWars Battle Front styled game. Seeing 343 is in charge of Halo and not Pandemic, I doubt it would happen (and kinda glad LOTR: Conquest was a failure). If anything they could make their own story about conflicts on their own planet. I just really want a game that dives deeper into their history.

And I’m not talking about another Halo 2 styled game, strictly an Elite story where you don’t switch back and forth between races.
This is a good idea, though having the focal point solely concentrated on the Sangheili will get stale at some point. We need to explore the Brutes, Jackals, Grunts (I’d like to see how their mental stabilities work, being less than trash and all).
Oh, and Hunters. The remarks from the Ship Master in Ghosts of Onyx about the Mgalekgolo virtually being a complete mystery to the Covenant and having conflicting personas (bloodlusted to calm and reciting poetry), and the comment from Frank O’Connor about seeing ‘just the tip of iceberg’ about Hunters has really captured my interest.
It’d be nice to see if they have a hierarchy of any sort.
it could get boring, like COD campaign. One game of it can’t be bad, though. They should make a beast mode on halo. how would you like to be a hunter? a drone?
