A "Brutally Honest" Halo 4 Review

Oviously some spoilers. I’m not sure if this has been posted before, I used the search bar and came up with no results. It was posted 3 days ago, so it might already have been.

What do you guys think, do you agree? I feel like a lot of really good points are made in terms of story and multiplayer gameplay. Hopefully 343 can pick up on what’s being said here and use it to their advantage. I like Halo 4, but it could have been so much more.

Don’t care, game is great.

> Don’t care, game is great.

It touches on the pros and cons. According to the review, Halo 4 is doing what a lot of games have been doing, and only creating an intial perception of grandeur. If this is the case, then that perception won’t last for long and will not stand out as a classic.

Like I said, I do like the game but I feel like things are lacking.

^ This

And while I did read the review, a few things stuck out for me:

No map control? Seriously? Obviously, this guy hasn’t played a team controlling back stairs on Haven, center building of Abandon, or middle building of Longbow.

Lack of small maps? Haven, Adrift, Abandon, Solace, ya know, half the maps, aren’t enough for you?

And the Campaign sucks because the Knights mess up your usual play, and are actually a challenge? Sound effects suck? AI’s suck? Storyline sucks? Seriously?

Another review that put down Halo 4 for poor/stupid reasons… Tsk. Tsk.

It’s the details that can make a good game into a great game.

-Abandon’s centre is a power position. i haven’t played longbow. and Haven’s back stairs are NOT a power position; it can be flanked and naded super easy, and it has little to no sight lines. so at best, 3 of the 10 maps have feasible power positions (and Haven’s ‘power position’ barely cuts it).
-compare any of these maps from the ‘small’ maps of previous halos; they all are about twice the size with half the sightlines.
-no the campaign sucks, and the fact that knights are barely a challenge and only frustrates the player by teleporting behind him every so often, contributes to the campaign sucking. the AIs stood still 9/10 times. it was like their boots were made of cement. i can’t commment on the storyline, since that is subjective.

-nope this review brings up valid points, which you can’t see due to blind fanboyism. if you want a bad review, look for the one that mentions that halo should have iron sights.

See, this guy knows what he’s talking about.

It seems to me like you and the poster of that link has little to no skill when it comes to adapting to your surroundings. You can’t go RAMBO within the campaign. I did it in CO/OP Legendary, and have Legendary-In Progress and you just have to be more patient and careful.

The game should not cater to you just because your faith in your skill is lacking.

Although I am not here to play flame fetch with you. Tonight you will read this, and still believe your own ideals, disregarding what has been said on this thread as will I or anyone who actually has played and has a tactical hold in the game.

Me thinks that the editor whom reviewed Halo might very well just suck at the game.

Campaign no plot? Really? Had way more emotion in the game than any others.
No strategy? Now I know the editor sucks.

Go back to Viva Pinata.

I always laugh when I see you “reviewers” say the campaign has no story to it, or no plot. Let me be “brutally honest”, you clearly don’t understand the halo universe and what goes on. If you did, you’d enjoy the hell out of it.

The review is spot on.

For the campaign… and to be honest, it did slow down for a few chapters after they met up with infinity. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the cheesy vehicle sequences, but before the mantis, and after the librarian, it’s all gold.

Dude authoring the article doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

He obviously wrote off the story before even playing it. The “Do errands for the Infinity” is specifically SO that Master Chief and the rest of them can get home. Once Del Rio becomes a threat to Cortana, Chief goes AWOL and goes about finding a different way home that keeps Cortana safe. The story made perfect sense.

His entire review reeks of someone trying to “rage against the machine” and be the one mighty righteous fist of defiance that brings down the Halo franchise and exposes it for the dog it is!

Give me a break.

I certainly hope this hack isn’t writing for money.

I think chief leaving was a combination of needing to stop the didact from going after the composer (the librarian told him about it, remember), and rio suggesting cortana should be decomissioned which forced chief to take the awol approach and do it on his own.

No, if you understood the Halo universe you’d know that the story retconnded and rewrote so much back story it practically isn’t the same universe anymore.

As far as multiplayer is concerned I’m still on the fence. The review made some valid points. I certainly enjoyed it in the beginning but it’s getting old fast. I cringe every time I see a needler in my ordnance knowing someone is running around the map with an incineration cannon. The rewards are just far too random. Yesterday I got a shotgun in my ordnance went on a running riot and got another shotgun in the next one; the rich get richer eh? It’s ridiculous that this passes as a competitive game.

> No map control? Seriously? Obviously, this guy hasn’t played a team controlling back stairs on Haven, center building of Abandon, or middle building of Longbow.

Thanks to instant spawn and sprint, map control is significantly less important.

> Lack of small maps? Haven, Adrift, Abandon, Solace, ya know, half the maps, aren’t enough for you?

Adrift? Solace? Small? LOL!

Haven is the only small map and Abandon, the next smallest is a medium sized map…

> And the Campaign sucks because the Knights mess up your usual play, and are actually a challenge? Sound effects suck? AI’s suck? Storyline sucks? Seriously?

Prometheans in general are not fun to fight. It’s just kill crawlers, kill watchers and than shoot a mag and a half at a knight that does little to get to cover to kill it. Every fight is basically the same every time.

Sound design in general is quite poor in this game. Volume balancing is actually bad. Using a proper high end headset really compounds these problems.

A.I just does the same thing over and over and there are many many times where the best idea an Elite can come up with is stand out in the open soaking up bullets.

Storyline I cannot agreed with. I quite enjoyed it and didn’t have a problem understanding it as I played.

> Another review that put down Halo 4 for poor/stupid reasons… Tsk. Tsk.

I.E another review that points out glaring issues that you simply don’t understand.

small maps w/sprint…

anyway, the prometheans aren’t the funnest to fight at times… at least when you die in 6 shots and are forced to kill them from afar. It’s very boring, and they’re very innacurate w/o a binary.

Oh look a bad review for a popular game. . . Because SOMEONE doesn’t want page views.

A review for clicks.
