Ever since Halo CE, my dad and I would always play the campaign together right after bringing the game home. He didn’t game other than that. He loved it.
With Halo 5, we were upset to see the lack of split screen. Such a classic feature, missing from a Halo game. We had to buy another Xbox to play together, luckily we found one cheap online.
Now I’m an adult and don’t live with my parents. But my dad was still super excited to play Infinite. We planned to take vacation days for its release, we got him a new xbox and everything just for it. Then 343 announced no coop on release. It’s not the same going back and playing coop after the games been out for months with floods of inevitable spoilers. There’s no awe to it.
Sadly, this marks the end of the Halo release tradition my dad and I have had for 20 years.
welcome to the modern gaming industry. it’s a tragedy.

It is a shame. I hope prioritizing microtransactions and battlepass systems doesn’t cause this game to fail like Halo 5 did.
You could attempt to avoid spoilers, but 3 months is quite a bit of time.
I’m not saying it’s even remotely the same, but you two could try the “play together on release” through bot matches.
It’s still PvE, so you don’t have to worry about just getting party stomped and having a terrible time. And maybe your dad would actually end up wanting to try some regular PVP matches, which could end up letting you both have a ton of fun together you may not have expected.
Obviously it’s different than coop campaign. But I would recommend making the best situation out of the reality you’re given.
They. Should. Delay.
Release the multiplayer this fall, but save the rest.
Don’t get sad, get vocal!

It’s not a he doesn’t like pvp thing it’s a he lives the story and it’s just him and me time that we’ve had since I was a child. Bots and pvp just aren’t it.

I’m just trying to help you out. The reality is you don’t get coop right away. So you can either play NO Halo with your dad, or you can TRY and play the PvE mode that will be available at launch to see if it might be fun for you guys.
So do you want no Halo for three months, or do you want some Halo for three months (even if it’s something new and unfamiliar)? Have you even floated the thought of fighting bots to your dad?
As I father, I can tell you he probably likes the time with you more than he cares about what he’s playing anyway.

I understand how you feel, my older cousins got me into Halo back with CE through the campaign and of course multiplayer split-screen. So for a Triple A studio with far more money and technology than CE from 2001, to launch with missing features is insane and there is no excuse for this at all. But to be honest during the tech preview live stream on of the devs said that “they wont be able to fix everything before launch” so I expected missing multiplayer features and game modes. Never did I think 343i would launch the 60 paid portion incomplete. I guess they truly learned nothing from H5 ( as an add on- I blame upper- management completely)
And if you were to listen to some of the muppets on this forum and elsewhere who have decided to become honorary bean counters, these situations don’t really exist or are otherwise so small that they are not important.
They are wrong of course. Your story isn’t uncommon and co-op has always been a core aspect of the Halo experience, but they’d rather just stick their head in the sand so long as it let’s them play Infinite that much earlier regardless of how short sighted that goal is and regardless of how many people that it might affect.
I genuinely sad that anyone finds this acceptable.

As long as the PvP is launched those guys dont care about anything I I mean literally anything else. I cant even count the amount of times i’ve heard “Oh it was hard to balance anyway” or “it would be a waste of resources and take away from what’s really important” how about " its not 2007 anymore, get with the times old man" we’ve all heard “if you want those features go play MCC.” If not that then they insult you by saying “you boomers ruin Halo” Meanwhile the mods do nothing about these insults as long as the person is praising 343i. However ppl like me get banned and suspended all the time for posting constructive criticism that Bonnie Ross doesn’t want to hear.
I didn’t know where to give my opinion and I didn’t want to open a new topic so I will give it here. All these problems make me sad too so I hope that the campaign is really worth it, they have told us that it will be a “spiritual reboot” and I hope it will be like that, I hope there is a Warthog Run mission, I hope The Arbiter is involved in the story and I hope they use the og Halo theme. I don’t like the marketing they have done either, I remember those epic trailers like “Deliver Hope”, “Believe” and “We are ODST”. I think the 343 Industries team is amazing, but they need more original team members like Joe Staten, I’d be happy if they surprised us with the hiring of Marcus Lehto. Maybe I’m not the #1 fan but like many, I’ve grown up with Halo games and I just wish the best for the game. I know it has been difficult and i know they haven’t done this on purpose but I need something to BELIEVE in them again.

wut is this comment
Like why not play against “Bots” like campaign enemies? Bot slayer is hella boring and redundant. Don’t need to force an old dude to play with bots that are easier than the ones he probably grew up with (Unreal Championship anyone?) so why did you comment that -Yoink- xD.
Just release Co-op campaign. I know that word hurts you. SO I WILL SAY IT AGAIN.
Just release Co-op campaign. It’s been 6 years. You really mean no one at 343 is interested in playing this remarkable game they’ve created together?
Just release Co-op campaign. Are we supposed to get an Xbox per person? What happened to caring about familes (that aren’t rich enough for several xbox xs)
Just release Co-op campaign. Just release Co-op campaign. Just release Co-op campaign. Just release Co-op campaign.
That’s all they gotta do.

The reality is 343 are incompetent at developing video games so they have to not have split screen in Halo 5 and take away the ability to play 4 player co-op campaign UGH why dont you get it!!! - That’s how the -Yoink- you sound.

I see no point in continuing with them. Fighting bots in arena is completely different to playing a campaign. They don’t even correlate at all

I don’t know why you guys all got so aggressively antagonistic in your response. I very obviously premised it with “it’s not the same” and just tried to give you the thought of something else you could try and enjoy under the circumstance. (I imagine you probably didn’t even think there was a PvE option available for split screen from the context of your original post).
But if you all are going to be that way, then just be sad, don’t play anything, and flip off. That’s the other option

Halo 5 Beta better than Halo 6 Tech Build prove me wrong
I’m a little bummed there’s no co-op at release, I played Halo CE co-op with my dad and was looking forward to playing Halo Infinite co-op with my daughter. On the other hand… I thought the multi-player flight was very promising and I’m ready to play as soon as it’s ready lol.

You aren’t helping with your initial follow up of an aggressive “helping” suggestion, basically demanding that they play multiplayer, even if its not what they wanted in the first place, you even went the high ego route trying to suggest your merit as a father, which had nothing to do with their situation that you implied. Now you are salted that somebody took your “advice” and told you where to put it. Nothing here can help your situation, which is obviously leagues more complex than what this forum has involved. Call us “Not true fans” maybe that will work some day.
