A better way to do Spartan Ops

So lets start out by saying that I liked the idea of spartan ops. It was a cool concept, just not executed to its potential.

However!

I was thinking about it, and it would make for a nice standalone game. Imagine it similar to Reach in that your multiplayer character is also your character for campaign. You rank up, complete commendations and achievements to unlock new armor, pick a prefered starting combo (DMR + SMG, Assault rifle + pistol, etc.)

You would play as a spartan IV, possibly implementing a rudementary character creation for you spartan’s face and a few voice options, nothing huge but just enough to really imerse you into the character.

Maybe even have the Infinity act as a hub section similar to ODST where you could continue the story, run a war-game, or access the armory from different sections of the ship.

Other features:

Improved VISR- detects the amount of light in your area and adjust how much of a “nightvison effect” you require. Still outlines enemies and ordnance.

Campaign only weapon variants- infiltrating an enemy controled area? Heres a silencer for your battle rifle. Destroying a large target? Heres a laser designator. Campaign only of course.

New and returning game modes-
Reintriduce firefight and invasion, maybe introduce a type of “base assault” game where one team must protect a fortified area while the other attacks them.

What do you guys think?

This is a great concept I would buy this if it was a game one of my favorite parts of reach was my spartan carrying over all game modes.

The concept of having Infinity as a hubs seems a lot like the Tower from Destiny, which I really enjoy personally. It would be interesting to see Halo 5:Guardians have that sort of system for the activities outside of the campaign.

Exactly! Plus it would be a chance to give the wider audience a better view of the Spartan IVs.

Besides the weapon skins, isn’t this just exactly what reach did?

While having the character from MP carry over to campaign, yes. But with weapons I’m talking loadouts for campaign, not multiplayer.

These of course would be subject to change based on certain missions (IE: a mission where you must start with say and AR and sniper). The story would also (hopefully) be longer than Reach’s and focus on Spartan IV’s post Halo 3.

In essence it would be like a blend of ODST and reach, with halo 4’s general feel and a hub world like destiny.

I would like to be able to choose different difficulties during matchmaking.

It would actually work with the Spartan IVs because they don’t behave anything like a Spartan II or III.

Yes

I have a poll on this “hub” topic. this is the link. I thought a game like this would be cool.
