A better soundtrack

While halo 4 did have a few good soundtracks, (117, and arrival.) The rest were honestly, imo, bad, for halo. Most of them are good, but again, not for halo.

A quick comparison, Halo 2, vs Halo 4

Don’t bother listening to the entire soundtrack, just the first 30 seconds maybe. But honestly, I really think we should go back to the old fashioned halo soundtrack. One last comparison?

I mean seriously? I just hope we get someone new for the halo 5 soundtrack. I know people have opinions, but every halo (besides reach/odst/halo 4 once again my opinion) had beautiful soundtracks. I know they got someone new, but 343i did great with the anniversery remastered soundtracks, why can’t they follow that? Instead of this completely different soundtrack they gave us. One of the main reasons I liked halo was because of the amazing music, the music that makes you feel strong emotions towards the game.

But kudo’s to 343i for this beautiful remake… :’)
- YouTube Funny thing is, it’s made by a different composer than the guy that made most of halo 4’s soundtrack…
Would you rather go back to the soundtrack we’ve been with sense Halo ce, halo 2, and halo 3? Or stick with the new style?
But once again 343i the never forget remake is honestly perfection. Just try to keep that original sound.

I know that its just your opinion but ODST, Reach and Halo 4 all had amazing soundtracks, they were just a little different. I wouldn’t mind having more soundtracks like the original trilogy but they will still make some new and different ones.

You forgot Halo 3… in my opinion, Halo 3’s tracks were mostly just superior orchestral remakes of Halo: CE and Halo 2 tracks. Perfect culmination of the trilogy’s music and a perfect example of how that music has not yet been surpassed. I liked ODST’s and Reach’s soundtracks, but they didn’t beat the original trilogy’s. Halo 4’s music was just meh. Of course, Halo 2 still has my favourite soundtrack. Spartan Assault did a good job reviving the Halo feel without being too overt about it.

OP, the last song you listed for H2 is my favorite band

Great game, great band.

Halo 4’s soundtrack is more along the lines of what we are going to get in the future. For a lack of a better term the spacey feel is going to stay.

I felt this soundtrack fitted Halo 4’s story perfectly to be honest. Not that you are, but it has way too much hate :-/

I really liked 4’s soundtrack. Fit the mood perfectly. The Reclaimer Saga is much more hard sci fi than the Covenant trilogy and the 4 captured it perfectly.

I had no problem with the soundtrack, they did a terrific job.

I think you forgot about this. The best of the entire OST in my opinion, just pathetically mistreated like the rest of the music. You seem to have listed the best of the Halo 4 OST in your OP, and i can agree with the majority of them, although, they are still inferior to the original trilogy themes.

Now, to answer your question, 343i specifically do not compose the music. Neil and Kazuma do, so the ultimate outcome of the music is really left for their imagination to work with. Rumour has it, they did establish a traditional Halo feel, but it was scrapped due to it being “too traditional”…this was largely influenced by -Yoink!- as well - they are the big heads, so they have the final say, right? I don’t think any of the artists need to be replaced, they just need a new addition who can influence the direction of the music more. The Spartan Assault composer (Tom Salta) would be a preferable choice. Maybe they realise that not many people liked the complete absence of traditional music, so the re-worked it in spartan assault? It makes sense because otherwise it’d stick closer to Halo 4, right?

I honestly would rather have the classic traditional music. I hope 343i goes with it for the next halo.

Revival is a decent soundtrack, it’s got a slight halo sound to it, but it sounds a bit to skyrimish.

Gotta agree with ya here!

Halo 4 has a better soundtrack and sounds more “Halo” than the original trilogy.

Well I actually loved the soundtrack, I just thought the music could’ve been used better throughout the campaign so I hope they keep the same composers for the next games.

I thought that Halo 4’s OST was perfect for the game.

I love the older OSTs but I like exploring new directions musically…

Well it sounds more Sci-Fi to me at least.

I try to put it in context with the Didact. It really does give you the feel that his apocalyptic wrath has descended upon the humans.

The ODST soundtrack is my favorite. However, when I think of master chief there are a few songs that come to mind. Under Cover of the Night (Halo 1), In Amber Clad (Halo 2), Released (Halo 3), Finish The Fight (Halo 3). The Delta Suite of Halo 2 was my favorite collection of tracks when it comes to atmosphere. The ODST soundtrack imo is absolutely the bar when it comes to halo music, but ODST had a different vibe. It was more of a human struggle of hopelessness and fit the whole Dante’s Inferno allegory. The ODST game is actually my favorite campaign in terms of storyline, but that’s not what I would want 343i to go for. I would want it to match the feeling of the trilogy games and songs I mentioned from them.

I honestly didn’t like a single track for Halo 4. 117 is by far the best imo, but it still doesn’t feel like halo. There are times it reminds me of Kingdom Hearts music and other times I think of Mass Effect (although not quite getting up to par with either). The rest of the Halo 4 soundtrack to me was not memorable. I didn’t enjoy Reach’s music that much though because it felt too much like I was in an Aladdin-like Desert. One song from Reach I really liked was “Uphill Both Ways Remix” aka the trailer song. It still felt like Marty because they took his percussion and added layers over it. Despite taking college level courses in Music Theory I am very bad at describing how to fix or change music. I’m not a composer and don’t understand the struggle of making something that is original and lives up to the atmosphere 343i want. I just hope there is more percussion, more natural “glitches” or ambiance, and the sound creates a feeling of tension and wonder rather than resolution.

Edit: I’ve been listening to Halo 4 music as and before I write it. The song Immateria is nice. For some reason it makes me think of Alien or Prometheus (I’m a fan of the series and I don’t think it’s really comparative to any music there). It’s just something on my mind. It feels like it would fit in a universe like Metroid better than halo.

If 343 just brings back the original theme than I’m good.
