A Better Clamber

Ever since Halo 3 Ghost jumping I wanted something along the lines of Clamber featured into a Halo Game. Clamber in Halo 5 is good though I think it has more potential.

One thing that could be to introduced is Crouch Clamber, a method to skip over ledges without loosing momentum. A regular clamber would have you come to a dead stop because your legs hit the wall whilst you are clambering over.

I would like to see a 180 degree clamber mechanic just so clamber can be incorporated more into combat movement and trick jumps.

And Clamber Jumping: think Overjump for you trick jumpers out there. Basically During the clamber animation you can press jump again and jump from what ever height you are at. And that can be away from the ledge you are climbing if you so wish.

Then the piece de resistance ‘thin edge Clamber jumping’. If you find an edge too thin to stand on for any longer than half a second, at clamber height, you can do a half clamber animation before your hands slip off. In that small window you can do a clamber jump and there you have it a featured Ghost jump mechanic for Halo 6. What do you guys think?

I’d prefer they scrap clamber entirely. Does so much wrong from losing weapon readiness to making jumps easier for those who can’t make them. My biggest issue is how it’s an absolute necessity to hit certain spots of a map.

I’m not opposed to movement mechanics becoming a bit more advanced in theory, and I think we as a community should allow 343 a bit of creative freedom in regards to mechanics, as long the Halo spirit is retained. But I do agree on the weapon readiness point. I think it should be a Halo trope, combining movement and combat. Any movement mechanic should never prevent you from fighting for any longer than a fraction of a second, not at all if possible. You should be able to shoot whilst sliding, If a ladder climbing animation was added we need to be able to interrupt it at any point to fight. I’m not the biggest fan of sprint but if you could retain some of the sprint momentum and shoot that would help.

Tbh. Clamber is a nice addition to halo 5.

No, it would be COD then.

I actually feel the same way, crouch jumping is still present and is used in conjunction with clamber to add a whole new type of jump challenge.

How about wall jumping? I’m surprised no one asked for that yet.

I wish the time clamber takes depended on how high you have to climb, so if you’re sprinting you can sort of do a little vault over the obstacle (roadblocks, anything that height really)

Keep clamber, don’t design maps around it. 90% of jumps require clamber as of right now. I don’t think its absolutely necessary to have almost every jump just tall enough to be forced to clamber.

I really think they should add more options than to just clamber. Maybe a way to kind of hurdle or jump over a short wall without losing the speed during sprint.

no i like clamber. it adds a lot more mobility and works well with other spartan abilities to make the mechanics more fluid

It doesn’t add more mobility tho, it simply lets you get away with jumps with a press of a button, it’s a safety guard for those who couldn’t croutch jump. I wouldn’t be bothered by clambor had they at least still let you retain the ability to crouch jump as well, but instead they force you to clambor 90% of the jumps which just exposes you.

it does though, because you can move over obstacles that you would otherwise struggle to get over if you didn’t jump high enough. climbing up things in H5 is easier than H3 therefore better mobility

When I think of better mobility I think of something new that couldn’t be done before. Clambor just guarantees you make a jump, it’s still a jump you could’ve made with a croutch jump tho. What would actually “add to mobility” would be wall running (which I don’t want), jetpacks letting you scale elevation wise, gravity lifts (like h3), ect ect. Clambor isn’t really adding anything to mobility, it just lets you as you said make jumps without the risk of missing it. Could just be the way I look at it, but I don’t see it adding to mobility when it still serves the same purpose as regular jumping did.

Clambering allows for new “skill jumps”, not to mention that most jumps require clamber, and that is is extremely convenient

But it really doesn’t, it just lets you grab ledges. Most of these “skill jumps” still require the use of various button combos to happen (like getting from bottom mid to top mid of fathom) They’re not possible by the sole inclusion of clambor itself. These jumps would be possible with the old regular jumps as the jump height wouldn’t be as penalized as it is in h5. When you add clambor and panalize regular jump, of course clambor is going to be “needed”.

I’m indifferent towards clamber as it is…

No! No more please! Also if you want to remain “ready” you learn to make certain jumps without having to clamber. Just please don’t bastardise the halo mechanics anymore. Please!

Oh lord no… Please never add that.

But it’s original! No mainstream FPS has it!
