Listen up everyone! The pop counter has changed to a way better number. I’ve never seen this many people on Halo 3 in the morning for a long time! I don’t know if its right but it safe to say its gotta be around there. Halo 3 has more people on than halo 4 right now so that’s all that matters.
It’s on a 24 hour counter not a current one. That means 9011 users played in the past 24 hours not on currently.

That’s lame (not you, the counter - if that’s true).
On the evening of the “free to gold” relaunch, the counter showed 2505 players all evening. Just for grins, I began matchmaking in a playlist that showed 0 population. A full list of 8 players filled out the game within 30-45 seconds.
This has to be discouraging people from playing. Why would the powers that be do that with the counter?
On the evening before the relaunch, the counter showed 5000+ players. This tells me that the 2505 number just 24 hours later was an instantaneous number from sometime earlier during an off-peak time.
If I remember right it’s been that way since reach launched.

Correct me if I’m wrong (I probably am) but I thought it just took a player count once every evening and kept that count for the whole 24 hr period? As in when the count was taken that was how many players were online?
Yea I know it resets every 24hr but I thought it was right then. But thanks for the correction
All I know is that it resets every 24hr but the counter is higher than normal wich is good.

I believe you are correct but I thought it was the unique users within the 24 hours then it rechecks again every 24 hours. Either way it was higher than normal so I’m happy.
So it checks every 24 hours at 10 AM?
How will we know the peak population?

We won’t really. I’m thinking major Nelson’s chart is as close as we get.
Speaking of Major Nelson. He better do another Xbox Live Activity report while Halo 3 is free. I’d love to see it get passed Halo 4. AC2 did.
I would be very interested to see where it lands on the chart as well.
How does 9011 people over 24 hours beat 12000 people currently in Halo 4?
Also, more piss on your bonfire, the individual playlist numbers showed 3/4 of the population in the NON DLC playlists, which suggests that these players aren’t long time ‘fans’ who intend to spend much time in an old, less flashy game.
Another interesting point, BTB is by far the most popular playlist in Halo 4, yet only a staggering 31 people where in it in Halo 3 when I checked.
Don’t get me wrong, Halo 3 is my favourite Halo game, but all the people that think Halo 3 will rise up and dominate Xbox Live are going to be disappointed.
If you read correctly I said at 10:30am! Halo 3 had 9011 and halo 4 had 5000. Of course the population of halo 4 will beat out halo 3 as the day goes on but, I was comparing them at that time wich was 10:30am.
10:30am is relevant, why?
Besides Halo 3 runs on a ‘unique players in the last 24 hours’ while Halo 4 is a ‘player right now’ number.
So Halo 3 might have had 9000 in the last 24 hours, but at any given time it could be just a couple thousand.
People are probably playing the campaign just to get good at the game. There’s so much more to do in halo 3 then just matchmaking. The majority of the players likely came from vastly different communities and have completely different conceptions of what fps are. Most will have no experience with halo. When Vegas came free I’m sure none of you jumped straight into online multiplayer. Within the next few days the population of halo 3 will doubtlessly increase exponentially. No one can turn down a free game.
Yea I completely understand, but if there were 9011 unique users in the last 24hrs when it reset. I believe that would have been Tuesday night. For some reason the game became free at that time. Anyways it’s an impressive amount for Halo 3 especially now days. The population will most likely keep progressing throughout the week since most are probably playing campaign.
I was playing yesterday at mid day (in Australia) and i was finding games so damn fast! I even managed to play with Halofollower
So good talking to everyone again, everyone in halo 4 is in party chat but in halo 3 for some reason everyone was talking and it was just amazing.
