This is honestly kind of funny. I just played 10 placement games in team arena by myself. I won 9/10 with a 13.6 KDA and i got silver 6. This really goes to show how terrible the ranking system is for Halo 5. I guess with team arena you have to have an actual team to ever play halfway decent opponents? Lol
Maybe reseting the ranks isn’t fair for lower levels who have to face high levels in placement games.

Last time in the Preseason it was seemingly awarding too high of medals and this season its going lower although we have seen some crazy stuff in our friend group. My friend got the weirdest one yet.
Friend 1. Just got the game this week.
6W-4L
0.41 K/D
26% Accuracy
His top medal is Brawler
He finished 3rd or 4th in every match.
= Gold 4 Slayer
My other friend
5W-5L (9 of these games were with above player)
.91 K/D
Finished 1st in kills on a couple of matches
His top medal is probably the 3 Killing Spree’s or Top Gun.
= Bronze 6 Slayer ?
So that one extra win created a 2 medal spread?
He finished 1st in
I think the system rates you based on your opponents as well. You may have played against a bunch of low level people.
I’m so confused on how we’re ranked now… LOL
this /\ if you own bad kids you aren’t going to be ranked in a high tier. If you are good you will eventually rise through the ranks rather quickly.
Lol yea that’s weird too^^^
Idk what’s up with it though. I mean I led i think in every game. Two of the games I had 15+ kills and didn’t even die lol. I honestly don’t really care because I don’t play team arena that much, but I just thought it was funny. In some ways it’s kinda fun to be ranked low because you get to dominate against a bunch of really bad players haha.
Being mostly a slayer and swat player. Post update I’ve seen games being much much tighter. Usually my games are decided by 5kills or less. I grinded from platinum to onxy in swat fairly easily. This season I’m having trouble cracking diamond
What playlist are you even talking about? You haven’t even placed in team arena yet and you’re a platinum in slayer.

Yeah 343 really jacked with the swat rankings this season. I checked on halotracker and there are legitimately no onyx swat players this season based on the csr population breakdown. The best people just go straight from diamond6 to champion

Must be on a secondary gamertag or something because hes only ranked in swat, slayer and free for all. Which would make more sense that he got silver.

Yeah it’s on my second account “sloppily done”…you’ll see what I mean there 9/10 wins 13.4 kda
This happened to me as well. I was originally ranked in Diamond (team arena), and I found myself going against fairly equal opponents. After the ranks were reset, I played ten very good placement matches. I was 8/10 wins, I was the MVP 9/10 games, and my K/D was above a 1.0; and the game ranked me in Platinum 1. I’m ranked Diamond, again, in all my other playlist (the ones I play anyways). I don’t understand, but whatever.
the system ranks u against whoever is online atm , so u can get really unlucky and play people who are lower skill rank, so beating them 50/0 wont mean much if ur doing that against somone in bronze or silver. I think its best to play ur 10 games asap so the player pool is higher. but yeh its kinda odd. but still if your that good and got ranked low it shouldnt be hard to carry and rank up quicky if u want 2
Ranking really don’t mean a lot when you have silvers getting matched against platinums quite often. I’m a gold 3 nd play against platinums as much as I do golds and silvers. Thankfully, I have not played against anybody higher than platinum . I have no desire to play against Onyx and Champion level players I know I will get owned.
Soooo.
You win 10 out of 10 placement matches against players ranked up to silver. Your KDA is 20. Where should you rank? Platinum? Diamond?
You win 1 out of 10 placement matches against a team of platinums, KDA is 2, you then get demolished by Diamonds and upwards. Where should you rank? Bronze? Silver?
Your skill rank is relative to what you beat and what you get beaten by.
You won’t rank high, or climb in ranks for beating low rank players several times.
In the same time, you won’t rank down or low for being beat by higher ranked players.
The system can’t place you in a certain category of skill based on a few numbers you got from a set of matches.
I do not think myself as diamond material, but I’m sure I could produce “diamond material stats” were I to play against very low skilled opponents.
Bronze players playing bronze players would have a K/D close to 1
Diamond players playing diamond players would have a K/D close to 1.
See?
All should just start on bronze 1. If you are the super MLG player you think you are, it will take no time to rank up to champ 1 and pro contract with EG.

No don’t get me wrong, I get that you get placed into the category based on who you play against. But doesn’t there need to be a point where 343 says, wow, this kid has dominated these other guys, maybe we should play him against better opponents? Cause that’s what I’m complaining about. I mean you think by at least placement match 5-6 they would’ve let me play against some platinums or diamonds. I mean it seemed almost every game I was playing against silvers and golds and not be arrogant, but I was straight up trashing on those kids. I was playing alone and don’t expect to be super competitive without a team against onyx+, but I’m fairly certain I could’ve done pretty well against platinum or diamonds alone.

Lol I never said I thought I was MLG or even close to EG quality. While I personally think what makes the best MLG players is not individual performance but rather team dynamics as well as well experience, I still do not consider myself to be of that caliber. I would make the argument though that there are probably a lot of upper level diamond and lower onyx players playing alone that could certainly be champ if they teamed up with similar players. I mean let’s face it, you could be Roy or Snipedown and I still think you would have a ridiculously hard time placing champ without a mic or a consistent team.

Well, as I said, the system itself can’t deduct how good you are against a set of players based on your overall KDA, because that’s relative, and based on many different factors.
But yes, the qualifying matches should match you against a range of players in different skill divisions in order to somewhat pinpoint a proper position, even if you are not trashing anyone. The problem when it comes to that though, is population and its current skill range vs search times. It seems i343 has sacrificed quite a lot of the skill range in order to keep the search times low.
