In the end of ‘The Impossible Life and the Possible Death of Preston J. Cole’ (one of the short stories in Halo: Evolutions), it is revealed that there is…
…an 89.7% chance that Preston Cole is still alive (according to two AIs). It is theoretically possible that he jumped into slip space just as the gas giant Viperidae exploded into a brown dwarf (an explosion killing 100s of Covenant ships). It is also believed that if he did escape, he would have lived in a remote place and started a peaceful farmer colony (reminiscent of his earlier childhood), living out his days in peace. My questions:
Do you believe he is still alive, or was it the perfect way to send him off?
If you believe he is still alive, do you think he will make a comeback in the future, or live out his days in peace and away from the UNSC? (He would be about 80).
And finally, if he were to make a comeback, could it be in Halo 5: G?
Remind me who he is again? Was he the one who created the Cole Protocol?

Yep, he was a major UNSC Naval officer, firstly against the Insurrectionists and then the Covenant. He ended up destroying over 300 Covie ships. He was an Admiral in his later years, too.

And arguably best known for retaking Harvest & creating The Cole Protocol.
Alright. But they would need to make the introduction gradual. People who didn’t read the books will have no idea what’s going on.

Step 1: This is the guy who created the Cole Protocol.
Step 2. His fleets were basically the only ones to gain victories over the Covenant in space battles in the entire war.
Step 3. Listen to me, Covenant. I am Vice Admiral Preston J. Cole commanding the human flagship, Everest. You claim to be the holy and glorious inheritors of the universe? I spit on your so-called holiness. You dare judge us unfit? After I have personally sent more than three hundred of your vainglorious ships to hell? After kicking your collective butts off Harvest - not once - but twice? From where I sit, we are the worthy inheritors. You think otherwise, you can come and try to prove me wrong.
Step 4. He blew up the entire Covenant fleet after making this speech, and his flagship disappeared in the explosion.
Step 5. He’s so badass, he survived.

Only because he outnumbered the Covenant 2 to 1 and lost 2/3 of his fleet during that battle. Too much for a victory if you ask me.
He is obviously Master Chief.

He was basically the Master Chief of space battles.
