How is it that ever since Halo 3 the grav hammer has become progressively more ridiculous in Grifball? In Halo 3 it was fair because both weapons had specific purposes: The sword was used for killing the carrier and the hammer was used for killing other players. Ever since then the grav hammer seemingly has been able to kill from longer distances and now the -Yoinking!- thing lunges the same damn distance as the sword… making the sword effectively pointless. On top of this you can move at near damn light speed with it due to slide, sprint and thruster pack. Just seems pointless having the sword. My suggestion would be to at least remove the damn lunge.
Hammer does min dmg against Grif in grifball.
i think grifball is fair because at the end of the day everyone has the same weapons
Well I’m not going to argue with how this grifball functions compared to past games, but I’m going to say that the weapons in h5 grifball are actually pretty darn balanced. The energy sword is not meant for slaying, (though if you can flank your opponent effectively you can still grab some sweet kills with it) it is meant to be a ball carrier killer. In this role it is quite effective. There is a small window of counter in a sword lunge that the ball carrier can use to melee you and survive, but that window is much much larger in a gravity hammer swing. Also, a tip if you didn’t know, zooming in with smart link increases your lunge length on the sword a lot. So you can get those lunges at a much farther distance than the hammer if you use your abilities to their fullest. As a ball carrier I’ve been able to power through many goal tenders with grav hammers while swordsmen get me 75% of the time if I wander into their range.
If the sword isn’t working out for you, you can always just use the hammer since you have both! Personally I think it’s fine, and the sword remains more effective at killing the ball carrier.
Hmm, you provide some valid points. Still, the reason for giving the hammer lunge eludes me, it just doesn’t need it.

I’m not saying the sword does nothing, the sword does exactly what it has always done. What i’m saying is now the hammer can be used for the exact same thing, since it lunges.
