The halo assault rifle was so badazz in CE and ever since has been left out or crappy. Its whole appeal to me was that it seemed like a futuristic gun. Other than its unique skin, the 60 round mag made it so. Let’s face it, the weapon was frustratingly inaccurate for realism lovers, which I am (not as in real but as in makes some sense explainable), I mean why in the future would an auto rifle be that way. But the deep clip let you pour it on and keep pouring it on for such an unusual length of time that its uzi smg like use at full auto make sense in the sandbox and made sense of why the gun was so big and beefy looking.
A 32 round mag is pretty normal for a MODERN AR w/out special mags. Against campaign elites in CE (heroic/ledgendary) you would hafta unload nearly a full 60 mag on them to burn through that shield and kill them, and all those extra rounds let you go H.A.M. on packs of grunts and jackals w/o stopping to reload till like 5 kills deep! So you could get a sense of why if you found yourself on a battlefield fighting the covies why you would want that gun vs a regular modern AR. Right?
Due to the magnum it wasn’t that great to use in multiplayer, but whatevs.
Also it deep drumroll sound was beast and later versions not so much.
Also had the biggest muzzle flash.
Why not bring back the AR as its 60 round beastly over the top futuristic self?

Apparently 32 rounds is half-confirmed for H4, which is fine since they said it will be stronger, and 60 rounds does = less fire control, more spam = less skill to use n all that. still was neat in campaign though /bi tching

you mean bursting? and personally i thought the Reach AR was the closest to CE in terms of effectiveness
60 rounds of ammo would pretty much eliminate the idea of pacing. The description of the AR being nothing but “Spray and pray”, “no-skill” weapon would be more accurate.

Besides there’s two human non sniper precision weapons and really anyone who says pacing your shots with the AR yeilds some true benefit is full of sh it and no one really does that. At distances that it would be useful to do that the AR is overmatched by BR and DMR
This would just add more meaning to the term “spray and pray”

I pace my shots all the time with the AR and win most encounters. Even sniped people with it across Hemmorhage.

ok yes its possible, just not as effective as a dmr or magnum in the same spot. i guess i just think the halo sandbox should be based on weapons that operate really differently, and wasn’t a fan of the H3-reach direction of a less capable short range weapon that has anemic mid range ability to make up for it

They can accomplish all the good things you’re talking about by upping the damage the AR does and keeping it’s clip size at 32. Not to mention that a smaller clip size promotes more fire control and in turn, skill.
I love you. I’m fine either way; if the AR has a 32-bullet mag, a fast kill time when burst-fired, or if the AR has a 60-bullet mag, more bullets to kill, and a faster fire rate.

Yeah I would much prefer this but for multi player, I expect it will throw balancing off.
