The 5sk Br doesn’t fit the story because in Halo 3 the BR was a 4sk and Halo 4 takes place years after H3. Ussualy technoldgy moves forward. The Spartan IIs (H3 multiplayer) have stornger armor than the Spartan IVs. So it makes no sense that the BR has become less powerful. Thoughts?
Actually the Gen 2 armor probably has better shielding so there. Same deal with the Magnum which is now a 6 shot as opposed to 5.
Edit: This variant also seems to gave a shorter barrel which will affect range, damage, etc.
Gameplay balance is not canonical.
I don’t think a weapons power is defined with canon and it’s silly for you to argue that. If you want a 4sk BR fine, but come up with good gameplay arguments.
Depending on the size of the cannon, I’m pretty sure it could fit. Yeah it does seem like a step back in tech.
> Actually the Gen 2 armor probably has better shielding so there. Same deal with the Magnum which is now a 6 shot as opposed to 5.
But there is more spartan IVs so to make spartans less expensive to make the armor isnt as good as spartan II armor set which costed the same amount as a starship

If gameplay followed canon, it would not be a good game.
Stop.
Seriously, these threads are worse than the ‘we hate (Name AA)’ Threads.
4sk BR would QUICKLY un-balance the game. If anything they’d need to increase the BR’s Rate of fire. (or maybe decrease the DMR, if I remember right it’s only faster by a small fraction.)
If gameplay followed canon, the Spartans would be putting each other through walls, plasma weapons would kill in just a few hits and you wouldn’t respawn.
Canonically MJOLNIR shielding should improve as well.
Hmmm why are you talking about the BR not fitting in a cannon? I’m pretty sure you could put a BR in the muzzle of a cannon without problem.
It depends on how big your cannon is…
OT: Meh, it doesn’t really matter. Once you think about, the DMR shouldn’t be in Halo 4 because no branches of the UNSC use it anymore. And other stuff doesn’t fit canon. So yeah. It’s multiplayer, it doesn’t have to fit canon.
This is just… I don’t even know how to respond.

This is my turf. spreads legs and puts hand on gun holder
> The Spartan IIs (H3 multiplayer) have <mark>stronger armor</mark> than the Spartan IVs.
That’s the reason right there. The BR isn’t less powerful, but their armor is stronger, so it takes an extra shot to kill Spartan IVs. Now it fits the canon.

Doesn’t mean the shielding won’t be improved. And like I said, barrel length will affect range, damage, etc.
As for going backwards in tech, the US military’s standard ammuntion used to be .308 (7.62) and .45 ACP. Now they use .223 (5.56) and 9mm, both of which are much less powerful rounds. There are trade offs of course but it’s not an unheard of thing.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!
Someone really needs to explain how this makes sense…
Tell me, how many shots in the head with the 5.56 to kill someone with out armor?
How many shots in the head with the 7.65 to kill someone with out armor?
In real life: ONE!
Canon has NOTHING to do with Balance, and vis versa. Just because the BR in Halo 2 and/or 3 was more powerful than Halo 4, doesn’t mean it isn’t canon. It means the game developers balanced things differently.
In reality, the bullet used with the BR from Halo 2’s time frame will kill it’s target with the same amount of time and shots in Halo 3 and 4.
Despite my very firm stance for wanting a 4SK BR, I can think of a canonical reason as to why it ia.
The weapon didn’t get weaker, the Spartan IV’s are just using stronger shields. The reason the DMR is stronger is because it uses a larger cartridge than the BR now.
…Or I am making this all up, and 343 already fixed the BR.

The way weapons act in the game in no way reflects their function in the fiction. In the fiction, plasma bolts will melt through UNSC armor, and they are much more effective than how they function in the game. In the fiction, a couple rounds is enough to kill a grunt.
The weapons in the game have to be balanced for the sake of gameplay, but, again, this does not represent how they function in the fiction.
> Gameplay balance is not canonical.
This.
