I would say many special things which makes halo awesome and keeps the skill level progression happening at a high levels are:
Jumps which need skill like guardians gold1 > gold2, s1 > s2, juggling flag to get to green, narrows cannon jump > top mid.
Ensuring we have many competitive, fast paced symmetrical maps which will make esports huge which’s what the pros play. (heritic, onslought, pit, narrows) I would get some pro players to chime in and give tips on designing competitive maps.
The ability to party up with people helped to build the community & team fun.

What would be awesome:
MLG tournaments & gamebattles like tournaments integrated in matchmaking with special emblems / calling cards when won & maybe sponsors may get their names in game with promotions like Monster Halo Infinite Tournament, this special promotions happening.
Halo top 10 videos always interested people, maybe creating a halo show with entertaining updates people are amazed with with clips and funny things.
algorithm to find boosters and derankers and nullify the effect they have on team balance Eg.
(booster level 10) boosters team mate level 45 > vs 47 47
the 47’s have a equal chance to get the higher rank team mates.
many times its like
(boosters) & level 48 49
(47’s) & level 42 45
make good MMR (perfect win record new account people) face people a few ranks up maybe
