Just wondering if anybody at 343i can give me a valid reason why it’s taking 5 years between Halo 5 and Halo 6 (Infinite…whatever). Too busy fixing the debacle that was MCC? “Hey look what we didn’t make for the most part and still screwed up! Here’s a free month of XBL! Thanks for the $50!”
How can you expect to maintain a fanbase without releasing a new game every 2 years? Very poor business model.
They built the Slipspace engine, a brand new engine, and that’s not some easy little thing. Also, they’re working to make the game the best it can be. So, yeah I’m happy they’re taking as much time as possible.
They’ve been working on it on and off when possible to try and clean it up for a while now. With all the problems that MCC had, it’s not going to be fixed in one hotfix. But between trying to please the Halo Wars 2 fans who claim things are never balanced, working on Reach, making a whole new engine for Halo: Infinite, and attempting (and I guess putting it aside) to update Halo 5 from time to time, they just have had their plate full.
Everything but Halo 5 should not matter. The slipspace engine is going to run on 10yo Xbox one technology. No excuse 343i!

you really know nothing about game design do you? Building an engine is expensive and time-consuming, especially when the engine is built with the new console in mind. Sure, the game may run on the OG xbox but if you think its going to run well on it your nuts.
At this point, anything but halo 5 matters. Halo 5 has been stable enough and with the expansion to PC, they have to shift their focus to redesigning the MCC, and porting halo reach - 4 (not that easy). Plus you have a majority of the team working on infinite. 5 years given the decent 2 years of halo 5 additions, engine creation and MCC expansion/porting is pretty reasonable.
Side note, this could also just be a troll post and it seems like it but whatever
Well there’s a few reasons we know of but first of all, the mainline Halo’s have always come out at 3 year intervals so that 2 year remark doesn’t make sense.
One reason Infinite is taking so much longer than usual is they’re building a brand new engine. Every Halo all the way from CE to H5 used the same, but modified engine. It’s extremely outdated and from the sounds of it, was affecting development quite negatively so 343i heads had promised the team for H5 that they’d let them build a new one but things happened and that promise couldn’t be kept. Now for Infinite though, Xbox has new leadership and 343i was given the time and resources to make good on their promise of a new engine. Apparently they started working on it all the way shortly after H5 launched so it’s kind of a big deal and not something you want to rush.
Speaking of rushing, Phil Spencer is the main reason it’s taking so long, in a good way. I’m sure if a certain someone were still head of xbox we would’ve had a H6 a couple years ago and it would’ve gotten the same reception as H5 probably. Now 343i has actually been given the time to make what they want to make, it’s the first game for them that’s not being rushed to the extent of MCC/4/5, so be grateful for that.
Third reason is it’s not coming to just one platform like usual. This time they’re making it for three separate platforms, XB1/Scarlett/PC. Obviously that’s gonna add some development time than if they were just making it for one platform.
MCC is probably affecting it a little bit. I believe they just have a small team that works on MCC but still, if they weren’t, that team could be working on Infinite as well. Not that I don’t want them to work on MCC. I think it’s awesome that Phil let them go back and fix it on xbox and bring it to PC. Gives the community something to play besides H5 and boosts their reputation.
Those are just the reasons I can think of, who knows what else is going on.
You complain too much my guy. Its not call of duty. Games take time to make and its one studio instead of 3 or 4 pumping out games in the same franchise for yearly/biyearly releases. Dont armchair develop.

I agree with everything about this post. My main reasons for the 5 year wait are:
-
Working on fixing MCC and bringing Halo to PC not only boosts their reputation but widens the potential audience for Halo Infinite.
-
Rebuilding the engine is more work up-front, but will be beneficial for future titles. Also, the new engine is supposedly much more powerful and efficient. This will result in more effective use of storage and better graphics.
-
Microsoft does not want to rush Halo Infinite and make the same mistakes (ie. no playlists at launch, gltiches, etc.) as previous titles. Halo Infinite is the launch title for Project Scarlet. If it goes well, it will set Microsoft up for a successful console generation. If it fails, it will set Microsoft up for a poor console generation. Infinite is extremely important for Xbox’s success, especially after a generation thoroughly dominated by PS4.
This generation was really a ‘slow’ one for Halo games. A lot depends on Halo: Infinite. Look what happened when they released Halo 5 ‘as is’ instead of finishing writing the story for it. Let them take their time, delay it if they have to. Releasing games on a promised date pleases stakeholders, not customers.

Ok boomer
I like the current mantra at 343: When it’s ready, it’s ready. Let them take their time and get it right. They’re making Infinite, a new game engine, converting all of the MCC to PC, producing a TV show, releasing books and other media, and probably many other projects we know nothing about. I think we can cut them some slack and give them some room to operate.
living through the MCC release, and many other AAA titles that release very poorly. i would much rather wait and extra few years if i know the game will be released and fully functional with little to no problems. I think 343 learned that lesson a very hard way. this is the problem with the gaming community, we want the game now. games not done, so what we want it now!!! then cry and cry because the games not completed yet
I would much rather a complete game every 5 years than a -Yoink- one every 2. Just my opinion

Hardly a troll post.
If I don’t know game design, then you don’t know business. The Halo: Infinite team and the Slipspace team should have separate team members. Those on both teams should be limited to management and supervisors.
How can this engine be built with the new console in mind when we don’t even know the specs of the new console yet?
2-3 years between releases is what is needed in today’s FPS market since CoD keeps pumping out a new title every year. 343i cannot expect to keep a fanbase and remain relevant if we are to wait 5 years between releases.

Thanks for adding to the conversation. I’m old, but I’m not that old.

I mean, its not like we want another Halo 4 or 5.
Here are the reasons why it is taking 6 years.
-
Built a new engine to make the game look good. We don’t want 2012 graphics. We want shiny versions of 2001 graphics. Less angles more smooth looks.
-
Taking time to make a story a majority of the fan base will enjoy. We know 343 Industries cannot please their whole fanbase. But is there really a company that actually can do that? I don’t think so.
-
They are making 3 versions of one game. One for Xbox One. One for Xbox Scarlett. And one for PC (a version for Steam and Windows Store as well.)
-
If you are so smart. Can you tell them what kind of business model they should have? I am sure your college degree must be far more advanced than theirs.
-
The new console dev kits were just shipped recently. So, they have not been able to properly test the game internally yet.
-
6 years is really not that long. How long have we waited for Half-Life 3? Or how long was H1Z1 been in development before finally releasing? Or how long has Kingdom Hearts 3 been in development before it released?
Please be patient and hold on to your pants a little longer. Unless you work for 343 Industries, you have 0 clue what happens behind the scenes and what bumps and hurdles they may hit along the way.

This has got to be a troll post. There is no way anybody is that impatient. They need to just accept a good game instead of a rush game to “keep up with the fan base”.
Personally, I don’t care how long it’s taking. They are clearly making a game and trying to make it good.
How can you expect to maintain a fanbase without even the slightest bit of quality control? 343 Industries have demonstrated time and time again that they can’t release a quality product at launch in only two years. Don’t like the launch state of Halo: The Master Chief Collection? Don’t expect games to be churned out for a quick buck. And by the way, Halo’s more relevant now than it’s been in a while.

Haha good gag!
