As a SR-47, I have less than 50 kills with the Assault Rifle. 95% of those kills I attribute to my friend using my account. Otherwise, I refuse to use the Assault Rifle. And before you go off stat flaming, I’d rather have worse stats and not use the Assault Rifle than have good stats and use it. Here are my 5 reasons why I don’t use it and will not use it:

It’s never been in my repertoire, Halo CE (Pistol), Halo 2 (BR), Halo 3 (BR), Halo Reach (DMR), Halo 4 (BR). I simply didn’t use it as a primary or secondary, it was the first weapon I swapped out for something else on the map.

It’s a brain dead, low skill weapon. I don’t need to explain this to you, but it’s the easiest to use weapon out of all the automatic weapons. SMG you need spacing to be effective. Storm Rifle you need to pace your shooting to not overheat. Suppressor you need to “pre” fire your weapon to be effective. Boltshot you need to track your target.

There are better close range, automatic weapons out there. The SMG shreds the AR up close and the Storm Rifle wrecks the AR at each effective distance. Haven’t tried the suppressor against the AR though.

How can anyone choose the glorious pistol over the scrubby AR at the start of the match? Pistol is far more versatile than the AR and even in close range, a good Pistol user will always beat a good AR user.

The aesthetic is weak. It looks goofy and bulky. The noise it make just sounds…meh. Minor gripe, but I like how the SMG looks and sounds the most of all automatic weapons.
Yes, I am completely aware I am stubborn for not using the AR, but it’s just something I have to live with.

Ok, someone didnt use the Reach AR
I use the AR in close range against a lot of precision users.
Slide, duck, thruster, jump. All while alternating between spraying and bursting. Heads shots do more damage then body shots.
I like seeing them panic most of the time.

It’s the only one with a pizza skin, tho.

I don’t rage. It’s not hard to wreck someone with a brain dead weapon, that’s why it’s a brain dead weapon.
Umm its called strategy. Its not a noob weapon. Its a situational weapon. You will beat someone 90% of the time in close range if you are using an AR and they are using a BR unless they perfect you.
How did you play Reach and never use the AR?

Obviously OP literally just wants to be the start of discussion. I could very well make a thread like this about any gun (IE: “The sniper rifle is a low skill weapon, one shot kills players, hitscan, etc.”) No real point to the topic.
Well after you hit req 3 if you play warzone swap your pistol for a BR and keep the AR it’s always good to have a auto weapon with a precision weapon also bump it up to a higher req AR like kinetic or long shot I hardly use it either but doing this has saved my -Yoink- more than once
OP hates the AR and feels the need to come discuss it with us. Normally I agree about full auto weapons being low skill but the AR in halo 5 is pretty well balanced. Not sure how you consider the SMG any different than the AR as they are both hold down trigger and watch the enemy get blasted by a storm of lead until they die.

It’s actually one of the loadout guns that takes the most skill to use properly. Knowing when to burst fire, aim for the head, full spray, and reload all take time and experience. The pistol is simple comparatively. Just need 4 to anywhere and 1 to the head.
Given that AR headshots now do more damage than body shots, thus allowing me to get an AR reversal on some kid who started shooting me in the back, I’d say it does require skill to be used to max effectiveness. Add on evasive manuevers, and a skilled AR user can beat out a pistol or BR.
But hey, to each their own. Long as you don’t go around spewing that people who DO use the AR are less than you.
