5 Post Daily Limit

Am i the only one who feels as if the daily post limit is too low? Like i could made a thread somewhere in the forums and only be able to reply to it 4-5 times, and because of this, if the post could go on for some while, i may not be able to reply and state information that would either do x,y,or z. Why is there even a post limit in the first place, that extends through 24 hours?

I understand it’s to stop the trolling and the spamming, but for those who look through the forums to reply in a appropriate manner when having general discussions shouldn’t be subject to a 5 post daily limit. I can make 5 posts on different threads within less than an hour, and then only be able to observe for the next 23 hours. Does the same go for the monitors of the forums? Just a side note.

It’s just my opinion, we should be able to post much more than five times a day, seeing as how big the forums can be some days. (only four more after this :D)

We had a big spam epidemic months ago, and in fact at worst the situation was such that all posting capabilities had to be taken away from new accounts, and for a while it was limited to two posts per day. Since then it has been lowered to 5 posts per day.

The 5 post limit only applies for ranks below Recruit - Silver, if my memory serves. So if you’re hitting the limit every day, you’ll get rid of it in under a week. That is a small price to pay for mitigating sudden spam attacks, especially as it doesn’t take long until you’re at the point where the limits are high enough that you won’t even notice their existence. I don’t know if the information on the Ranks page is up to date, but according to it, already at Marine ranks the limit is 200 posts per day, and that only requires 100 posts to reach.

As for Monitors, it’s an interesting question whether we have any limits. The Ranks page claims 1,000 posts per day, but again, I wonder if there are any actual limits in place for these accounts as it claims the same for Administrators, and it would seem weird to have any limits on these. Not that this is testable, because I find it physically impossible to make 1,000 posts a day, as far as I’m concerned, even if it was all spam.

Please keep in mind the system is designed to prevent people from simply creating an account and spamming away. Just get your rank up a bit and you should be past the post limit in no time.

Well I wish I could make at least 100 productive posts a day. It would make ranking up quicker. I only started Waypointing with the company update. I wish I would have started sooner. And I already have my spartan quote picked out. But god knows when I’ll Reach that rank. And I get a good 20 a day.

This is kind of stupid for people like me who have been a member of halo waypoint since the start just because I don’t post often I have a 5 daily limit?

Look at my oldest post, look at my halo gamerscore. I don’t have a new account, why should I be penalized as if I’m a spammer?

There should be other criteria if hit such as age of account and halo gamerscore that nullifies the daily limit.

Personally I’d focus on making the most of the posts I had rather than reviving a thread from two years ago to complain about things not being fair. If you focus on making good posts that contribute to the community you probably won’t even notice the post limits till you’ve ranked enough for them to be negligible.

No, what I’m saying is the purpose this limit was made was due to spammers and a problem halowaypoint had with them, what I’m saying is for vets who don’t post this should not apply to them.

It’s easy to say make the most of what you got, but you can’t expect this to make people want to come back and be active members on these forms when we are being penalized by the system for no reason. Especially individuals who are Vets, I was a member on bungies forms from halo 2 days, this is nonsense.

The time required to verify who is a vet and who is not is very likely going to be time not worth spending on something like this. Bot technology and spammers have come a long way since the Bungie days of Halo 2. I understand it can be annoying for newer accounts, but it’s a necessary evil. Besides, it doesn’t take long to break out of the limits and have them increase.

I made my first post here back in 2012; I didn’t start regularly posting here until a couple of years ago when the no spam rules were already in effect. My current post count is 9615. I’d like to think (though you can never be sure) that I’ve made the most of my time here and worked to make this place better. I did my time on B.net (on this account and others.) Is it unfortunate that people who are trying to make the most of their time and posts are held to the same standards as the bots and kids trolling? Kind of.

Since the accounts used here are microsoft accounts ‘age’ isn’t really a good method of determining how many posts you should have and that isn’t fair to the kid who did just create his account, but loves this series and is willing to work to be a solid member of the community. The only ‘fair’ way to do it is to have everyone be at the same level, if you work at it, and contribute then you get the ability to contribute more.

Plus, I’ve had more accounts than I can remember over the years. I had various reasons for creating them some good, some bad. How could the system judge that I’d played Halo since 2001?

Either way keep an eye on the last post date in the future (necros are bad) and if you want to respond to someone you can quote (little blue quote button under their post) them and they’ll get a notification.

Time required? Just like they set criteria for ranks and posting limited for them they can use both time associated with the forms and gamerscore as I said earlier. Once criteria are set in the forms its automatic. (Also, I am not a new account, if you read my original post here I’ve been posting since 2012, on halo waypoint.)

Why would this be so effective? Because people can’t make a whole bunch of new accounts and spam right now. Odds are people won’t make a whole bunch of accounts now so they can spam 5 years from now, people loose interest. Also using gamerscore with an age requirement (a year maybe) as well that are associated with the account is also another way to lift this limit, since spammers won’t go out and buy/ play a bunch of games just to spam on a site. Make the gamerscore range something high like 10k. I have almost double that so its doable for halo fans.

Saying its “fair” to paint all low ranks the same actually isn’t fair because these new rules set in place a year and 2 months ago are to combat one thing, spam.
I understand that spam is a real threat and makes these forms less user-friendly but the way halowaypoint is penalizing everyone for this reason also makes it less user-friendly. Making spam a permanently bannable offense with a 3 strike rule will also stop re-assuring spammers. (this might be a thing already)

I will keep an eye on last post date in the future, instead, I’ll make a new thread.

Just a suggestion but maybe don’t waste one of your posts on multiposting when you can quote multiple people at once or edit your prior posts…Also because it’s against the rules.

Sorry, I don’t know how. And in comedyshermits previous post, he told me to quote people so they get notified.
