I’m just wondering if anyone has played H5G on both a 1080 & 4K display? If so, was there any noticeable difference? I know 4K has twice as many pixels so by default, it should look a little better. But I would like to hear from someone who has actual experience.
(Trying to convince the wife it’s necessary for us to purchase the 55 inch 4K LG OLED, that panel looks amazing!!!).
Thank you.
not sure if xbox one supports 4k, but get the tv anyway. its 4k.
At best it will upscale from 1080p, which won’t really look any better. But get the TV
Get the TV because i’m sure HALO 6 will support 4k
Have any of you guys seem this OLED? It blows traditional LED TV’s right out of the water.
No light source, only uses crystals with an electric current to give you a picture, and each individual pixel can turn on and off to give unprecented contrast ratios.
4k isn’t really supported by gaming consoles or cable/Netflix. If you have the money or you want to future-proof yourself, I recommend you get the 4k tv. If you’re looking to upgrade your TV somewhere in 5 years, I’d stick to a 1080p TV.
No, it wouldn’t look better. In fact, it would probably look either the same or worse. Xbox One doesn’t have a strong GPU, outputting at 1080p is already hard enough. So, with Halo 5, you will be outputting at 1080p ( or less because of the variable resolution), on a 4K display. It is just a waste of money just for video games. But, if you are normal, you are going to use it for more than just video games. So get it if you want, but if you are getting it for video games, it is a waste of money.

I hear that Netflix is supporting 4K now. The consoles definitely do not support it … yet. We can all dream.

That depends on what console/platform Halo 6 will be released on. If it’s still going to be released on Xbox One, then no. Just no. However, if Microsoft doesn’t want to release another outdated plastic box, they better put in some beefy specifications. I’m talking at least 12GB of memory, because both consoles use an integrated memory system, and the 8GB of the current generation is barely enough to power 1080p@60FPS. The consoles divide that 8GB into something like: 4GB for system memory, 2GB for graphics computing, and 2GB for CPU processing. That is not enough for 4K.
Does the LG OLED auto upconvert? Not all 4K TVs upconvert. Buyer beware. Look to see if it up converts if so then yeah spend that 4000$!
PS Just looked it up. It has a built in upscaler, and Best Buy has it for around 2grand at about half off right now.

Again, depends on what you are using the console for. If you are just watching television, it could output at 4K. But if you are going to play games, then no, the Xbox One will never be able to run games at 4K.

Wait until it is supported. By then 4K will be even cheaper and the technology for picture quality and display even better. Right now I feel like 4K is what BlueRay was 10 or so years ago. Its newer better tech, but the tech to support that tech is still few and far between because it hasnt caught up yet (if that makes sense?)

^ thank you. Somebody give this guy a job over in Microsoft’s development office please

Some 4K TVs have built in upscalers that help getting into the new display tech. On those TVs you will notice a better picture. I bought a Sony this past fall and love it. Everything looks better, Direct TV, blue ray movies, xbox one and streaming.
Very True. However, the upscaler will also send your input lag through the roof, thus making it not very good for gaming.

This is the biggest concern. Also, a lot of OLEDs have a problem with burn in like plasma TVs did.

No it shouldn’t. The game isn’t even rendered in 1080p, it uses dynamic resolution scaling to keep the frame rate locked at 60fps. Having a 4k TV won’t do a thing for Halo.
However, it’s still worth buying a 4k TV as you’ll be able to watch 4k movies. And there is a huge step up in quality. But don’t buy a small one, else it’ll be hard to notice the difference. A 55 isn’t worth it imo, although those OLED screens look beautiful, I’d still go for a 65+ inch.

But nevertheless, it would not look better than the actual device outputting in 4K.
a better question to ask is how long will this gen of consoles last. the 360 was 7 or 8 years. Which by historical standards was about 2 to 3 years too long. We are no closing in on 3 years for this console. I’m thinking this gen will last 6. Highly doubt 7.

I’ve read the same thing. Something like 45 minutes of a static image and the crystals will start to burn in that image.
Can someone explain the input lag thing? Is that the time it takes for the processor to scrub the 1080 image and upscale it to approximelty 4k quality?
