I just bought an Xbox one and Halo 5 guardians came with it. Now before I can play the game I have to do some sort of random update before i can use it, this game is in disc form as well. So far it has been 18 1/2 hours and the progress is now at 51%. I am very annoyed, is this normal?
Afraid so OP - the base game on disc is about 40gb and there have been multiple updates since then. Just need to let it run its course until it’s done
Yes, the second large download since I bought the game last week (or so)? I had to take my Console to a relatives house to do this much GB’s as our limit is only 15 GB per month. It still took over six hours to do?? This is painful. What is in this thing anyway? Why have they not come out with game disks that include all these by now?
I hope the monitor does not complain about this post???

After your topic yesterday where I explained in detail about reviving old topics… please don’t.
To answer your question - The base game ison the disc and there was a 9gig day 1 update users were to required to get. Since the games release there have been numerous DLC updates that are also required, as they not only have introduced new features and maps but various bug fixes as well. As DLC releases have been on-going for the past year and with more updates set to come, the expense of printing and releasing new discs to stores isn’t worth it. Especially if there are still unused copies in circulation.
If you have kept upt to date with DLC updates as they are released then you should only have to download the next update as it gets pushed out. The Xbox One update system is a little better than the 360 as you only need to download anything released after your last update and not multiple packs like you did on the 360 - so for example if you missed the last DLC drop, when you next go to update the game you’ll only need to download that small amount of data and not the full thing. If you buy Halo 5 digitally, it will already be up to date with the latest DLC release. Current size as of posting is 91GB.
