Okay, so I know when you read the title you were like “Whaaat? Why is this in the Halo 4 forum, or any Halo forum for that matter?” But just here me out. It has been confirmed that ME3 will have a 40 hour long campaign. WOW! Now that, that is big. But anyways, I just brought all of this up, because I’m hoping 343 sees this and might take it into consideration that they should follow this idea. Now I know that by now, 343 is done with the campaign and just putting the last minute tweaks on it, but maybe we could see this for future games?
In the video, the guy talking even mentions how the Halo series are one of those games with a story that the fans really get into, and he’s absolutely correct. But can you imagine a future Halo game with a campaign that massive? Thoughts?
The reason that the campaign is that long is because it’s an RPG and they always have really long campaigns and with Halo there’s multiplayer, customs, forge, theater and firefight along with campaign so they can’t put nearly as much time into the development of the campaign as Bioware can with ME3.
Well, Mass Effect is an RPG, Halo is a shooter. I’d rather no more than 15 hours. Anymore than that, to my experience, gets really repetitive without heavy RPG elements.
Come on, don’t go there. I’m not wanting to start some flame war.
I’m not saying one is better than the other. Yes, I agree, quality is better than quantity. But if 343 does well on Halo 4, maybe they could pull through succeeding both quality and quantity.

I’m not saying one is better than other, but if 343i can do both that will be great. Mass Effect is one of my favorite games too.
True, but just by watching the Mass Effect demo, I can tell they put a lot of effort into the campaign. It will be more about how repetitive the gameplay in the campaign gets, but I think they pulled off both quality and quantity.
To be fair, Mass Effect added multiplayer, and it is actually pretty good.
And to OP. Although Mass Effect has shooter element(More precisely, THIRD PERSON shooter), it also has plenty of RPG elements. RPG tends to have longer playtime due to fact that it has more side quests and less linearity.
Mass Effect is hybrid of TPS and RPG. Bioware specifically mentioned this part.
On the other hand, Halo is a pure FPS.
Halo being linear isn’t all that worth criticizing. In fact, it should still keep that element. But on the other hand, Halo is knonwn for diverse happening on each campaign walkthrough due to its A.I. You don’t get the exact same experience on each take on unlike Modern Warfare series scripited campaign.
Look at all the pure shooter games. You don’t see their playtime over 20 hours. In fact, it could kill campaign for being too long.
Let me put it simple. Mass Effect can have that long playtime because half of it is RPG. Halo is a pure shooter game, so there is limit to playtime on campaign.
> Anything longer than 15 hours is pushing it for a Halo game.
I don’t see why people think like this. If it’s a solid game, a 20 hour campaign would be fantastic. I’ve always disliked how short the Halo campaigns have been, even when playing the first playthrough on Legendary.

> Lol couldn’t tell since you didn’t specify. Could have been in general as well…
Yeah that was my mistake I was supposed to explain it on my first comment. :’(

I frankly don’t want a longass shooter. It will get boring. Extend the stories length by all means, but don’t make it overstay it’s welcome.

While the Reach Campaign wasn’t the best story-wise, the variety of concepts that were used almost eliminated redundancy.

Yeah, you have a space portion, sniper section, and so on. It works really well.
