$40-$50 for the new HCS reqs. What will you spend?

These were released on the Marketplace on 29th June, (they don’t appear in-game or on Waypoint so check the Marketplace).

They cost $10 per pack, (or £7.99 in the UK which is equivalent to more than $10).

These packs are $ only (not 80,000 req points), so it’s going to cost you a lot of money if you want to obtain everything. I think it would have been nice to have had a req price alternative but I realise they’re designed to support the teams.

My calculations suggest it’s going to cost you $40+ to get everything if you previously bought the Halo Championship Series premium REQ pack in December, or $50+ if you didn’t (details below).

I’ve said $40**+** and $50**+** because it could potentially cost you a lot more if you don’t already have everything else unlocked (see final paragraph).

Anyway, lets see what you can get: (Source)

The HCS Champion Helmet and Armor are also now available once again, as well as the white HCS AR, Magnum, and emblem. These were previously available in December 2015 via the Halo Championship Series premium REQ pack which cost $10 or 80,000 REQ points. (Don’t confuse this with the free Halo World Championship REQ Pack that was released in March).

Calculations:

Now, assuming you have all previously released rare or better visual customisations in the current req pool, you should be guaranteed 2 of the new visual customisations per pack. Subsequent purchases of the same team pack should guarantee 5 of the new visual customisations, (as you already have the 3 team-specific items).

If you have the previously released HCS reqs from December 2015, you’ll only need the 7 new Visual Customisations. To obtain all of those you will need to buy 4 of the new packs (2 per pack the first time you purchase a team pack and 5 per pack after that) for $40. You’ll have 6 of the visual customisations unlocked after 3 packs meaning you’ll have to buy one of the team packs a second time, paying $10 for the 7th and final weapon skin in the 4th pack.

If you didn’t buy the previously released HCS reqs, you’ll need 12 new Visual Customisations. To obtain all of those you will need to buy 5 of the new packs (2 per pack the first time you purchase a team pack and 5 per pack after that) for $50. You’ll have 11 of the visual customisations unlocked after 4 packs meaning you’ll be paying $10 for the 12th and final weapon skin/emblem in the 5th pack. You could spread your money between the teams or support your favourite team more by buying multiples of their pack as each team gets a percentage of their pack sales.

Edit: Some people are reporting that the HCS Emblem is not appearing in these packs. If you have all the weapon skins from the first 4 packs I don’t recommend spending $10 on a fifth pack just to try and get the emblem as it sounds like it might be glitched.

Important: If you still currently need other non-HCS visual customisations you might be very unlucky and get those instead as it only says there’s a high chance of getting the new ones meaning it could potentially cost you a lot more more than $50 to get everything you need. The pack descriptions say “plus 2 rare or better visual customizations”. Considering the 12 HCS items above are all Legendary rarity this means you could end up unlocking rare non-HCS items instead if you still need them which would be very disappointing. That said, I’m not certain on this point and would welcome clarification form a 343i employee if they’re reading this.

Anyway, how much are you planning on spending on the new packs and what are you most looking forward to unlocking?

Jesus, not one penny of my money is going towards this

Nor mine, £7.99 GBP is a little steep for me, but I’m guessing there are completionists out there who have to have everything unlocked.

If there are, it’s gonna cost them.

I don’t understand why people would Even buy These things unless they are really into this whole esports thing… I’m Fine with my noble Team skins (reach fanboy) and the bloodthirst one for the BR

I think some people really are into esports and I guess if they get a lot of enjoyment out of it they might be happy to spend $10 on their favourite team’s pack to give them a bit of financial backing.

I wonder what % the teams actually get from the sale of each pack.

Nothing, nada, zilch. I don’t pay money for reqs, I don’t care about HCS/MLG or any of that.

Thanks for these informations. It will certainly just put the pack related to the final of the world championship but 80 000 REQ Points or $10. I am among those who downloads them problems related to this plan or do not have them time to download but having seen the final.

I might like knowing that I have everything, but I won’t spend money just to have everything in the end. It defeats the purpose behind it.

I will spend 0$ because I couldn’t give a ****. Seriously, I dont understand the appeal of these things. The normal reqs were fine I bought about 30$ worth but that was mostly just to support 343. I guess its fine though I’m just not going to buy any.

Yeah, I bought the Warzone Premium req pack bundle (via the Limited Edition game) because I thought there would be some exclusive content, but I now realise I could have gotten everything that it unlocks through normal gold req packs anyway so I was pretty disappointed with that purchase.

At least with these I guess you’re getting something exclusive though.

I am not a compilationist when it comes to cosmetics and I don’t follow the hcs close enough to be a fan of it so probably nothing. If I see nothing wrong with them if people choose to buy them. Why do so many get irate over stuff that is offered for sale that changes nothing in game except some cosmetics? Do you get so upset when you see some on buying a brand of soda you don’t like? If so you need to chill out.

Nothing, I don’t care this stuff

+1 from me, I completely agree.

I’m happy for them to do things like this as it doesn’t bother me at all.

However, I know some people have often posted about missing out on the December HCS pack and asking if they’d ever get the chance to obtain the Athlon Champion armor so I know a lot of people out there like to complete their collections.

Well none if it looks better than the gold standard skins or my technician armor so I am not concerned with getting any of them.

I don’t think you can get these for 80,000 req points.

I think they will be $ only.

Even if it is only $ 10, I’ll take it as it does miss it.

I’ll probably by all the team skins eventually, starting with Evil Geniuses.

i had never been into Esports until halo5. Tuned in once and have been hooked ever since. I want to support that scene so that it can continue.

I have never watched it.

I think I probably should try to watch it at least once to give it a chance though as I might enjoy it.

I’ve seen clips and I really like the commentators as they make it sound like you’re watching a sports match or something and it gives it an exciting vibe.

My problem is I never know when it’s going to be on though, and living in the UK means I’m probably asleep when it airs.

I’ll help you out, since 343i is pretty bad pointing people in the right direction.

All of the scheduling information is found at halo.gg

the only officially aired UK matches are every Thursday at 2PM EST which I think it 7PM for you. They also play on Fridays, but you’ll have to watch an unofficial steam. OnsetHalo usually broadcasts those matches. The OnsetHalo streams are cool, because he usually gets players from the NA to help commentate.

The NA teams also play every Thursday and Friday starting at 7pm EST. which I think is midnight for you. You can catch those streams on the official Halo twitch channel.

if you can’t stay up don’t worry. You can catch all previous matches just by following Halo and Onset Halo on twitch, and looking at their past broadcasts.

you can also set you twitch account to send you notifications when these broadcasts start.

Thanks very much, that’s a big help
